I took an oath on the Quran not to do something, but I have broken it.
Salam Alkum Brothers and Sisters,
I have done something that I swore by the Quran, that I wouldn't never do again, but I still do it. Then after I did it I swore again that I wouldn't do it, but then I still did it. I know that this time I will never do it again, but I feel like Allah doesn't love me, or trust me, or has forgiven me. And it has been horrible pain. Please someone help me. Thank you.

Salaams,
We should not take lightly making an oath to Allah. It doesn't matter if we swear on Holy Qu'ran or just make a solemn oath to Allah. We are accountable to our promises, so it's vitally important that we only make such promises when we know we can keep them.
That being said, feeling like you can keep an oath should never be a basis for which to make one. Feelings are unreliable and transient, and a majority of choices we make in them will cause us regret. You made an oath the first time, then broke it. At that point, you should've thought more than twice before making the same oath again. Yet you did, and you broke it again. When it comes to such a serious thing as making an oath to Allah, you have to take feelings out of the equation. You have to ask yourself, "What are the chances I will break this oath?" If your past experience shows that you have already broken an oath or crossed bounds in this area, then the chances are already too high that it could happen again. Good intentions for being obedient will suffice without making another broken oath.
Yet what's done is done, and now you have to work through the consequences. In the Qu'ran it states:
Allah does not take you to task for your inadvertent oaths, but He will take you to task for oaths you make intentionally. The expiation in that case is to feed ten poor people with the average amount you feed your family, or clothe them, or free a slave. Anyone without the means to do so should fast three days. That is the expiation for breaking oaths when you have sworn them. Keep your oaths. In this way Allah makes His Signs clear to you, so that hopefully you will be thankful. (Surat al-Ma'ida, 89)
If you want to reconnect your relationship with Allah, make tawbah and complete the outlined expiation. Resolve yourself that you will go forward in obedience and not engage in the acts which you swore you wouldn't. Not only that, resolve that you will never again take such oaths. There is no penalty in living your life without making any formal oaths to Allah; in fact it's better than living a life of taking many oaths that end up broken.

Assalmualikum warahmatullahiwabarakatuhu ,
I wanted to ask that i made two promises to Allah and i didn’t break it but removed it so that i dint break it so what should i do next like how should i proceed further?
Salaam alayikum,
I would like to respectfully post that I don't quite agree with the response made by the website. Sometimes, a person might make an oath to Allah as a safeguard against the evil of their own self in order to try to correct their behavior and create a barrier to it. Then, if they happen to carry through, that is commendable. If they don't, then a poor soul out there in the world will receive the benefit of being fed for at least ten days, or clothed, or the person will get the benefit of mandatory fasting for God's sake. Therefore, I think it is better to make ten oaths and break them (not intentionally, of course) than to not make any oath at all, and not receive the benefits that come with either outcome.
salam sisters and brothers I am in great trouble I took oath that iw ill not talk to my boyfriend and not lie to my parents and not to open facebook account but I broke the promise and my mom said that you will not make relation with other boys but I talk with my cousin and he loves me and I opened the facebook what should I do please tell me to take my oath back like I want to leave the oath I fasted today was my first day what should I do please do tell me please

I had taken an oath in front of my bf with whom i am in a rltnhsp since 8 years..he is 20 nd i am 19 ..Also he is my cousin..MY family had cuaght me 4th time 3 days back..nd now again they have snatched my phone nd stopped me from attending my clg..my bf is trying to tell his parents (my phuppi and phuppa) but he said he needs a little time so tht my father nd mothers anger will be a little less..so tht they listen to us..but while crying nd talking to him..emotionally, i just said that "tell abt us at your home in next 7 ddays or quran ki ksm mai tmhari bhen ko khud msg krdungi yaa tmhari shkl ni dekhungi chahe mai marr jau"..but just now i realised tht we have a really close cousin's wedding from 11 feb to 15 feb nd we will be in our hometown..so its impossible to tell in the coming 7 days..Also i feel tht he is right..we shud wait for 5 10 days so tht things get a bit normal...but now tht i have taken the oath i don't know, what i shud do?
plss do help!
Also I ead the above comments, people suggested to feed 10 poor people or cloth them.. i am jujst 19,also at house arrest so how shud i do the kaffara???
nd wat do you mean by free a slave?..pls do help me!!
tamanna, how can you be in a "relationship" with a cousin since you were 11 years old? What kind of relationship? What does it mean that your family "caught" you? Caught you doing what? And what exactly do you want your "boyfriend" to tell your family? That he wants to marry you? Does he have a job or education?
Honestly, I don't blame them for taking way your phone. We don't have boyfriends and girlfriends in Islam, and it is completely wrong and inappropriate for a child to be in a "relationship."
You had a youthful fling and crush with a cousin. Grow up and leave it behind, and make tawbah for whatever sins you committed. Think about your life and your future, not to mention the health of your future children, inshaAllah.
Anyway, if you want advice, please register and submit your question as a separate post, and explain these things more clearly.

