Islamic marriage advice and family advice

I need suggestions to succeed in university

Science class at an Islamic school for girls, time to study,

Muslim schoolgirls studying science.

Salam. I am glad i found this forum as it is very productive in terms of helping others.

I am currently doing Masters in Engineering field from a reputable institution. My problem is very common. Actually i have recently finished my 1st semester of Masters with such disastrous results that i am put on academic probation by the University due to my low grades. I have never been that disgraced in my entire academic career.

This tag of probation is driving me suicidal. i don't know what to do next, all my hopes are shattered, i am so ashamed. my other friends have scored great and here i feel so broken. i know i can cover it in next semester by taking a good result but here in my university it is very hard to take an Alpha and i want to score alpha in all three subjects that i am taking. so I can get as good cgpa as possible. But very few members from the faculty is that much generous in giving alphas.

I have decided in my mind i will work hard day and night and will do the best even at the cost of isolating myself from others. but please i need suggestion how can it be possible when the university has so much competition.. how can i manage my time and study most effectively?

Please i need suggestion from good graders how do they manage their time and able to get so much good grades? Are there any effective methods of studying they follow. Please help me with whatever advice possible or whatever wazifa, dua, routine, food etc possible that drastically improve my chances of obtaining Alpha.

My second semester has just started. please advice me soon.. i will pray for from the core of my heart. May Allah give you reward for your kind suggestions.

Wa salaam,

  2. You should not be ashamed, rather it's the university system that should be ashamed, because if an educational institution cannot make the students understand their studies and find their problems , then that institution is a failed one. It's normal for children to make mistake, a robot does not make mistake , but a human does. But the system where they judge students as superior or inferior, it's their sickness.
So don't feel bad , it's your learning age, try to find out what is your problem, discuss with others, but please don't think u r inferior, because , a human is not judged by his learning skill but by his knowledge.
To do get good score, u can make a schedule / routine, that u can paste on your room. Try to follow the routine , but if u study hard to get knowledge , u will InshaAllah get good result in exams. There is no alternative for studying hard.

It's not uncommon for people to have periods where they struggle with their studies, so don't let this setback cause you to give up. You deserve the place on your course (otherwise you wouldn't have got it), and if the university didn't think you could recover from this, they wouldn't have allowed you to continue, so they think you've got potential.

It might help to speak with your tutor or supervisor, and ask them to help you identify where you were going wrong last semester. This could be a hard conversation for you, as nobody likes being told they've got things wrong, but it's worth trying. Once you know where you're going wrong, you can start planning how to change things to put them right. If you don't know, you're more likely to repeat the same mistakes.

After this, look into study courses at your university. Many reputable universities will have study skills classes, or access to an educational psychologist. Going to one of these courses might help you develop your skills, or find new ways of learning things. People learn in different ways, so don't be afraid to experiment with study techniques.

Make sure that you're attending all your classes, and that you have access to the appropriate resources (library card, textbooks, journal subscriptions, etc). If you find it helpful, find a few fellow students to study with.

Set a realistic schedule for yourself - aim to spend maybe an hour studying for each hour you spend in class, spread out over the week, with additional time for projects and assignments. This might feel like a lot, but when you consider that you have the weekends as well, and not every day is likely to be 9-5 classes, it becomes a lot more manageable.

Spend some time thinking about your study habits and concentration span, and break your studying up into chunks of time that you can realistically manage. Most people can't study or work efficiently for more than half an hour at a time, so it can be more efficient to have smaller sessions where you concentrate and work hard, rather than a long session where your mind wanders.

Life isn't all about studying, though. Don't isolate yourself from your friends - make sure that you schedule in some time to relax by yourself and with friends. Maybe you could meet friends for brunch at the weekend, before going to the library, or for a well-earned evening off once every couple of weeks. You also need to have time for yourself.

And above all, trust in Allah. He is All-Knowing and has a plan for each of us, which will be best for us in this life and the next.

  4. Asalaamu Alaykum,
    Duaa' before taking an exam:

"Rabbi ishrahli sadri, wayasirli amri, wahlul ookdatan min lisani, yafqahu qawli"
    رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي

Translation: "O my Lord! Expand my breast for me and make my affair easy to me, and loose the knot from my tongue, (that) they may understand my word..."

May Allah help you and guide you through your studies:)

    Your sister in islam,

P.S. Although I'm still in middle school -- not college like you 🙂 -- this duaa' really helps me before I take an exam. Almost all the exams that I take after saying this duaa' came back with good scores, inshallah the same happens with you:)

    • Thank you soo much for the advice, i have given my 2nd sessional exam which went fine Alhamdulilah.. Finals are still left plus i have plans to give entrance test of Navy too please do pray for me.. May Allah reward you INSHA ALLAH 🙂
