Dua to help my husband quit bad habits and become a practising Muslim.

Dua woman at Sunset

"Allah is the Protector of those who have faith: from the depths of darkness He will lead them forth into light." Quran 2:257

Assalamalaikum,

I have been married for 1.4 years. Right from the day of our marriage we had problems. It was because some of my husband's friends and relatives didn't have food in our nikkah due to late preparation of food. So, my husband had developed an aversion towards my parents and my family. From that day till now he keeps on repeating the same in each and every matter. He doesn't allow me to call them or go to my house. He never takes me even during Eid or some important functions. He is not very religious and loves worldly pleasures. He smokes daily and drinks occasionally. Because of his acts my parents are very much worried. My husband keeps on telling that my parents are not giving respect to him. I love my husband but due to some of his acts I am very much depressed.

I am expecting my child in November insha allah. I want to change my husband and make him religious. He never prays or does any acts of islam. I am very much worried for him. He behaves like a psycho at times. Sometimes he says he doesn't like me and talks about his past GF. I want my husband back. Please help me. Is this a psychological problem or is there any solution to this? I want him to understand that my parents are good and that my love is true. Please help me. Is there any dua to change him. ?

Wasalam,

Pareveen.

  1. Salaams,

You said, "right from the day of our marriage we had problems", yet you are asking for a solution to "bring your husband back". From your post, it doesn't sound like your husband has ever been the type of man he should have been- even the type of Muslim he should've been! You have named several warning signals about his behavior that are clearly indicating that this man has no current intentions of changing his habits.

There is nothing wrong with making du'a. If Allah sees fit, He can change the most corrupted person into the most pious. I would certainly make du'a for your husband every day or even more often as you feel inclined. However, remember that even though you are doing this, there is no guarantee of the outcome you hope for. It is truly in Allah's hands.

Even if you are making du'a for him, if I were you I wouldn't stay living with him and tolerating this disrespectful behavior. By engaging in haraam acts he is devaluing himself as a creation of Allah, as well as you, your child, and your family. I would move back in with your parents and create a more stable and nurturing environment for your baby to be born into. You can tell him that unless he changes his ways and starts to be the father and husband you and your child deserve, he can expect you to remain apart from him. Hopefully this will motivate him to cultivate some taqwa about his current path; otherwise you and your baby deserve much, much better.

  2. Hi,

I am a guy and i am not that much of a practicing muslim .. i have not been married and have never been in this sort of situation however i am aware of the culture in the east. Its common in eastern cultures for guys to misbehave with their wives, be it any reason at all, from serving cold or not properly cooked food (which is absolutely normal since women arent master chefs) to family matters as in the one mentioned above.

I am sure that Madam Parveen above has her issues with her husband but i think there could be a way in which this problem might be resolved, for example a very thorough discussion in between the couple where Parveen notifies the husband that she is uncomfortable with the guys behaviour and would prefer it if he changes it. My advice is that you should do it staying with him rather than going to your parents place and then telling the guy your conditions. In the eastern cultures its not always easy for women to breakup with guys due to cultural implications so i think a better way would be to fix the problem and if you are not capable of doing so like if the guy doesnt budge then Islam gives you the right for a seperation, you are legally entitled to it.

May ALLAH give some morality to our so called islamic society so that you and many other women like you trapped in this cultural drama of the east might be able to live proper lives.

    Best of luck .

    • Jazakalahu khairan

    • My husband treats me in ugly manners. He tried to rape me at the same time saying he is not interested in me. He takes yaba and has been taking yaba for more than 2 years now. Please pray for my small beautiful son 4 years old. He is suffering. I feel like I have been too revengeful on his family and him because of their mischieves towards me. Can you tell me a dua which will help. I will follow the one you have posted.

      • Is there really Duas for a man who rapes and abuses women ?? I think the best Dua is for Allah (swt) to protect your child and yourself and get out of there and leave start a fresh and make a Dua that you meet a pious Muslim man who will love and respect you and your child, don't waste another minute with this man he sounds disgusting, the fact you are blaming yourself is extremely worrying , he is mentally and physically torturing you and you are blaming yourself! The only thing that you can be blamed for is staying with this creature and putting up with this digusting behaviour , realise your worth and respect yourself and leave.
May Allah (swt) give you the strength and respect for yourself to leave.
