  1. Dear Daman, Asalaamualaykum,

Congratulations on your reversion to Islam. May Allah make this blessed path easy for you, aameen.

I cannot find an exact meaning of the name 'Domiana', but a websearch of the name brought up related names as 'Dominique'. And Dominique is from the Latin Dominicus which means 'belonging to a lord', which is derived from 'Dominus' which means 'master, a lord'. So while 'Dominique' would be a good name, 'Dominus' would not be. But I do not know what 'Domiania' means, or even if it has a link to either of the above names.

If you are unsure about the meaning of your name, perhaps you could change your name to something with a good meaning. Since you have reverted to Islam, a name change could prove to be a fresh start for a new life inshaAllah.

    • SisterZ, keep in mind that almost all English language names (except for Biblical names) have their origin in pre-Christian traditions and culture, usually Latin, Greek, Germanic or Celtic. So "belonging to a Lord" derives from the age of serfdom, when people were either lords or serfs. It refers to someone who is a slave to a human noble or lord. So it's not a good name and should be changed.

To the questioner, all these names that start with "dom" revolve around the idea of human servitude. In my opinion such names should be changed, and Allah knows best. We Muslims should be servants only to Allah, and our names should reflect that.

I recommend that you change it.

      • Ah thanks for educating me on that Wael! Thats quite interesting to know.

So Daman, in that case, I second Wael, in that you should change your name.

  2. well yes but remember a name is just a name ; first and foremost is one's deeds not necessarily their ''english'' name .... just because someone has the name green does that mean he's a non-muslim? no because it's one's heart and soul we should look to. but yes as you all above have said changing it IF it is non-islamic is prob best. as in if it isn't pleasing allah ! 🙂 well done OP for wanting to find out the meaning so as to correct it if it's not appropriate but not all english names will be necessary to change
