Lost my religion: Islam
An airplane smoking and falling apart just after takeoff from Stockholm in 2007. The airplane returned to the runway safely.
I was born Muslim, and I remained a Muslim till my 21 years. I followed Islam in its true spirit: I would not miss a single prayer, Tahajjud, Fast, anything- name it. I was a staunch follower of Islam. and I believed in Allah - Our relationship was superb (Me and God's), but then I questioned His existence. I lost Faith in Islam and in Allah and I became an Agnostic.
A few months later I turned into an Atheist. I believed in Science and I still do. Later on I converted to Christianity, but in a month I left it. Then again I turned to another religion -Buddhism, but I could not do it; it was not worth it. I again turned to Atheism -no God. Now I'm 26, I'm havin' a good job as engineer, but I am unable to find peace in my life. I have made 2 suicide attempts related to my life, right after I left religion.
It's killing me 🙁 A number of times I tried to get back to Islam but FAILED!!! The very idea of God becomes unacceptable to me, but a few months back I do remember while I was on a flight and our plane had some severe jolts because of weather and I thought we would crash and all I could utter was the Kalimah, and I uttered it many a times.
I'm literally hating myself now. I don't wanna face God if He exists, I'm just too much ashamed 🙁 because all I know is that I am a hypocrite. I would pray to Him only when I need help, otherwise I boast about being an Atheist.
The universe...life...everything in it confuses me to the extremes that for a moment if I think about Allah, the universe, life, emotions, all I want to is to kill myself to know the truth about everything. Even a sin now has no charm; nothing appeals me now. I have lost faith in right or wrong 🙁 I want to believe in Allah but I am unable to 🙁

Allah's Apostle said,
"Every child is born with a true faith of Islam (i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone) but his parents convert him to Judaism, Christianity or Magainism, as an animal delivers a perfect baby animal.
Do you find it mutilated?" Then Abu Huraira recited the holy verses: "The pure Allah's Islamic nature (true faith of Islam) (i.e. worshipping none but Allah) with which He has created human beings.
No change let there be in the religion of Allah (i.e. joining none in worship with Allah).
That is the straight religion (Islam) but most of men know, not." (30.30) [Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 23, Number 441]

A "God-module" in the human brain?
Scientists at UC San Diego reported last year that one part of the human brain is
especially active during intense religious experiences.**1 There are a variety of
techniques to study which parts of our brains are specialized for different tasks. It is
hardly considered news anymore when scientists locate specific brain regions that are
especially active when we read words, or solve equations, or listen to music. Finding a
"religion region" in the brain, however, caught the media's attention.
Experiments were performed on three patients suffering from a type of temporal lobe
epilepsy in which seizures are often accompanied by intense mystical or religious
experiences. Patients were sometimes preoccupied with mystical thoughts between
seizures as well. The scientists found that increased activity in a particular brain circuit
was associated with a heightened involuntary response to religious symbols and words.
It should not surprise us that our brains show specific activity during religious
experiences. Christians do not (or should not) believe that our relationship to God occurs
entirely within immaterial souls, of which our bodies are mere vessels. Our whole being -
-- soul and body, mind and brain --- should respond to God. Nor do our brains have a
singular "God module" as the site of all religious activity. Our relationship to God is
personal and complex, not limited to just one kind of experience. No doubt many parts of
our brain participate in many kinds of religious experiences. The temporal lobe, for example, is known to be important for intense emotional experiences. We should expect it to participate in intense religious experiences. It is certainly intriguing that a particular sub-region is rather specialized, at least in these patients, for religious imagery.

Trust me when i say we have all been there. I dont think anyone's faith is as steady as a rock, it always goes up and down and the point is that you keep coming back to Allah because he is the most merciful. i too was once a zelous muslim at a young age and then my faith changed with time and age.
From my own experience i can tell you to start with the basics when you are at your low. What is Islam? what are its basic principles and why follow the prophet? ask the basic questions and study Islam as if you have never heard about it before. I say this because we take it for advantage when we grow up with it, and follow it because our family followed it. But as an adult, you actually have to think about why you follow islam and why it makes sense to you.
when you start with the basics inshallah this will give you a good basis. I love the following lecture by this brother, and its a reminder for myself every once in a while because i still struggle with prayers after many years and have come to terms that this is my challenge.

I can tell you why i am a muslim, its because i need Allah. Allah does not need me, but i need him because there are many times in your life that are challenging, mysterious, sad, and you need Allah for comfort and something to lean on. Because other people are part of the test. but Allah is my constant companion.
Also, dont underestimate the power of company. Who do you surround yourself with? Are you around people that take you away from Allah and make you focus on rubbish stuff? Even if you are alone, what do you do with your time? If you fill it with junk, you will only think about that junk through out the day. This is a warning to myself as well. You are what you do.
And you know what, there is a dua i make in my prayers that helps me quite a bit- i made it up, there is no arabic for it- i just say it in english. I just pray that Allah always guides me to him no matter how far i stray. and forgives me for all that iv done. I say this as i stand, sit, whenever i remember etc.
We all go through our own faith journey. This is yours, its never too late to turn to Allah and ask him for guidance and the strength to follow his deen.
Take your time, dont rush into things until it really makes sense and you really truly believe in your heart that Islam is right.

