Wondering about abortion?

Aborting a child is not only socially or morally wrong but also haram in Islam unless practised for right reasons

Assalamoalaykum. I have 3 daughters by 3 c-sections. Now I am fourth time pregnant by mistake. My husband doesn't want to continue this pregnancy, coz in last delivery I got complications. I was very anaemic and needed blood transfusion as well. Now I have knee problems as well. I can't read salah by standing. So can we abort this baby? It's just beginning. Please answer me.

  1. Sister pls go and get a proper fatwa for this. Wherever you live seek out the most senior scholar (who is trusted amongst the people) this is a very serious situation. I pray your health is sustained. My wife is nearly in exactly the same situ. Hard pregnancy (3rd child due in 4-6 week iA) 1st c-section and everyone has been tough but Alhamdulillah. Salaam

Before making a decision, speak with your doctor about the pregnancy and your concerns - there may well be things that your medical team can do to help you stay as well as possible during the pregnancy. For example, there are medications people can take to reduce the risk of anaemia.

While there are situations in which scholars have concluded that abortion could be permissible, these are life-or-death situations. Ask your doctor for their medical opinion on whether the pregnancy would be a risk to your life.

Don't rush to choose abortion - make sure that you have all the information you need from your doctor and from scholars, and make sure that you and your husband can live with the decision you make. Pray istikhara as well - trust in Allah to guide you.

Question: There is a woman who has been unable to conceive; the doctors carried out some tests and discovered the eggs [in the womb] are dead. So they carried out an operation to implant [more] eggs, and now she is pregnant with four [babies]. When the doctors discovered this, they informed her husband. He said that he does not want four, because his wife may become tired and overcome [by the pressure]. So he said remove two and leave [the other] two. The doctors said they will not do that without a fatwa from the noble Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-’Uthaymeen; Keeping in mind that the duration of the pregnancy is three months, is it permissible for the doctors to carry out this operation, since they have put on hold [the operation] until they receive your verdict? [And] may Allaah reward you with good.

Response: Regarding the implanting of the eggs, we shall not discuss it because this [stage] has now passed. As for removing some of that which she is carrying in her womb, and whilst she has apprehensions [in proceeding with all four], then so long as the pregnancy has not passed four months there is no harm in this. However, if the period of four months has passed, then it is not permissible to abort under any circumstances

  4. That's nice, don't abort. Allah had given 4th child accept it. Love it and accept the pain. May this will be the last child be helping to give freedom from hell
    Insaallah

  5. Abortion is murder, your reason is not valid. Ask Allah to help you through this. My goodness where is your faith. Go to the Quran and it will tell you what to do.

  6. There are 3 different Muslim attitudes to abortion:

    1) Some Muslims believe that abortion is wrong (haram) because of sanctity of life, argument that all life is holy and belongs to Allah. and that Allah himself can only give and take away life as Muslims do not have the authority to do so.

    2) However Most Muslims believe that abortion is allowed if the mother's life is at risk because the death of an unborn child is a lesser evil than the death of the mother. Also the Islamic Shariah says the mother's life always takes priority.

    3) But Some Muslim's believe that abortion is allowed up to 120 days of pregnancy, for reasons such as a risk to the mothers health or problems with the unborn child's health. such as: if the child will be born physically or mentally handicapped, if other existing children may be affected etc. According to hadith and Islamic Scholars, abortion up to 120 days of pregnancy is allowed because this is when the fetus becomes a child.

However, Quran teaches that abortion is a sin against god and so is FORBIDDEN (Haram). Muslim's however believe abortion can go ahead if the mother's life is at risk because the mother is alive and has great responsibilities whereas the fetus has not yet received a human personality. In this situation, abortion is far from desirable but is the lesser of two evils.

Muslim's believe that life is a gift from god. No one has life as a right, it is a loan which must be paid back to Allah. No one has the right to end life, whether its because the family are suffering from poverty, or if the child will be born physically or mentally handicapped. Finally the Quran reminds women that on the day of Judgment the aborted infant will want to know from their mothers why they were killed.

The Quran: "Kill not your children for fear of want. We shall provide sustenance for them as well as for you. Verily! [truly] the killing of them is a great sin."

Most Muslims believe that abortion is haram. However it's only allowed if the mother's life is at risk. Life can only be given and taken by Allah, no one else has the right to do so. One more thing, if you can not stand sit. Allah knows best and does not make this religion hard. we do
