I feel guilt after masturbation

Man in prayer

Assalam-o-Alaikum,

I need to know that:

1. Is important for a man to shave his pubic hair?
{If yes, then why.?}

2. Sometimes, bad dreams come, after which i use to Masturbate
(that is I release the sperms by my hand).

I'm in big difficulty that what should i do now......because after this I feel like that i've committed some sin....

I need your advise..

  1. AsSalamualaikum,

My brother, you have not committed some sin, but a big sin. Masturbation is Haraam according to the Islamic Sharee'ah. Bad dreams are a part of life. They may come from the Shaitaan. Many times, they act as a catalyst, invoking a person to sin. It is upon the Mu'min that he defeats the Shaitaan and wins over him.
I hope you are not addicted to the habit of masturbation, and it was only one time you did it. Because I understand that it is very difficult to get rid of the addiction to masturbation.
Now that you feel the guilt, do sincere tawbah to Allah,
    1. Give up the sin immediately
    2. Resolve not to turn to masturbation ever again in your life
    3. Ask Allah for forgiveness
    4. Do good deeds, which could act as a way to wipe your sins off
    5. Keep yourself in the company of the Righteous people, who will remind you of Allah, His Messenger, The Day of Judgement on which, we shall all face Allah

Whenever you have a feeling about committing this sin, think about Allah and the day when you will have to meet Him. Think about it, if your family, your neighbors, all of them were to see you do it, what would they think about you?

In this way, keep yourself away from Masturbation, and anything that invites you to it.

Now, I'd insha Allah answer your first question. Shaving of pubic hair is from the fitrah or natural disposition. It is known from the Saheeh Hadith:
    “Five things are part
    of the fitrah: circumcision,
    removing the pubic hair,
    trimming the moustache,
cutting the nails, and plucking the armpit hair.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 5441)

Doing so every 40 days is a requirement for a Muslim. It was something ordained by Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, and Alhamdulillah, we hear and we obey.

    A Hadith has the following:
Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him), who was the servant of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “He set a time for us to trim our moustaches, cut our nails, pluck our armpit hair and shave our pubic hair; we were not to leave that for more than forty days.”

    Narrated by Imaam Muslim in
    al-Saheeh (258)

It was also narrated by Imaam Ahmad (11823) and by al-Nasaa’i (14):
“The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) set a time limit for us, we were not to neglect our nails and moustaches, and shaving the pubic hair and plucking the armpit hair beyond forty days.”
    (islamqa)

Hence, removing the pubic hair is important for both men and women.

I hope you have your answer

    • I do not agree that masturbation is a big sin, or even any sin at all. There is nothing in the Quran or the saheeh Sunnah specifically forbidding it (as far as I know). Those scholars who rule it haram have done so based on this statement which occurs in a few places in the Quran, such as Surat al-Muminoon:

“And who guard their private parts, Except before their mates or those whom their right hands possess, for they surely are not blameable, But whoever seeks to go beyond that, these are they that exceed the limits.”

However, I don't believe that this verse is a clear prohibition of masturbation at all. I know that Imam Malik interpreted it that way, but I think a much more sensible explanation is that the ayah is a prohibition of fornication and adultery. Seeking pleasure beyond the bounds of marriage would refer to seeking unlawful relations with someone else. To extend it to touching oneself seems like an extreme logical leap.

Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal regarded semen as an excretion of the body like other excretions, and permitted its expulsion the same way blood letting is permitted. Ibn Hazm holds the same view. However, the Hanbali jurists permit masturbation only under two conditions: first, the fear of committing fornication or adultery, and second, not having the means to marry.

And Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi feels that Imam Ahmad's opinion is stronger.

The danger comes when the act becomes compulsive and begins to interfere with one's salat and other duties. Also, if the act is used to fuel fantasies of haram acts, then there's a danger that it may lead to haram acts such as zinaa.

      • Brother,

Asalaamu Alaykum. It appears your view on the topic of masturbation is inaccurate. I will attempt, in my best effort, to prove my claim.