I have taken a oath on quran
And I regret taking it because I feel I won’t be able to be on words and I am totally stressed and in fear Allah for it.
I have taken the oath but now broken it
And am scared about why did I take it
Have already done Tawabba
But do I have to make kafara ?
Please help me
Jazakallah
assalamalaikum. I read ur post of not breaking promise take on Quran.
I took an oath that I would never watch porn again but watched it for 2 or 3 seconds and closed it immediately. I read about the kaffara and closed the window of porn for fear of Allah. Did i break my promise, do i still have to pay the kaffara.
Jazakallah khair
abdullah, I think that's up to you to decide. Do you feel you broke your oath? Be honest. If the answer is yes, then you did. If not, then ma-sha-Allah, it's okay, just don't do it again.
By the way, I think it's great that you have managed to break this pernicious habit.

jazakallah khair. I felt i broke the promise because while opening the page i remembered about your previous comments to the question regarding kaffara..it was not more than 3 seconds but i did intentionally.
My question is how do i stop myself in future. My iman fluctuates very easily. I pray regularly but when i'm on off from my work, i tend to go towards this activities. After taking oath, ive alhumdolillah stopped many times but don't know what hapnd at that point of time. After Ramzan with out any oath, i was alhumdolillah very easily sucessful in stopping myself from songs and movies but this new thing came in my life..Help..i want to change myself.. U ppl are doing a great job..may Allah s.w.t help u in every aspect of life and grant sucess in duniya and hear after. ameen.

assalamalaikum..could you please elaborate on kaffara for breking oath on quran..i read the above post but its not clear. I have to feed 10 ppl but is it for one time or two meals. I read at some other place that i have to feed twice..two meals..please reply quickly so that i can get rid of the tension and be on track once again.
Wa Alaikum as Salam brother Abdullah,
I'll mention what Shaikh Abdul Azeez bin Baaz Rahimahullah said about feeding the 10 masakin and the other forms of expiation if you break an oath:
If a Muslim who reaches the age of Taklif (meeting the conditions holding one legally accountable for actions) repeatedly and intentionally swears by Allah to do/quit doing something, such as to swear by Allah not to visit/visit someone, then breaks the oath; Kaffarah (expiation) of an oath is due, which entails feeding ten Masakeen (needy persons), clothing them, or emancipating a bondsman.
As for feeding, it is obligatory to offer half a Sa`(1 Sa` = 2.172 kg) of any local staple food such as Tamr (dried dates), rice or the like. This quantity is equivalent to approximately one and a half kilos.
Clothing is fulfilled by giving any garment with which a person can offer Salah (Prayer), such as a shirt or a garment and Izar (garment worn below the waist).
If a person is unable to offer any of these three alternatives, they must fast for three days, for Allah (Glorified be He) states:
Allâh will not punish you for what is unintentional in your oaths, but He will punish you for your deliberate oaths; for its expiation feed ten Masâkîn (poor persons), on a scale of the average of that with which you feed your own families, or clothe them or manumit a slave. But whosoever cannot afford (that), then he should fast for three days. That is the expiation for the oaths when you have sworn. And protect your oaths (i.e. do not swear much).
(taken from Darul Ifta, Saudi Arabia website)
I hope it is now clear

But can you tell me the worth of an oath taken by a person forcefully or by taking him/her under pressure?
Asalam-o-alai kum, i have read your post about kaffara for breaking oath on Quran. My problem is that my husband is very skeptical (shaki) person. he does not trust anyone so I had taken an oath on Quran that I will share everything with him and never hide anything from him. Now it is getting difficult for me to share everything. My question is that if I fast for three days as kaffara, will this oath end or I have to continue it again as I do not know how many time I have broken this oath. I want to finish this oath so what should I do?
Mrs Shoaib, please log in and write your question as a separate post, and give us more details about the situation. For example, what does it mean to "share everything" with your husband? And what kinds of things do you not want to share?

I make a promise to my boy friend that i wil not date any other person except him, but later found myself dating another person and i love him than the first one.wil i be free and continue with the second person if i do what is stated above.
Barakat, we do not have boyfriends and girlfriends in Islam. Both of these relationships you have had are disapproved and wrong. You should stop these relations and look for halal marriage instead.