Henry, everyone has such thoughts in their lives. The difference is that some people act on their thoughts while some do not. Allah Created the universe as He Wanted to, and His Wisdom is beyond Human understanding.
You said the universe, life, everything confuses you. Allah Created us, in order that we Worship Him. He Created the universe for a purpose that we are not aware. We know that the earth is for us, but we do not know why the other galaxies and planets exist.
But when such a thing exists and functions so perfectly such that even one second of difference can lead to drastic change, everything still functions perfectly. How? Because there is One Deity controlling it all. All of this is just perfect, without any flaw. He Said in Surah al Mulk:
3. Who has created the seven heavens one above another, you can see no fault in the creations of the Most Beneficent. Then look again: "Can you see any rifts?"
4. Then look again and yet again, your sight will return to you in a state of humiliation and worn out.
Shaitan is our greatest enemy. He will be thrown into the Fire for his disobedience when Allah asked him to prostrate to Adam. He denied saying he was greater than Adam. He confuses the Humans in order to take them along with him into the Fire.
“The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘The Shaytan comes to some of you and says, “Who created such and such? Who created such and such?” – until he says, “Who created your Lord?” If that happens, then let him seek refuge with Allah and stop thinking about that.’”
Subhanallah! He told us that this problem will arise and he told us what the solution is. We stop thinking about it. But why? Because Allah Created us all and we think that everything had a beginning and will have an end. We can not think of anything that did not begin and will not have an end. This is how Allah Created our mind. It can not think beyond the limits, so it assumes that even Allah would have had a beginning, which is not true. He Had no beginning and shall have no end. But we can not understand this as this state lies much beyond the limits of our thinking, our brains.
For this reason, we should avoid applying logic to everything we see. Because Allah's Creation is much much beyond Human Logic. We will not understand everything we see, but we should also know that nothing in Islam, in truth, defies reason. It is just that we do not understand.
Do you believe in a God? If you do, then you should believe in The One Who Created everything that exists. Allah Said in Surah al An'aam:
74. And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) said to his father Azar: "Do you take idols as aliha (gods)? Verily, I see you and your people in manifest error. "
75. Thus did we show Ibrahim (Abraham) the kingdom of the heavens and the earth that he be one of those who have Faith with certainty.
76. When the night covered him over with darkness he saw a star. He said: "This is my lord." But when it set, he said: "I like not those that set."
77. When he saw the moon rising up, he said: "This is my lord." But when it set, he said: "Unless my Lord guides me, I shall surely be among the erring people."
78. When he saw the sun rising up, he said: "This is my lord. This is greater." But when it set, he said: "O my people! I am indeed free from all that you join as partners in worship with Allah.
79. Verily, I have turned my face towards Him Who has created the heavens and the earth Hanifa (Islamic Monotheism, i.e. worshipping none but Allah Alone) and I am not of Al-Mushrikun (see V.2:105)".
Allah explained how His Light is like in the Quran, in Surah an Nur:
34. And indeed We have sent down for you Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) that make things plain, and the example of those who passed away before you, and an admonition for those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2).
35. Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The parable of His Light is as (if there were) a niche and within it a lamp, the lamp is in glass, the glass as it were a brilliant star, lit from a blessed tree, an olive, neither of the east (i.e. neither it gets sun-rays only in the morning) nor of the west (i.e. nor it gets sun-rays only in the afternoon, but it is exposed to the sun all day long), whose oil would almost glow forth (of itself), though no fire touched it. Light upon Light! Allah guides to His Light whom He wills. And Allah sets forth parables for mankind, and Allah is All-Knower of everything.
Allah's Deity is beyond imagination. We can only think about what He Has informed us and not beyond. Going beyond that will lead us nowhere but to misguidance and towards the Hell Fire. Belief should be like it was of Abu Bakr (May Allah be Pleased with him). When he was informed about the visit of Prophet Muhammad to the heavens and back in one night, he did not look for reason, he did not ask how. He approved of it without a second thought.
In the words of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) himself, this is how the incident occurred which resulted in the five daily prayer becoming obligatory on Muslims: “Allah enjoined fifty prayer on my followers. When I returned with this order of Allah, I passed by Moses (Peace be upon him) who asked me, “what has Allah enjoined on your followers.” I replied, He has enjoined fifty prayers on them. Moses said. Go back to your Lord (and appeal for reduction) for your followers will not be able to bear it. (So I went back to Allah and requested for reduction) and He reduced it to half, when I passed by Moses again, I informed him about it, he said, Go back to your Lord as your followers will not be able to bear it. So I returned to Allah and requested for further reduction and half of it was reduced. I again passed by Moses and he said to me: Return to your Lord, for your followers will not be able to bear it. So I returned to Allah and He said. These are five prayers and they are all (equal to) fifty (in reward) for My word does not change. I returned to Moses and he told me to go back once again. I replied, Now I feel shy of asking my Lord again. (Reported by Ibn Hazm and Anas bin Malik .. Bukhari).
The morning after the Prophet’s (Peace be upon him) return to Makkah he related the events of the night before. “By God! This is ridiculous! A caravan takes a month to go to Syria and a month to return! Can you do that long journey in a single night!” When Abu Bakr heard the news he exclaimed. “By Allah, if Muhammad (Peace be upon him) himself has said so, then it true. Remember, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) tells us that the word of Allah comes to him directly from heaven to earth at any hour by day or night, and we believe him. Is not that a greater miracle than what you are now doubting?”
Subhanallah! All of this is much beyond our imagination, yet we approve of it because Allah Has the Power to do all things, though we do not understand it correctly.
So, my advise is that you affirm that The God that Created all of us and the Heavens and the Earth and everything between them is Allah. Then believe in everything He Says and His Messenger Says, without questioning how. If you understand it, great, if you do not understand it, approve of it without a second thought. Because it is true, even though beyond your thought.
Quran is a miracle enough to understand that Islam is true and Allah Is The Only True God Worthy of Worship.
Whenever the waswas (whispering) of the Shaitaan comes to your heart, just say:
Huwal Awwalu wal Aakhiru Waddhahiru wal Batinu wa Huwa bikulli Shai'in 'Aleem
(He is the First and the Last, the Most High [Ascendent] and the Most Near [Intimate]. And He is the Knower of all things)
and say:
Amantu Billahi wa Rusulihi
(I believe in Allah and His Messengers)
Then give up those thoughts and concentrate on something else. In sha Allah, you will be able to control the waswas that Shaitan intends to root in your heart of disbelief and the way that leads nowhere but to the Hell Fire.
He Said in Surah at Tahrim, Aayah 6:
O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allah, but do that which they are commanded.
I Pray that Allah Guides us, me and all of Humanity.