I'm sure you know the process of masturbation. With that said, individuals viewing or imagining themselves with other females or males engaging in sexual intercourse does not agree with the significance of preserving a purified soul through righteous actions as Allah loves those among mankind whom are pure. Individuals must be on guard because it is Satan enticing individuals to make the wrong decisions. Remember Satan is Humanities common enemy?

In my opinion, masturbation is a variable to why 10's of millions of individuals commit fornication or adultery. In addition, pedophiles and an exploited child porn industry result because of the "simple" act of masturbation. The final Messenger sent to mankind from Our Creator warned the believers to be on guard of the small or discarded sins.

Scientific studies clearly show troubling results from those who masturbate. Very simple to conduct a google search and gain more information.

In conclusion, Muslims and those who are righteous among the Christians, Jews, and remaining Citizens of the world, must get our act together. We choose to masturbate, chase the false dream that most are conditioned to deem as legitimate dreams, worship the television or telephone, etc. Currently, we are a world nation that is earning the challenges and difficulties related to fear, war, survival in which we continue to face daily at a global scale. Allah knows best. Asalaamu Alaykum.

        • I am going to agree I have a friend who was amazing Muslim and she started masterbation and first lost her imaan then slowly her complete faith was dying infront of me she felt drenched in guilt always far away from god alone isolated slowly I tried to help to pull her up but she said she needed it to keep her calm the indophmines kepted her trapped she couldn't sleep at night because she stressed so materbation relaxed her it became a habit she lost her namaz her materbation became in control of her if she felt down stress moody she did it she has no husband so she is single mom no family she's very alone her area consist of 2 Muslim she's one them

  2. Brother,

You are right that there is no explicit prohibition in the Quran and the Sunnah. But it can not be denied that masturbation is a tool of Zina. It is something that tempts a person to do Zina. Masturbation is an act which involves watching evil (which has been explicitly prohibited in the Ahadeeth) or thoughts to wander in such direction, which would aid in Zina.
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah was asked about masturbation and he replied: With regard to masturbation, the basic ruling is that it is haraam according to the majority of scholars, and the one who does it should be given a ta’zeer punishment, but it is not like zina. And Allaah knows best.
    Al-Fataawa al-Kubra, 3/439.

Yes, it may not be a 'big' sin, but something that aids the big sin. When a person does a sin and continues to do so, the small sins would pile up to become a big sin.

The statement of ibn Abbas Radiyallahu Anhu tells us how disliked the act is:
“What you are doing is better than zina, but if you were to marry a slave girl it would be better for you.”

And the scholars hold the position, as you said about the position of the Hanaabilah, that it can be used, in order to protect oneself from the greater sin of Zina. But, it should be the final resort, when there is no way out. When there is a choice between two wrongs, one should choose the lighter or the lower wrong, instead of the greater wrong.

This is what I believe, and Allah Knows Best

  3. The editors need to be sure of what they type here. I've been following this forum and such difference of opinions has put me in quandary. I mean, what exactly are we dealing here. I think Quran unequivocally states No Adultery, No drinking. Period. Where does it say No Masturbation?

    • Farrukh, as you can see from our answers, there are differences of opinion on this matter. That is sometimes the case in Fiqh. You may follow the opinion of your madhhab, or if you do not follow a particular madhhab you may read the various opinions and make up your own mind. Allah knows best.

      • I'm sorry but I left out an important point. The consistent remembrance of Allah (Read Quran, Make Dua'a, during the process of making decisions, making salat, the avoidance of being isolated or alone) are important remedies for those who are attempting to free themselves from masturbating.

      • Don't follow opinions follow the experience ask the ones who sinned what happened it's real
eye opener they 99% lost there namaz or imaan or complete faith it's a very sneaky habit that kills your faith slowly

  4. The Quran does not specifically mentions haraam against Masturbation, because during the time of Rasulullah (saw), masturbation wasn't invented.

However, there is a chapter, that restricts sexual acts other than sexual acts to spouse.

