Still confused about istikhara.

Asalamulaikum,
I was going through the article on Istakhara and I'm still a little confused. Actually, I'm doing an istakhara for my 6 year old son, who had an accident at school a month ago where he damaged his eye with a sharp object. Alhumdulilah, he sees fine but he has developed a squint and has double vision. He has had a minor surgery where they explored his eye muscles since he couldn't move his eyeball inward. Although he's improving, he might need another surgery to fix the squint and double vision. I'm doing an istakhara to seek guidance from The Almighty on whether we should do it in our country or abroad.

I prayed 2 rakat after isha prayer, read the dua and slept. I had a dream relating his treatment. I don't remember the dream, but what I wanted to know is if it should be the meaning of the dream I'm supposed to count on, or just go with my heart? And if I dream things, do we have an istakhara dream interpretation? Please throw light on this, and also pray for my son.

Thank you.

  1. Wa'alaikumusalam warehmatullah!

It means do surgery in your country as my first opinion.

You have to keep this in mind, "PRAYERS TO ALLAAH (SUBHANAHU WA TA'ALA). Only Will Make the surgery Successful insha'Allaah Amen"

Do not follow the doubts whispered by the devil. Pray more to ALLAAH (SUBHANAHU WA TA'ALA) and Remember ALLAAH SUBHANAHU WA TA'ALA MORE. THIS WAY YOU WILL CONNECT BY HEART WITH ALLAAH SUBHANAHU WA TA'ALA AND THE LIGHT OF GUIDANCE WILL ENTER INTO YOUR HEART AND YOU WILL KNOW IF I WERE RIGHT OR WRONG INSHA'ALLAAH AMEN

    ALLAAH KNOWS THE BEST!

  2. AsSalaamu Alaikum Sisrer,

Basically, istikhara is a dua to seek guidance from Almighty Allah in what is hidden to us. However, in the physical world, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala Has given us the intellect and free-will, for us to think and choose anything good from the halal things, which we think is best for us. We can do this by looking at the physical means, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of it, while we pray the istikharah to seek guidance at the same time. After combining the two (the istikhara and the intellect), we can only trust on Allah ta'ala and then follow what we think (from our heart) that it's the best thing to do. We should bear in mind that istikharah is not based on seeing a dream, and therefore we do not expect any dream to rely on when taking the final decision.

So sister, think about the physical aspect of the issue, and then see whether there is much benefit in doing the surgery abroad or in your country, and then follow what your heart tells you to do (an eye is not something to be joked with, so you really need to look for the best surgery at anywhere in the world, as long as you have the means to go for it). If you proceed to achieve it and it isn't good for you, Allah subhanau wa ta'ala will surly save you and your son from it, inshaAllah. However, if it's good for you in your Deen and Dunya, He will make it happen successfully with much blessings and good healing, inshaAllah.

As my beloved brother Masood said above (mashaAllah, Akhi), du'a is the key to success. So Sister make du'a a lot. You may also benefit from the du'a bellow at the same time while you go for the surgery, inshaAllah:

    The du'a in Arabic:
    اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ أَذْهِبِ الْبَاسَ، اشْفِهِ وَأَنْتَ الشَّافِي، لاَ شِفَاءَ إِلاَّ شِفَاؤُكَ، شِفَاءً لاَ يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا

    Transliteration for the du'a:
“Allahumma Rabban-nasi, adhhibil-ba’sa, washfi, Antash-Shafi, la shifa’a illa shifa’uka, shifaan la yughadiru saqaman”

Translation for the du'a in English:
"O Allah, the Lord of the people! Remove the trouble and heal the patient, for You are the Healer. No healing is of any avail but Yours; healing that will leave behind no ailment."

    Narrated `Aisha (radhiyallahu 'anha):
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to treat some of his wives by passing his right hand over the place of ailment and used to say, "O Allah, the Lord of the people! Remove the trouble and heal the patient, for You are the Healer. No healing is of any avail but Yours; healing that will leave behind no ailment." (Bukhari and Muslim)

May Allahu subhanahu wa ta'ala remove the trouble and cure your son (our dear little brother), for He is the Healer. No healing is of any avail but His; healing that will leave behind no ailment..Ameen!!!

    • The du'a again after some correction.

      “Allahumma Rabban-nasi! Adhhibil-ba’sa, washfi, Antash-Shafi. La shifaa'a illa shifa’uka; shifaa'an la yughadiru saqaman”

      • Jazaak'Allaah For sharing the dua! My Bro!

        Allaah Knows the Best!

        • JazakAllahu Khair too, Akhi...Please keep me in your du'as ok!

          • Oh Allaah Grant Issah brother what he wants for the Benefit of his Future in this world and the Hereafter without hardships and trails and with Dignity and Safety of Faith and Belief. Amen!

        • JazakAllahu Khair Brother for this beautiful du'as. I really appreciate them and I pray for you the same and more...Ameen! You know I learned to type "subhanahu wa ta'ala" from your writings (mashaAllah)? Yes. I like to adopt new ways from good people like you, mashaAllah. JazakAllahu Khair Akhi.

  3. As - salaamu'alaykum,

Basically , istehara is dua approved by the prophet ( SAW ) himself in authentic Ahadith, but please remember you don't see the dream!

They lie who tell you they saw such and such dream. The dua says it all. E.g. "...if it's good for me (or the person involved)... then (please Allah) LET IT HAPPEN; BUT IF IT'S BAD FOR ME... THEN KEEP IT AWAY. ..." So no dreams. If it's good Allah will make it happen otherwise He will keep it away, simple. ..

Please buy "hisnal Muslim" (fortress of the Muslim) and follow authentic way without changing it from Qur'an and sahih Ahadith ( sunnah)
