Can he marry me against his mother’s will?
His mother doesn't approve of me. Can we marry despite this?
Assalamu alaikum. I am a 26 year old female with a five year old child. I was married In 2007 and got divorced in 2013.
After my divorce my parents approached a relative of mine who is 2 years younger than me and unmarried to know if he is interested in marrying me. He gave a positive reply and told my parents that he is interested.
Getting his positive reply my parents talked to his parents. But his mother is not interested in him marrying me as I already have a child. She has reasons like what will people think because I am elder to him. She is not accepting me.
I am heartbroken as I already started dreaming of starting a new life . I had hope because he gave my father a promise that he would marry me. And now since his mom is not agreeing he is very worried and is not speaking at all. Please advice on this matter.
Can he marry me against his mother's will. How can we get her to accept this in a happy manner since we do not want to displease her. Pls advice

walaikum assalaam,
explain to his mother nothing wrong in marrying a woman who is older. no one cares if the woman is older than the guy, some people will say negative things which is normal, since you cant please everyone. but most people will be happy and give you their blessing.
you could also say our prophet Muhammad(peace upon him) married a woman 15 years his senior. did he care about what people may say and sham? nope..
also as a side note, its best not to rush into marriage without getting to know more about him.