Chapter 23, 5 to 7, "Those who guard their sexual organs except with their spouses or those whom their right hands possess, for (with regard to them) they are without blame. But those who crave something beyond that are transgressors."

This one, was first seen as halal.

Chapter 70, 29 to 31, "And those who guard their private parts, Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits"

But only from this verse, did people deduced its Haraam!

    • Yes it talks about guarding the private parts ,meaning no sexual intercourse outside marriage because how could someone not see his private parts !! In case of showering , doing the call of nature etc...

So this verse talks about dont show your private parts to others /random people except your wife and your concubine
Not that he also needs to guard his private parts to himself because like i said we do shower etc....we see our private parts

  5. Masturbation is Haraam (unlawful).

This is the ruling of the four Madhaahibs viz. Maliki, Shafée, Hanafee and
one riwaayah (narration) from Imaam Hanbalee. They have drawn their
    conclusions from the following proofs:

    PROOFS FROM THE QURÃN
    * Allah Taãla says:
'And those who guard their private parts from their wives and those
(slave-girls) which their right-hands own - so there is no blame upon them.
Then whoever seeks beyond that (which is lawful), they are the
    transgressors.

The intended meaning of these Aayat is clear. Allah Taãla has praised the
believers for guarding their private parts from that which He has made
forbidden for them. Allah has permitted them to approach their wives and
slave-girls. Thereafter, these words of Allah Taãla follow: 'Whoever seeks
beyond that which is lawful are oppressors who overstep from Halaal
    (permitted) towards Haraam (prohibited).

Hafiz ibn Katheer (RA) writes Imaam Shaafée (RA) and those who have agreed
with him have concluded that masturbation is Haraam from this Aayat.' He
says: 'Masturbation is excluded from these two types which Allah has made
    Halaal, viz. wives and slave-girls.

    * Similarly, these Fuqahaa (Jurists) have drawn their conclusion from the
    following Aayat:
'And those who do not find the means to marry should remain chaste until
Allah gives them resources by His grace.'

This Aayat shows masturbation to be Haraam because of two reasons: Firstly,
in this Aayat Allah Taãla has given the command of chastity and, according
to the principles of Fiqh, a command (an imperative) denotes Wujoob
(incumbency, obligation). Hence to remain chaste is Waajib (compulsory) and
wherever chastity is Waajib it becomes Waajib to refrain from that which is
contrary to it, for example, adultery, fornication, and sodomy. This is due
to the fact that obligatory chastity will not materialise except by complete
refrainment from all that which is contrary to chastity.
Secondly: in this Aayat, Allah Taãla has made chastity obligatory on those
who are unable to execute the command of Nikah. Here Allah Taãla has not
determined any connection or link between marriage and chastity. Hence, this
demands that masturbation should be Haraam. And if assuming, it was
permissible, then Allah Taãla would have mentioned it at this point because
this was the place of explanation. The silence maintaned by Allah Taãla with
regard to it at a place which requires its explanation, denotes that
    masturbation is Haraam.

Imaam Qurtubi (RA) has written in the Tafseer of this Aayat: 'And when Allah
Taãla has not determined any order between Nikah and chastity, then this
shows that besides these two, everything else is Haraam. However, this
Hurmat (unlawfulness) does not include slave-girls because another command
of the Qurãn makes them Mubaah (permissible), viz.
'That which the right-hands earn (i.e. slave-girls).' Hence, in this manner
an addition of slave-girl has come. Masturbation, however still remains
    Haraam.
'Those who seek beyond this (i.e. wives and slave-girls) are transgressors.'
    (Maãrij 31)

Under the Tafseer of this Aayat, Qaadhi Thanaullah Paani Patti writes:
'Imaam Baghawi has deduced from this Aayat that masturbation is Haraam.'