I forgot to mention that it is best to live among the Muslims who would remind you of Allah. So if you can relocate to a Muslim locality/country, this will prove to be a great success, in sha Allah.

When Musa Alaihis Salam was travelling with al Khidr on a boat, a bird came and sat on the edge of the boat, dipping its beak once or twice in the sea. Al-Khidr said to Musa, "My knowledge and your knowledge, in comparison to Allah's knowledge, is like what this bird has taken out of the sea.'' (ibn Kathir)
So you can imagine what you know compared to what you do not. Allah Is The All Knower and He Gave you limited knowledge. So you should accept it as the Sahaabah did, as Abu Bakr did and Alhamdulillah, as I do.

How unfortunate are you, you was blessed to be born muslim and you left your deen to believe in another religion... If your faith was strong enough you would never have made such a mistake, however there is still time to realise your mistake and repent to Allah, Allah is most forgiving...

Abdula, it is simple. He is asking for a reference from the Quran and the Sunnah for a specific statement you made about Allah's Light and the veils. You can not say anything and ask people to refer the Quran. Please give the specific reference instead.

Once a jew came to Hazrat Ali RA n asked that u muslims put such an effort in ur religion..what if u die n theirs nothing ahead ??
Ali RA said: If it all what u said wud be true then we muslims will still be in a win win situation n we wud just end up living our lives in a gud manner but what if Muslims are true then what wud u do after u die?? the jew had no answer..

You don't realize that you're completely totally trapped in his plans. He is taking you away from Allah,Please be careful,it is not good. Please don't go any further and repent,i sincerely ask you to do that,build up ur Imaan by doing many many many good deeds. When i was young,i used to get these kind of thoughts,these are actually put in our mind by satan,My grandma used to call these thoughts "Waswasa" and said i should recite La hawla wala kuwwat , as it clears the mind. Please don't confuse yourself,this is just going to make you insane,trust me!
Shirk is Indeed the greatest sin of all,Allah mentioned this several times in the Qur'an that he would forgive anyone,any sin he committed no matter how great it is,but he would not forgive shirk.
Verily, Allâh forgives not that partners should be set up with him in worship, but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He pleases, and whoever sets up partners with Allâh in worship, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin. (An-Nisa 4:48)
But if a person repents from it before he dies,he will be forgiven by Allah,because He is Ghafoor,Raheem.
"Say: "O 'Ibadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." Surah Zumar. Verse 53.
You have got a chance brother,you STILL have a chance,death comes to us in all of a sudden,it never knocks the door before coming,so please,i request you please repent before its too late. Don't be ashamed. ALLAH Loves those who repent. Hurry my brother,Allah is waiting for you to repent,return to him and come back to the right path. May Allah guide you with THE BEST,forgive you and help you with this confusing situation. Ameeeeeenn !
