Why am I tired all the time?

amnesia sleepy tired no energy tired mum

Asalam Alaykium My Siblings in Islam, hope you all are well in sha Allaah! I want to ask you a question related to health and I hope you can be able to answer my question.

I always feel tired all the same no matter what I do, tiredness always takes over me. I always take a nap in the early afternoon, which is very embarrassing. When I was very young, I used to have so much energy; it has faded away after my vermiform appendix was removed. I used to sleep all the time at school, taxi, home, family’s home and anywhere but I am getting better alhamdulilaah.

I never exercise apart from a bit of running to get a train or bus on time, and sex. My husband always said it is because I am lazy which is very hurtful.

I took my blood for test and result showed my iron is very low so I take iron tablets every day but it does not help. I eat spinach but nothing works at all. I remember the dua to seeking Allah from laziness. I see some tips from internet but do not answer at all.

I want to know what should I do to stop being tired all the time and which du’a? I want to fight it, Insha-Allaah.

JakaAllah khairu.

  1. Slm sister,

If you're falling asleep at odd times and too often during the day you may have narcolepsy. I suggest you visit your doctor or research it online to see if the symptoms apply to you. I doubt very much its due to you being 'lazy'.

I'm not too sure what the organ who have had removed is or what its function is but perhaps it's all related.

Keep well my sister and if nothing else - there's nothing wrong with an afternoon nap 🙂

    • Sister Aniqah is right. You need to see a physician who specializes in sleep disorders. You could have chronic fatigue syndrome, or you might have sleep apnea. We cannot diagnose you over the internet.

Of course dua' is important. Keep on asking Allah to give you strength and good health. I'll give you a good dua' to read. But make sure you see a specialist doctor.

Here is a wonderful dua' that was taught by the Prophet (sws):

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, naasiyati biyadika, maadhin fiyya hukumuka, 'adhlun fiyya qadha'uka asaluka bi kulli ismin huwa laka, sammaita bihi nafsaka, aw an-zaltahu fi kitabika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, awista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaibi 'indaka, an taj'alal-Qur' ana Rabbi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jalaa'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi

Oh Allah, I am Your servant, the son of Your servant, the son of your maid-servant, and entirely at Your service. You hold me by my forelock. Your Decree is what controls me, and Your Commands to me are just. I beseech You by every one of Your Names, those which You use to refer to Yourself, or have revealed in Your Book, or have taught to any one of Your creation, or have chosen to keep hidden with You in the Unseen, to make the Qur’an Al-Karim the springtime of my heart, the light of my eyes, the departure of my grief, and the vanishing of my affliction and my sorrow.
      [Ahmad 1:391, ibn Hibban]

The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said, "There is no-one who is afflicted by distress and grief, and says (the above), but Allah will take away his distress and grief, and replace it with joy." He was asked: "O Messenger of Allah, should we learn this?" He said: "Of course; everyone who hears it should learn it."

JakaAllah khairu for respond, I will try to visit doctor next week in sha Allah. Will keep you update 🙂

  2. Salamualaikum,

sister, maybe this is because you are used to sleepin, which you did after you were operated. You can can recite the dua to get rid of laziness:

'Allahumma inni Aoozubika minal Hammi wal Huzni wal Ajzi wal Kasli wal Bukhli wal Jubni wa Dala'ad Dayni wa Ghalabatir Rijaal'

Further, when you wake up for Fajr, what I heard from the Ulama in a Dars of Hadeeth that you should blow your nose thrice, as the Shaitaan spends night in the nose of a believer. This also makes one fresh and active, as I have experienced. Practice the daily adkkaar. Keep your tongue wet with the Remembrance of Allah Subhaanah. You can do the adhkaar from the book of Du'as called 'Fortress of the Muslim - Hisn al Muslim' you can find it in all leading Islamic Book Stores, or can download a soft copy from http://www.islamhouse.com

Insha Allah it will help you fight laziness, which, I believe, is a toll of Shaitaan to keep us away from Worship.