    PROOFS FROM AHAADITH
    * Similarly, the Fuqahaa have drawn their conclusion from a Hadith reported
by Abdullah bin Masóod (Radhiallaahu Ánhu) in Bukhari and Muslim. He reports
that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said, 'O group of youth!
Whoever from among you can marry should do so because it keeps the gaze low
and it protects the private parts. And he who cannot marry should make it
compulsory upon himself to fast because it breaks lust.'
Nabi (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) directed the person who is incapable of
bearing the burden on Nikah towards Sawm (fasting). If assuming,
masturbation was permissible, Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) would
have mentioned it at this point. Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam)
however maintained silence. Hence, this indicates that masturbation is
Haraam because silence at the place of explanation gives the benefit of
    restriction.

    * Some of the Fuqahaa have drawn their conclusion from a narration reported
by Hasan bin Arfah that Nabi (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said, 'Seven
persons are such that Allah will not look at them on the Day of Qiyaamat nor
will He purify them nor will He include them among the learned and Allah
will enter them into Jahannam. They will enter Jahannam first except for
those who repent. As those who repent Allah will accept their repentance.

    1. A person who masturbates.
    2. A person who performs the act of sodomy.
    3. The person upon whom the act of sodomy is performed.
    4. A perpetual drunkard.
    5. The person who hits his parents so much that they appeal for help.
    6. The person who harms his neighbours so much so that they curse him.
    7. The person who commits adultery with his neighbour's wife. (Ibn Katheer
    vol. 5 p. 458)

Hadhrat Anas (Radhiallaahu Ánhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu
Álayhi Wasallam) said, 'The person who performs Nikah with his hands (i.e.
masturbates) is cursed. (Tafseer Mazhari vol. 12 p. 94)

SAYINGS OF OUR PIOUS PREDECESSORS WITH REGARD TO MASTURBATION
    * Saéed bin Jubayr (Radhiallaahu Ánhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu
Álayhi Wasallam) said, 'Allah Taãla will inflict a punishment on a group of
people because they played with their private parts.'
    * Attaa (RA) says, 'Some people will be resurrected in such a condition that
their hands will be pregnant, I think they are those who masturbate.'

    And Allah Ta'ala Knows Best

    • JazakAllah for this reply, brother herman,

But I doubt the strength of the last hadith from Anas Radiyallahu. If you could quote the book of Hadith it is from, it will be great. Further, even the quotes from the Salaf, if you could give some references, insha Allah, it will be great.

Additionally, the explicit Fatwa of it being "Haraam" is not given by the classic scholars. Ibn Qayyim Rahimahullah said: Ibn Aqil said : "and many of our scholars have ruled that masturbation is makruh (disliked), and never explicitly said he that it was haram. If a man is torn between continued desire or releasing it, and if this man does not have a wife, and he fears that he will suffer because of this (someone like a prisoner, or a traveler, or a pauper), then it is permissible for him to masturbate, and Ahmad (ibn Hanbal) is explicit on this."
And the right (correct) for me is that it is illegal, because the Prophet (Peace be upon him) guided one who had a desire, and could not marry, to the fast ... [End Quote...]

And the Hadith from ibn Kathir Rahimahullah is weak (Da'eef)

      Again, JazakAllahu Khair

  6. Assalamwalaikum...
Masturbation is absolutely a sin for married and unmarried people. Our body has natural ways to release sexual tension through nocturnal emissions(wet dreams) People who think by masturbating they are staying away from committing zina are in complete darkness and in the shade of shaitaan.

A narration attributed to Hasan ibn Arfah reports:
“ Nabi (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said, 'Seven persons are such that Allah will not look at them on the Day of Qiyaamat nor will He purify them nor will He include them among the learned and Allah will enter them into Jahannam. They will enter Jahannam first except for those who repent. As those who repent Allah will accept their repentance.

The person who hits his parents so much that they appeal for help.
The person who harms his neighbors so much so that they curse him.
The person who commits adultery with his neighbor's wife.
A narration attributed to Abdullah ibn Masud reports:

“ We were with the Prophet while we were young and had no wealth whatsoever. So Allah’s Messenger said, "O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty (i.e. his private parts from committing illegal sexual intercourse etc.), and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power." Bukhari:5066.

Being muslims we should follow wat is sunnah!! And Allah loves those who keep themselves clean and pure!! May Allah guide us in right path...Jazakallah khair
