Can my fiance’s Christian Brother act as a 3rd witness for our marriage?

Family Wedding (brunei)

Assalamu alaikum

My fiance reverted to Islam a few months back and we are planning to get married. The Imam told me that I need 2 male witnesses that must be Muslim.

My fiance would like his brother who is not a Muslim (he is Christian) to also be a witness at our nikah.

Is that possible that he can be the third witness? Because it would mean so much to him if his brother is there as well.

Wasalaam

  1. Assalaamu alaikum. I am not 100% sure about the answer to this question i am afraid, so I may be wrong, but I would logically think that if only 2 male muslim witnessess are needed, as long as there are 2 male muslim witnessess then i dont see why he cant be present. I am afraid I have nothing to back tthis up with, but InshaAllah if I am wrong please correct me.

  2. Zarina, wa alaykum as-salamu wa rahmtullah,

For the Nikah to be valid the witnesses must consist of a minimum of either:

    1. Two males
    2. One male and two females

Who should all be Muslim, baaligh (mature) and sane.

If this condition is met then it stands to reason that there is no harm in additional people attending and witnessing the marriage, whether they are Muslim or not.

  3. salam sister, fist of all in a nikah you have to have at least 2 male witness or 2 female nd one male but they have to be muslim, however a non muslim is aloud in the marrige but not aloud to witness the actual nikah. salam and good luck inshallah sister. x
