We at IslamicAnswers.com extend our most heartfelt condolences to the people of Haiti who have suffered a tremendous loss as a result of the recent earthquake. May those who survived be blessed with patience for their terrible loss.

Disaster relief efforts are underway but the need for assistance is not being met. Thousands of people are sleeping in the streets and most have not received food or water since the earthquake.

Brothers and sisters, Haiti is a country that in the best of times cannot feed their population, and now this disaster has befallen them.

Please help them. Make a donation for disaster relief, even a small one. Allah will return it to you many times over. Consider it an investment in your own future, an investment that yields profit in barakah (blessings).

We urge Muslims and all compassionate people to respond and contribute to the humanitarian aid appeal by Islamic Relief, an Islamic relief organization. The vast majority of funds donated go directly to assistance, not for administrative costs.

Please donate generously in alleviating the suffering of people in Haiti.

  1. Asalaamualaikum Br Wael,

    JazakhAllah for the reminder.

May Allah(swt) instill within us love and mercy for those who are suffering in Haiti and around the world. Lets all use this as an opportunity to draw closer to Allah(swt) through donating, making dua and creating awareness.

"The parable of those who spend of their substance in the way of Allah is that of a grain of corn: It grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whom He pleases; And Allah cares for all and He knows all things". (Qur'an:2:261)

    Furthermore Muhammed (saw) said,

"The metaphor of the believers in their mutual love, mercy and affection is that of the body. When one limb of it (the body) complains, the rest of the body collapses with sleeplessness and fever." [Agreed upon]

    and

"No doubt this wealth is sweet and green. Blessed is the wealth of a Muslim, from which he gives to the poor, the orphans, the needy travellers." (Bukhari/Muslim).

    and

"He who is not merciful to people Allah will not be merciful to him.''
    [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

  2. Seven ears times a hundred grains, that's a seven hundred fold increase! Imagine that for every dollar you give fee-sabeel-illah (in the cause of Allah), Allah rewards you with $700 or the equivalent in barakah. SubhanAllah!

There is a small but growing community of Muslims in Haiti, did you know that? There are five masjids in the capital, Port-au-Prince. Of course many of the original slaves were Muslim, and there's evidence that the slave who began the revolt that resulted in Haiti's independence was Muslim. That's not surprising, as Muslims have played a historical role in fighting slavery. In Panama, where I used to live, an African slave led a decades-long fight against slavery. His name was Bayano, as in "Bayan" or clear guidance. He was Muslim of course.

But I've gotten off topic. Even if there was not one single Muslim in Haiti, they are human beings and they have historically been a very poor and oppressed nation. It's our obligation to help them within our means. I'm proud to know that Islamic Relief has teams on the ground in Haiti helping there.
