Islamic marriage advice and family advice

I did a major sin, and I want to ask for forgiveness

repent forgive

The Door of Allah's Forgiveness is Still Open!

Assalamualaikum.

A couple months ago I did the unthinkable sin and exposed my body to a man. I committed this sin twice.

I was raised in a muslim household and taught everything about Islam. People might judge me hear, but this sin has been haunting me for the last few weeks and I need help.

Me and my family went to jummah prayer, several months after I committed this sin. Before this I never felt any remorse, but that day, after jummah, I ran to the bathroom and started crying just thinking of what I had done. It suddenly hit me, what a big sin I had committed.

It hurts more because this is not the kind of person I am, I would never stoop this low. But I did. I think of this everyday and cry.

I want to change, I want to be a better muslim. I can't change what's done, neither will I ever forget it. But, I'm working my way to be a better muslim. I threw out my webcam and want to start fresh. I started praying more often and signed up for quran classes.

I also read somewhere that you should read surah ikhlas and a dua for forgiveness. And I've been doing that ever since my breakdown.

Will Allah ever forgive me?

  1. Of course he will inshallah. All you have to do is show sincere regret and remorse and pray two rakah and make so much dua at the end asking for forgiveness and cry it all out inshallah. Remember Allah's mercy is greater than all SUBHANALLAH. Don't despair and seek forgiveness

  2. Try to recite “Subhanallah Wa Bihamdihi Subhanallahil Adzim” as many times as you can. Everything will be alright. No one of us is perfect. Just seek forgiveness from the bottom of your heart.

  3. Even I did the same. I was a practicing muslim. I had been in a relation with this guy some years back. I really loved him, still do. He promised me marriage. So I just couldn't say no. I feel like killing myself now.

  4. AsSalaamu Alaikum Sister,

First of all, I commend you for striving hard to do the right thing. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala help you and us all.

My dear, know that Allah, The Most Merciful forgives all sins, so long as we turn to Him in repentance.

Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the Holy Quran:

"Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves: do not despair of Allah's mercy, for Allah forgives all sins. He is indeed the Forgiver, the Clement."" (Quran 39: 53)

    Al-Bara' b. 'Azib reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said:

"What is your opinion about the delight of a person whose camel loaded with the provisions of food and drink is lost and that moves about with its nosestring trailing upon the waterless desert in which there is neither food nor drink, and lie wanders about in search of that until he is completely exhausted and then accidentally it happens to pass by the trunk of a tree and its nosestring gets entangled in that and he finds it entangled therein?

He (in response to the question of the Holy Prophet) said: Allah's Messenger, he would feel highly delighted.

Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said. By Allah, Allah is more delighted at the repentance of His servant than that person (as he finds his lost) camel."

    (Muslim)

    Few things to do, inshaAllah.

    1. Regret the preceding sin sincerely.
    2. Stop the sin, and stay away from anything that leads to it.
    3. Intend firmly not to return to the sin again.
    4. Do good deeds as much as you can everyday.
    5. Ask Allah for forgiveness as much as you can everyday.
    6. Perform salah, do dhikr and read the Holy Quran.
    7. Make duas morning and evening, and ask Allah to help you with the above.

    Suggested duas:

    1. "La ilaaha illaa Anta, subhaanaka, innee kuntu minaz-zalimeen (there is no god but You, You are far exalted and above all weaknesses, and I was indeed the wrongdoer)."

    2. "Ya Hayyu, ya Qayyum, bi-rahmatika astagheeth. Aslih lee sha'nee kullahu, walaa takilnee ilaa nafsee torfata ‘ayn . (O the Living, O the Eternal, I seek help in Your grace. Set right all my affairs, and give me not over to my self even for as little as wink of an eye)."

Hope this helps, and Allah knows best.

  5. Of course, Allah will definitely forgive you. I won't tell you what Dhikar should you recite because every good dhikar of Allah is overwhelmed with blessings.
What I want to tell you is that Allah has already forgiven you. He forgave you right away before even your first drop of tear in guilt has touched your cheek. Allah has brought you close to Himself before even your first tear in remorse has absorbed in the threads of your shirt. Be sure and have faith that Allah has forgiven you before even your first tear of repentance touched the ground. Allah loves those eyes welled up with the tears of repentance.
    Stay blessed
