Islamic marriage advice and family advice

Is my nikah real?

Real marriage or fake marriage? After I got divorced at the end of  May 2005, I met a guy that I really liked. We decided to get married early July 2005.

I was still in Iddat. He was aware of this and told me that he would marry me once my iddat was over.

I did not tell him that I was still in Iddat and we got married 2 months later. I only experienced two menstrual cycles at the time.

Is my nikkah still valid? I am now married for 5 years with two kids.

  1. Dear Haniya, Asalaamualaykum

We cannot answer a question of this nature as it is a Fiqh matter. Please consult with a qualified Imaam/Mufti.

I have read that whilst a woman is in her iddat period, a man cannot openly propose to her, although he can hint to her indirectly by saying something like: 'You would make a good wife', or 'I would like a wife with qualities as yours'. I read this in Ibn Kathir's tafsir of Surah Al Baqarah. Anyhow, this is just from my limited reading and you should seek advice on this entire matter only from a qualified person.
