Performing Dua

Hands raised in dua

Assalamualaikum,

Let's say I want to perform a dua'a Al-Baqarh:286. What should I say before and after reciting that dua'a ?
Do I say the same thing if performed at the end of obligatory salat after last Tashahudd but before Tasleem ?
How about if that dua'a is not from Quran, but Hadeeth ( such as 'Allaahumma 'innee 'as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an ... ') ?

Jazakallah

  1. Wa 'Alaikumus-Salaam Warahmatullahi Wabarakaatuh,

There is nothing specifically that one must say before/after any dua. However, according to many indications from the Holy Quran and Sunnah it is preferred that one begins any act by praising Allah (such as saying bismillah and alhamdulillah), in addition to sending prayers upon the Holy Prophet in the beginning and/or at the end of the act--this has been the way of the salaf.

Please know that according to many indications from the Holy Quran and Sunnah, the sincerity and yaqeen are very important in any act of worship or du'a.

Hope this helps, and Allah knows best.

  2. Asalam alaikum,

I like to say "Ya Allah, sub hanna huwa tAllah, peace and blessings be upon prophet Muhammad." I once read that we should always include Prophet Muhammad before we pray.

    Salam,
    Shereen
