When must I shave?

Shaving razor (Electric shaver for women).

Electric shaver

Assalamualaikum,

I am a 15 year old boy. Is it necessary for me to cut my pubic hair in islam? And also the armpit hair? Will my namaz get accepted if I don't shave my pubic hair until I'm 18? Is it necessary for me to cut them now only?

  1. Salaams,

It is a sunnah practice the shave the pubic hair of the underarms and groin area upon achieving puberty. However, if you neglect to do so, it won't affect your salat/namaz. The validity of those isn't based on whether you've shaved or not.

Your hair must be trimmed or shaved every 40 days. Again, it's a sunnah practice, not an obligatory act. If you need help with the actual shaving/trimming, ask a trusted male relative like an older brother or your father for tips.

  2. Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.!

Dear Friends, I have been studying thoroughly on the issue of removing Pubic hairs and hygienic cleaning on different blogs, webpages etc..!

After getting helpful pieces of advice from knowledgeable people and comprehensive reading by myself, I have concluded following tips that will help everyone in this regard In Sha Allah.!

    1. Go parallel to the grains/hairs and not against.
    2. Change your razor after every one or two times of using.
    3. It's better to remove the hair in the private areas once in one or two week period. (As I also do the same and it's better not to prolong this period as clean person is blessed more by Allah with concentration in Ibadaat and purity of heart. Though the maximum limit is 40 days but Mustahsan and likeable is one week, and Friday being the best day for cleaning.)
    4. Go smooth with razor, without inserting much pressure with it.
    5. Go slow and at short distance instead of long.
    6. Wash that body part (with soap etc) before and after shaving/cleaning.(You may wash with water only after cleaning)
    7. Start from right, as Holy Prophet Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam loved ATTAYA'MUN in all good things.
    عن عائشة رضي الله عنها:
كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يحب التيأمن في شأنه كلها.
    (أو كما قالت عليها السلام)

Hope these tips will help you friends, Jazakallahu Khaira !
