Do we have to interpret Quran according to today’s stituation?

Muslim Child to foster as per the Sharee'ah

A Muslim Child Holding the Qur'aan

AOA, im a Muslim Alhumdulilah. and i try to do Daa'wah of Islam to others. someone asked me a question and im confused on this. the question is that do we have to interpret Quran-e-kareem according to the present era.

Quran is surely a book of guidance for all of us but when we go towards the tafseer to find the solution of any present situtaion, we find it difficult to understand because those are old tafaseer... do the islamic scholars need to organize a latest tafseer to make the Quran more understandable for todays's generation??

PLEASE answer to this question urgently so that i make this thing clearer to that person. JazakAllah.

  1. Assalamu'alaikum sister sara,

The Quran was best understood by the one to whom it was Revealed - Muhammad bin Abdullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. No scholar of this day can understand it better that the ones who directly learnt it from the Final Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam - the Sahaabah Radiyallahu Anhum. The next in the 'Ilm of Quran are the ones who learnt from the Sahaabah, and then that followed them.

For us to do da'wah, it is best to stick to the understanding of the Salaf as Saliheen, who include the people I mentioned. And these have been preserved in the books of Tafseer such as Tafseer ibn Katheer, Tafseer al Qurtubi or the Tafseer of Ibn Abbas Radiyallahu Anhuma. It is possible that the Sahaabah may not have understood something, but they were silent about it. And these matters are very little.

An example is the mention of the women who will go to Hell Fire in Sahih Muslim: "the women who dressed but naked"

Imam Nawawi Rahimahullah explained this in Sharh Sahih Muslim:

The first meaning: the woman who got the favor of Allah, but was reluctant to give thanks to Him.
The second meaning: women who wear clothes, but empty of good deeds and do not want to put akhiratnya and is reluctant to obedience to God.
The third meaning: the woman who reveals some members of his body, accidentally revealing her beauty. This is what women are dressed but naked.
The fourth meaning: the woman who wore clothes so thin in the visible part of his body. The woman was dressed, but actually naked. (See Sharh Muslim, 9 / 240)

There is no difficulty in understanding this phrase at all, when we keep these meanings in mind.

If there is any doubt in understanding the Quran, you should ask the people of knowledge. Allah Says:

{Then ask the People of Knowledge if you do not know}, [Soorah an-Nahl, Aayah 43 and Soorah al-Anbiyaa., Aayah 7].

One more suggestion. When you do Da'wah, you should have sufficient and sound knowledge about what you are calling to. This ensures you are effective and you clear the doubts in one sitting. If you have doubts, ask the people of knowledge. Tafseer in accordance with today's situation is certainly not necessary and it may not be as accurate, as it may not be adopting the understanding of the Sahaabah and their followers.

Your da'wah changes styles according to the people you are talking to. If you talk to an illiterate, you will talk different. If you talk to an Atheist, you talk different, and so on.

If you have any specific doubt, mention it to the people of knowledge and then answer the people who question you.