May Allah keep us active, all the time.
    Aameen
    Wassalamualaikum
    Muhammad Waseem

    • JakaAllah khairu for added Du'as but can you explain in English please as I dont understand Arabic?
      Thanks.
I never heard of the Shaitaan spends night in the nose of a believer. Wow I learn something new everyday

      Ameeen!

  3. Smiley09,

Why are you embarrased for taking a nap in the early afternoon? : ) This is known as a 'Siesta', a nap that is taken in the early part of the afternoon in countries where the climate is warm. And as far as I know, it is actually a sunnah to take a siesta after Dhuhr Salaah. When I find the hadith, I will post it here insha'Allah.

'Harvard researchers have found that taking a daily nap can reduce the risk of death from heart disease. The study showed subjects who napped at least three times a week had a 37% lower risk of dying from heart disease than those who stayed awake all day.'

    • I feel as if I am the only one to take a nap lol. JakaAllah khairu sister for make me feel load better alhamdulilah!

  4. dear sis,

few things that can make you very sleepy, do you stay uo late at night, are you overweight, you might be suffering from sleep apnea , where u wake up eseveral times at night as you are unknowingly struggling to breath. get your haemoglobin checked , if its low that can make you very tired as well. see your doctor , he will start investigating.sometimes depressin can make you feel very tired as well.

i think its not just laziness , i think you need medical attention.

    • Wasalam
Im more like 7-8 stone weight i think, I havent have my weight checked since last year. I try to sleep maxium 7-8 hours. Yes you are right, I have problem with breathing as my nose is blocked.
I will check with Doctor next week in sha Allaah, JakAllah khairu for advice.

      • I have read in Sunnat Nawabi and i tried a lot. it worked like miracle.

Wash your feet with tap cold water (not with warm water) after taking warm bath...

And I also wash my feet with tap cold water when i do ablution (washing myself) for prayers 5 time a day. so blocked nose, sneezes and running nose will be cured...Test it yourself.

And those who have dried lips try mustard oil, olive oil, or any natural oil on the belly button... its sunnah and see for yourself..

  5. I have covered psychological problems with sleep, just to clarify in a day do you feel 'sleepy' or 'lazy'.

Sleepy being the need to rest and eventually or succesfully fall asleep after the rest. lets say you have lunch and then lie down but fall asleep without intention

Lazy being lacking the energy to complete a task, feeling that you cant do something since your body is not responding and feels 'tired'. lets say you have to chop potatoes in kitchen, but you dont have energy or feel 'too tired' to get up go kitchen and cut potatoes so you stay in your place.

    • I feel very sleeply mostly of time after lunch or whatever i went out then get home very tired. If i try to do work at university but instead I just go home because I feel really tired or sleeply.

  6. Asalaam alaikum,

It sounds like you are anemic with your low iron count and thus the fatigue, but please get tested before taking the outlined advice and prescriptions.

  7. Salam

I have the exact same problem, the EXACT. I get shouted at all the time at home for being useless. I feel useless. I fall asleep after meals and when I return from a brief walk or journey, I struggle to sleep at night, my digestion is poor, I can feel my mind becoming dull, I look awful and tired, my speech is affected...I even sleep on holidays!!.. list goes on.

It all started from an emotional trauma, before that I was alright.

I currently exercise, eat (relatively) healthily I try my best to stay awake but I can't.

I also struggle to express emotion, as my muscles give way/loosen briefly on the onset of sudden emotion, it's called cataplexy, it usually comes with narcolepsy/sleep aponea.

So don't worry, your not the only one but there is a cure for everything on this earth (except death). A combination of medicine (herbal or otherwise) and Duas and the right awrad/dhikr should help you inshaAllah.
Try looking into cures with black seed oil, prophetic medicine,herbal/homeopathic/Ayurvedic/Chinese medicines too for energy etc.

Allah grant everyone who is unwell shifa.

