How do I ask Allah for forgiveness for something I’m not proud of?

guilt regret female

Salam,

I committed a sin when I was around 9-11 years old. I was going through a lot during that time with family problems and was also going through puberty. I saw a tongue-kissing scene on TV and for some reason decided to do it on my little brother when he was around 4 or 5 years old. He ran away from me when I did it. I regretted it instantly and never ever did it again. He does not remember it and I had also forgotten about the whole instance until now at 24 years old. I regret it deeply and want to ask Allah for forgiveness for doing it. Please advise me on how I can do this.

  1. Ws,

You were only 9-11 when it happened, so obviously not yet old enough to be held responsible for your action, there is nothing to worry about. Allah does not hold you accountable for things you do before you reach the age of understanding - which is around 15 years.

Of course nothing stopping you asking Allah for forgiveness, but Allah says he has already forgiven you.

I like this quote. Hope it helps.

  3. Honestly, it's not even something you have to ask forgiveness for. You were a child, and not responsible. That kind of imitation or experimentation is very normal at that age. Alhamdulillah, your natural sense of fitrah told you it was wrong, and you never repeated it. Don't worry about it at all.
