Islamic marriage advice and family advice

I’m 26 and he’s 40, what does Islam say about age differences in marriage?

Salaam brothers & sisters!

I am 26 and my "soon-to-be" is 40. We are both divorced (we are both good and practising Muslims) and wish to marry soon. I am just wondering if there is a limit on age difference according to Islam. Like, is he too old for me? As I am sure this will be my parents' biggest issue.

My parents are Christians and I would like to have the Islamic ruling on this rather than their Christian ruling.

Thank you so much in advance!

May Allah(SWT) bless you all =)

Islam does not set an age barrier for couples. There are successful marriages where the man is older, the woman is older, or the ages of the two are very close. What is most important is that the level of Imaan of the two should be similar. Both of you should be practicing Muslims who desire to have a balanced life, and who are striving to please Allah.

Now, there are some practical concerns when a younger woman marries a more mature man. He might be a bit more settled and think a wild night is sitting on the couch watching the news, while you itch to get out and go to the mall and walk around. This happens even between couples of similar age, though, so you just have to make sure you are compatible on a personal level. This can be done by talking together with a chaperone present, or by even filling out little informational questionairres about your likes and dislikes.. If you find you are compatible, then by all means, marry and inshAllah you will have a blessed life in this world and the next. You are the person who will have to wake up next to this man every day for the rest of your life, so don't let outside naysayers influence your decision.

    Fi Aman Allah,

  3. Salam,
as long as u both love each other and promise to keep each other happy....there is no problem with age difference in Islam....i believe if there is quite an age difference between the male and female...they would respect each other more.