    • Well i have the same problem narcolepsy and cataplexie but you Saïd someting about curses whit black deed,....? Dis did you find a solution for you???

  8. Other things which may encourage energy levels are things like reducing stress levels, take up tai chi, yoga, do deep breathing exercises when you can, change your diet too; making sure lots of water is drank throughout the day.. Cupping/hijamah might also help actually, try it.

I'm 7 months late in replying but I hope these suggestions reach the people in need, especially you as I know this isn't easy to deal with.

    And Allah knows best.

Allah grant all those unwell shifa. Ameen.

  9. Asalamulaykum sis ,
I had similar problems to you and its not normal to feel sleepy all the time.
I would advise you to get ruqya done by a trusted raqi innshaa Allah.
Ruqya is a form of Islamic healing using the Qur'an which is sunnah.

  10. Dear sis

Couple of week i was searching online to find a cure for my tiredness. Moreover, I had same kind of issues like yours. I searched a lot but all in vain.... it ruin my day and life. Nevertheless, bright side there is always hoping and as Muslim, we should not lose the hope. So i were thinking about my issue and brainstorming as well..

The good thing I found the cure... Today's modern societies we almost forget our simple way of life...

The solution, i came to know is not a new one. However, I first give the evidence from Sunnah of Muhammad S.A.W.W

"We should sleep according to the Sunnah as there are many benefits including physically health and mentally health.

The Prophet's (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) Bed
'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), states that, 'The Messenger of Allah's (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) bed was made of animal skin, which had leaves of date trees.'

Imam Muhammad Al-Baaqir (May Allah be pleased with him) says that, 'Someone asked 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), 'How was the bed of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)'' She replied, 'It was made of leather, in which was filled the coir of the date palm.''

Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) was asked how was the bed of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) in your house'' she replied: 'It was a canvas folded into two, which was spread for the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) to sleep on. On one night I thought if I folded it into four and spread it, it would become softer. I folded it and spread it that way. In the morning, the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) asked: 'what did you spread for me last night'' I replied: 'It was the same bed; I only folded it into four so that it may become softer'. The Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: 'Leave it in its original form. Its softness deprived me of my prayers (Tahajjud) at night.'

'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) states that, 'The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was sleeping on a mat, the marks of the mat were left on his blessed side. I said, 'O Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) only if you would sleep on something better than this'. The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) replied, 'What have I to gain in this world, this world is like as if a traveller is travelling in the sun and he sits under a tree and gets up and goes.'''

    Supplication Position
'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) states that, 'When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) would lie down every night on his bed, he would raise his hands in the supplication position and pray. He would recite Surah Ikhlas (Qulhuwallahu Ahad) three times, Surah Falaq (Qul A'oodhubi Rabbil Falaq) once and Surah Naas (Qul A'oodhubi Rabbinnaas) once and blow on his palms and wiping his hands over his blessed body where they could reach, this was done thrice.'

How The Prophet (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) Slept
The Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) would put his blessed right hand under his blessed right cheek. He would lie on his blessed right side facing the Qibla and rest on a pillow that was made from leaves of a date tree.

Bara bin 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) reports; 'When the Prophet (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) retired, he put his right hand under his right check'.

    Supplication Before Sleeping
Hudhayfa (May Allah be pleased with him) states that, before the Prophet (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) went to sleep he would place his right hand under his cheek and pray this supplication:
    "

Look at the simplicity of the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) and we sleep on the best mattress available. There is no problem in sleeping on a good bed; however, you should make sure to wake up for Fajr Salaah. Unfortunately, people stay in their comfortable beds and miss their Salaah but when it comes to waking up for work we will not miss a day. We should try to sleep on the floor at times following the Sunnah, Inshallah; you will not have a problem waking up for Salaah.
Simply I want to say, change your mattress as I did. Before my Mattress was very soft because of that, I became very lazy and feel tiredness all the day. Now I have another mattress that is not very soft neither it is very hard... I prefer now to sleep on the floor. The benefit, which i have felt my tiredness is vanished like it never exist. Scientific reason is that there are less magnetic waves, these waves cause harm. The pious people "Wali ullah" and scholars most of them were prefer to sleep on floor.

