Islamic marriage advice and family advice

Is my marriage legal?

Cross cultural Muslim marriage between a Caucasian man and Asian woman

Good day,

I am new to this site, even to Islam. I was converted not that long ago.

My problem is this: I was married before as a Catholic, but unfortunately my wife got pregnant when I was working in kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

After I recovered from my depression I met a girl and we dated. Then we got married in Muslim way.

Is my marriage in Islam legal???

  1. Tazmania, As-salamu alaykum,

Let me see if I understand correctly:

    1. You are a man who was a Catholic, married to a Catholic woman.

    2. You went to work in Saudi Arabia, and while you were there your wife cheated on you and got pregnant by another man.

    3. You became depressed. At some point you converted to Islam.

    4. You married a Muslim girl (I am guessing an Asian girl, maybe Filipina?).

If all this is correct (and assuming that you sincerely converted to Islam before you married the second woman), then I see no reason why your marriage would no be Islamically legal. In Islam you are allowed to marry more than one woman. So I see no problem.

However, you should make sure to initiate legal divorce proceedings from your first wife in your home country.

  2. AA;

Congratulations on becoming a Muslim brother and getting married 🙂

You said you got married in a Muslim way so you guys are married in front of Allah and the Muslim faith people. But you will need to check (what ever country you are in) the legality of it, the status with your previous wife, etc.

May ALLAH guide us, grant us patience, and shower us with his mercy.

If I am correct, it is from ALLAH. If I err it is from me, and I pray ALLAH forgives me. Allah knows best.

  3. Salaams to all my brothers and sisters in Islam,

To my new brother in Islam, Tazmania, i say As-salamu alaykum and welcome to the fold of Islam, may you find peace and Allah's mercy.

As a resident of UK, my advice will be as follows:

1, Please make sure you can prove that the pregnancy is not yours (for example, if you have been away in Saudi Arabia long before your catholic wife got pregnant)
    2. Be sure you can show that you got married to a new woman after your catholic wife got pregnant.
    3. If all the above is clear, then you should have nothing to worry about divorcing your wife if you wish to (although, polygamy is not allowed under UK law), however, do bear it in mind that though, you can divorce her on the ground of infidelity and getting pregnant for another man while being married to you, if your wife will not claim it was your baby, then you can expect it to be easy.

Pray to Allah for help about everything worrying you, May Allah make your affairs easy for you.
