Name meaning?

Islamic names

Asalamualikum,

We have named our daughter Ebrah (http://quranicnames.com/ebrah/), but a lot people have brought to our notice the root of the word ebrah (ebrat) which has a negative connotation attached to it. My husband suggests we should change her name now..before she gets older (she is 7 months old) and gets used to her name. I really like the name ebrah and dont want to change it..but if it does have a negative meaning..then ofcourse Id want to change it... I would like to know what exactly Ebrah means...and is bad as a name???

Regards and thanks for the help! May Allah bless you

I'd recommend speaking with a scholar or imam at your local mosque if you have concerns. That way you can inshaAllah get a definitive answer.

From the limited Arabic I'm aware of, I think Ebrah in Arabic means a lesson that grants wisdom. I'm not sure about whether there's a linguistic connection, but it also sounds like it might be related to the name Ibrahim - it might be interesting to find out...
