I am concerned about shaving my private parts

Things that fall under Human Fitrah

Fitrah (Natural Disposition)

Dear Sir Madam,
I haven't been informed by my parents about shaving my pubic hair.

Alhamdullilah I am 15.5 years old and male. I have very thick pubic hair on my private parts. I am afraid of to shave it and I have heard from people that if we dont shave them then all we eat is haram and our prayers are not accepted.

I have also heard that it is a duty of father that when a boy gets young he needs to tell him a way to shave his pubic hair. But my father didnt take even the name of shaving pubic hairs although I think he knows that I am young now and have pubic hair and I am ashamed of asking him about it. I am very tense about it, kindly help me please. Thanks

Stay blessed always.

Brother there are many help books and info on internet. But firstly you shouldn't be embarrased to ask your father or mother. Cleanliness is an important thing in Islam. Its a private sensitive area of discussion. Common sense as well. Like you shave your beard/moustache facial hair, the same is with your "other" bodily hairs. If you don't feel comfortable talking to your parents, then speak to your friends. And fyi. YES it is mandatory to clean bodily hair. مع السلامه

  2. Salaams,

Shaving is a sunnah, but neglecting to shave doesn't invalidate your salat nor does it make your food haraam.

Al-Bukhari and Muslim reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: Five are among the Fitra acts: "circumcision, shaving pubic hair, plucking out armpit hair, cutting one's nails and trimming one's mustache" .

Muslim also reported from Anas (Radiya Allahu Anhu) that he said: "A given period was limited to us as far as trimming the mustache, cutting one's nails, plucking out one's armpit hair and shaving one's pubic hair. We were told not to leave them for more than forty days."

If you don't feel comfortable shaving with a razor, then try some hair removal creams. I personally don't advise waxing- it's painful. But there are hair removal creams that might help instead.

If all else fails, trimming it down as far as you can with scissors or clippers is better than nothing. Just be careful not to hurt yourself, no matter what you end up doing to remove the hair. As you make it a regular habit it will become quicker and easier to do, in shaa Allah.

If you're wanting to speak with your father about this issue, one approach you could use is to ask him if the two of you could discuss Fitra in general - that way the two of you could, inshaAllah, discuss the wider concept, and how best to approach other acts of Fitra as well.

As Sr Amy has said, it is sunnah to remove the pubic hair, but not removing it doesn't make food haraam or mean your prayers wouldn't be accepted.

You might want to look into hair removal creams and razors that have safety guards or other cushioning built in, at least until you used to removing it; that way you're less likely to hurt yourself.

Brother... Since u said that u started developing pubic hair... I suggest u shud start removing it cuz now u r mature and u shud be in a state of taharat and cleanliness so that ur prayers shud be answered.... Try using a razor(blade) .... Or else if u feel afraid to use it try using a trimmer.... Just in case if ur dad didn't mention abt it i suggest u shud start removing it ...
Hope this might have helped u