  11. Eudzubillahi minash-shaitaanir-rajeem
    bismillahir-rahmaanir-raheem
    alhamdulillahir-rabbil 'alemiin
allahumma salli we sallim ala seydina muhammed

    Salamu aleykum rahmatullahi we barikatuh
Alhamdulillah Allah has bless mankind with Quran and Islam
and last prohvet muhammed allavumma salli we sallim.

My advice and small expearence would be as follow:
    1. What ever problem is there turn to Creator of your problem
when prohvet musa a d ibraheem had "problems" they turned to Allah directly
    (Before water and big fire)
there for inchaAllah wudu(ablution) +2 uniti pray + dua by expressing ownself weakness and expressing Might and Power of Allah. Hold in the heart laa hawla we la quwwata illa billah there is no power or streight but with Allah.
And if nothing change blame and think ownself problems and do the process again
with strong faith and hope of Allah Mercy that Allah helps.etc

    * never ever say i asked but nothing happened now we need just hope and have patience

    2. Quran reading it and also special aya and Ruqya would be nice
*1st use always authentic things that came from Allah.

    3. Give sadaqah and make dua.

    4. Actually there is duas for this and our family in Islam has given alhamdulillah a book. Ask afwa aafya and so and so
and there is other dzikr to make to get out from grief and sorrow
    http://www.islamawareness.net/Dua/Fortress/

Of course very much repeating daily
astagfirullah more than 300 or 1000
allahumma salli we sallim ala seydina muhammed ala aali seydina muhammed we baraka we sallim and there is different types can check authentic sources
and thank alot and hope for Allah Mercy. Etc.

    5. Try to avoid sinning
    6. Try to be positive
    7. look your food and quantity and quality
use ecologycal food and halal food and halal sources food
this is our bensin so if your car running with disel and you put there water or bensin petrol or gas or coca what happens?
so avoid none ethical food if you want to know more need to speak privatly.
    through mahram.
it is very IMPORTANT POINT. VERY
always look halal tablets also and when eating make dua and do not believe that tablets are helping but this is only cause and Allah is the One Who is giving blessings throught these foods and tablets and money through business etc.
Would be nice also to say bismillahir rahmaanir raheem before eating and other duas aswell

8 evil eye still exist so recite 3 last surah and 2:255 nice when 3 times and 7 times fatiha and even other Quraan while making food and hoping shifa from Allah.

9 family should be united abd supportive

10 muraqqbah-Islamic meditation but according to sharia. The easyest is everyday 2x10minut sit down on confortable position close eyes and bread calmly and clear your heart and mind e.g if think comes dont think can recite Allah Allah or laa ilaha illaAllah etc. This is also big thing. but yoga etc opens door for shaitan if my understanding is correct.

    and lets keep it Simple
    hasbuna Allahu we niamel weqeel

May Allah make it easy and bmless you with everything that is good and hold you away from all sorts of evils.
    ameen

      • Having low energy and not being able to do anything points at an Underactive thyroid or a condition known as HYPOTYROIDISM.Low iron is also indicative of this disease.Pls find a good doctor for Thyroid to check your levels.

Also read Surah Baqrah every night before bed.Read with full concentration and understand the meaning of what you are reading.Dont talk to anyone after reading and go to bed.At Fajr, read Surah Saffat and Surah Hashr every day.
Also read Azkar after every salah and dont forget Azkar for Fajr and Maghrib.(azkar for morning and evening).Have faith in Allah and ask for His forgiveness and mercy.
Most importantly, remove all pictures from your house and there should be no tv.Because we all know that there is a hadith which tells us angels don't enter a house where there are pictures. You can look into full hadith about things that stops angels from entering our houses.
If you follow these simple steps, insha Allah your laziness will be gone soon.
        Salam and take care.
