My husband pronounced divorce 3 times while he was angry; Am I divorced?
Assalam O Alaikum,
My husband pronounced divorce 3 times while he was angry. However, my husband says that his intention was not to divorce me in real. He said that just to shut me up as I was angry with him. He insists that by Allah; his intention was not to divorce me and only Allah (swt) knows that. My question is; am I divorced?

Salaams,
There is a division among scholars as to whether divorce uttered in anger is valid or not. Some say that any divorce uttered, regardless of the emotional state one is in, is valid. Others will argue that being in an angry or highly emotional state is akin to being intoxicated with alcohol, and thus invalidates the statement of divorce.
The more important issue is that a divorce cannot be completed by saying it three times in succession at once. There has to be a period of time between each issuance of divorce, before it is considered final. I suggest you take this information and speak w/a local imam about what happened so you can get a more formal position on the matter.
The MOST important thing that you mentioned is the fact that your husband should not be making such statements regardless of his feelings. Even if it is not considered valid, it is a serious thing to be so cavalier when making a statement about divorce. It sounds like your husband needs to work on developing better coping mechanisms in dealing with his feelings, so he won't find himself on the wrong side of shariah in the future.

without a shadow of a doubt sister, if he said it 3 times, whether he is angry or joking, YOU ARE DIVORCED.
the prophet[saww] said there are 3 matters which even if one says it jokingly will take place, divorcing a wife, taking her back, and marrying someone.