Ok thank you. If i decide not to marry the man i made promise with and marry the man i did not promise and i did what Allah has said in the Quran for breaking promise, hope i wil be free.
Assalam o alaikum!!
I need help regarding a mistake I did in past.
I swore to Allah that I'll do something in future but couldn't fulfill my promise completely. It's like I unsuccessfully tried to keep the promise. I'm in a really bad position at the moment, i'm struggling hard...... very hard... but unable to succeed.
It's my perception that i'm facing these problems because I didn't fulfill the promise.
Should I pay kaffara to seek forgiveness or is it just a normal thing to face problems in general?
Tasmiyah, the Messenger of Allah (sws) said, "Surely deeds are according to intentions." It sounds like you intended to keep your oath, but were unable. Is it possible to still fulfill it? If not, then you tried, and that's what counts. As for your struggles, who knows. It could be that Alalh is testing you, or that Allah desires to strengthen you and reward you for your sabr. You should not interpret struggle as a punishment. Allah knows best.

Dear Brother
Can you guide me as well as this thing is eating me
Its regarding breaking the promise/taken oath/vow- i took on my 'eemaan' that i would never be on any social or other networking site- to prove my loyalty to the man i loved (i am out of that relationship now)
But now I feel that since I was in a haram relationship, the promises given to him turn to be invalid and if I am seeking Islamic guidance/knowledge or trying to help a Muslim brother/sister in the light of Islam (like on this site) , then there is nothing wrong about it. But I am not sure about it.
Am i right or should i have to pay any Kaffara for this?
Please help me in light of Islam. Jazakallah khairan

Hello brothers and sisters I need help. About a year or two ago I had been cought smoking and I was about 12. I usually never do things like that I always try and be good. So I swore to my mom that I would swear to Allah that I wouldn't smoke again. About a year later I had done this stupid thing again. I'm always scared that I won't earn forgiveness and will go to hell daily I ask for forgiveness of my sins. I'm now 14 and this is haunting me please help me, thank you
As-salamu alaykum Ali. Just make your tawbah again and do not smoke again. It's a bad habit - very bad for your body and brain. TV and movies make it look cool, but it's simply nasty. Don't worry, Allah is forgiving and merciful. So don't be too hard on yourself for past mistakes.

Her friend made an oath on the quran telling her mother she wont talk with her boyfruend. But she broke the promise. She has to make kaffara. Fast, feed 10 poor people or clothes to the poor. What should she do?
The method of the expiation of an oath has been mentioned by Allah Most High in the following verse:
“For expiation, feed ten poor persons, on a scale of the average for the food of your families; or clothe them; or give a slave his freedom. If that is beyond your means, fast for three days. That is the expiation (kaffara) for the oaths you have sworn.” (al-Ma’ida, 89)
Freeing a slave is irrelevant in our times (unless you live in certain African countries). So she should feed ten people, or clothe them. If she cannot, then she should fast three days.

Translation is as per Ahmed however in addition basically Samreen is asking can she do the kaffara of those things in place of her friend who actually broke the promise.
But wael, how can we expatiate an oath that is not even a valid oath? It is absolutely haram to swear by the Quran. All Muslim scholars say this. So the oath in itself is not even valid. So how can you expatiate it?

AoA. I'm in a very hard situation and I really need a exact solution of my problem. I made an oath to Quran about something swore to never to do it again. Still I have kept my promise but I feel lianke its very hard for me now.I want to know how can I cancel my oath I mean I know Quran is not an ordinary book thats something which shakes me off to the fear of Allah and maybe thats the reason I'm still working hard to keep it yet I don't want this sin thats why I'm asking how to cancel my oath in islamic point of view. I don't want to be a gunnahgar i request to give me accurate ans. Please.
Jannat, if the oath was to avoid something haram, then you should stick to it. If not, then you can break it and perform kaffarah (expiation).

My friend made an oath in anger to not to talk to his sibling, he doesn't know what to do, he doesnt want to break the oath and be sinned what shal he do?
Since the oath is for something haram - it is forbidden to cut off family ties - he should break the oath and do kaffarah.

When u take an oath u must fulfilled it, and anger is the bad habit, it is haram.
But Allah is very merciful, he will forgive
If he already broke his oath then he must feed 10 poor people or clothe them or free a slave or fast for 3 consecutive days
Salaams
Sincerely apologize for asking this question more than once, it's just that the question itself never really got answered.
My parents made me say wallahi I won't self harm again, and I said wallah. I broke this oath maybe 2 or 3 times. Must I fast 3 consecutive days for each time I broke it? (Meaning 2 or 3 sets of three consecutive days)?

You are not supposed to have a "he" best friend. Sooner or later it will change into some thing else. Why you want to get "separated" from your best friend.
