You are too hard on yourself, sister. As I wrote in the article, our human history began with the mistake of Adam and Hawaa. We all make mistakes. But if we don't learn to forgive ourselves, then the damage piles up in our hearts and the result is, as you said, feelings of unworthiness, along with hurt and bitterness.

How can you say that you are unworthy of being forgiven? Never say such a thing. Allah says,

“He is the One Who has made perfectly everything He has created: He began the creation of human beings with clay, And made his progeny from a quintessence of the nature of a fluid despised: But He fashioned him in due proportion, and breathed into him something of His spirit…”
Quran 32:7-9 (As-Sajdah, the Prostration)

When Allah says He has made everything perfectly, that includes you. You are a miracle of creation, just like the sun or the sea. You are special in your uniqueness, and extra special in your voluntary submission to Allah (something even the angels cannot do). Allah breathed into you of His own spirit! That is an awesome thing. So how can you be unworthy?

As for forgiveness, I know that you know the hadith about the man who killed 99 men, and went seeking forgiveness, then killed one more for good measure, and still in the end he found forgiveness. Did you kill 99 men?

Always seek forgiveness from Allah, and have hope in His mercy. Stay tuned for my coming article about never despairing.

One may be able to forgive others, because of the compassion Allah has instilled in our hearts.

But what about the zhulm one does against him/herself and against others, whether intentionally or not, maybe through foolishness or weakness.

Thats hard to forgive.

How can one completely forgive one when they feel they are not worthy of being forgiven.
