Islamic ruling on talking to non-Muslim ex

Ex-husband, ex-wife, the ex

Caution around the ex.

I am very happily married to a new revert but he has 2 children from a previous non Islamic relationship. His ex plays games and stops him from seeing them whenever she feels like it and is now telling him that they need to talk if he wants to see them.

I am finding this hard to understand that he is even considering it as i am sure there are specific Islamic rulings on such things but if possible can anyone advise me as i do fear that if he continues to go along and play her games then it will cause Fitnah in my marriage.
Can anyone please advise?

  1. Assalamu'alaikum,

You are right, it may cause a fitnah. When divorce happens, a couple is separated and they become strangers. She becomes his non Mahram.

If she wants to talk, you may accompany him there so that there is no or less fitnah. (note that this is my opinion).

I read that the woman can prevent him from entering her house, but she must bring the children out so that he can see them, except when the child is ill.

  2. Salaams,

If an ex is playing games about visitation, then I believe the courts need to be involved. There needs to be a court order in place outlining when he sees the kids if there's not one already. If there is already a court order, he can take her back to court for contempt if she is not willing to follow it.

He can tell her that if she wants to "talk" about how he can see the kids, then they can do it in the presence of a court appointed mediator.

I know that's not a shariah answer, but in truth that's often the only way these types of situations can be solved.
