Marriage lines on hand

Hands raised in dua

Asalaamu alaikum! I would like to ask what does Islam has to say about authenticity of hand lines especially related to marriage?

I am not a firm believer in these things but over years many people who know reading hands pointed out that I do not have a marriage line on my hand and I won't get married by choice. I never really paid much attention to it until recently since now people of my age are getting married and even I did get a few proposals. I didn't like them hence things didn't move ahead cause of it. It's obvious I don't want to end up alone. And this thing is now starting to scare me.. so I don't know what to believe, my hand lines or not.

And in case what is in my hand(taqdeer) is true then what dua I can make to change my taqdeer? Since I have read only dua can change taqdeers.

  1. Athena, Walaykumsalaam,

Allah(swt) has stated in no uncertain terms that He alone knows the future: "Verily the knowledge of the Hour is with Allah alone. It is He(swt) who sends down the rain and knows the contents of the wombs. No one knows what he will earn tomorrow nor in which land he will die, but Allah is all-Knowing and Aware."(Surah Luqmaan 31:34)

So those who read hands to determine one's future claim to know the unseen and this is an extemely sinful thing. You should immediately do tawbah for visiting a palmist.

Safiyyah reported from Hafsah (wife of the Prophet) that the Prophet (sws) said, "The Salaah of whoever approaches a fortune-teller and asks him about anything will not be accepted for 40 days and nights."(Muslim) Furthermore, Abu Hurayrah(ra) and al-Hasan(ra) both reported from the Prophet (sws) that he said, "Whosoever approaches a fortune-teller and believes what he says, has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad." In other words he has become Kufr/a disbeliever.

So Athena, this matter of hand reading which you are taking very lightly is costing you your Salaah and possibly your status as a 'Believer'. No-one knows the future and you must move away from hand reading and all other forms of future telling. Make sincere tawbah and reaffirm your faith in Allah(swt) right away.

With regards to getting married, there are many sisters in the same boat as yourself. Look at what you can change in yourself, learn your deen so you can protect yourself from sinful acts as above and strengthen your faith. Make the right effort to find a spouse and make dua aswell. Insha'Allah when it is your time, you will get married.

As in the image above, raise your hands in dua to become nearer to Allah, not to be read by fortune tellers as that will take you nearer only to shaytaan. Please see this article by Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips, it explains the seriousness of the sin involved in fortune telling: http://www.muslimaccess.com/articles/misc/fortune_telling.asp
