  1. Dear nrh, Walaykumsalaam,

It is as the hadeeth states in the image above: ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood (ra) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (sws) say: “Allaah(swt) has cursed the woman who does tattoos and the one who has them done, the woman who plucks eyebrows (al-naamisah) and the one who has it done (al-mutanammisah), and the one who files her teeth for the purpose of beauty, altering the creation of Allaah(swt).”

    (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5931; Muslim, 2125)

It is indeed a difficult thing for many women to avoid doing. And alhumdulillah, there is much reward in refraining from plucking eyebrows as is there punishment in plucking them. So try your best to avoid doing this Sister, come join the bushy eye brow club ; ).

    • This is really haraam?!
What if one plucks their eyebrows for their husband? Like what if a married woman who wears hijab covers her eyebrows when she wears hijab and only lets her husband see them?

  2. Asalamualaikum sisterZ

Thank you for your reply. Yes now I am very clear, after reading the image above and now after reading your comment. I don't mind joining the "bussy eyebrow" because now I doing tawba for all things I have done in my past and now following Islam path and asking forgivness to Allah. And inshallah I believe that if I tawba from my heart and grow strong iman in me I know Allah will reward me peace on this life and life after death.

    Have a good day Amin.

  3. Sorry spelling mistake "bushy eyebrow"

  4. Why is it haraam ? Is it haraam to tidy up the eye brows or just to change their shape? It is difficult to refrain from it as bushy eye brows/unibrows etc make a woman look more manly....is plucking the upper lip haraam too then????

    • And shaving legs?! And other girl things?! Then why can men shave their beards but women can't pluck their eyebrows??

      • Aliyee, shaving of beards is equally haraam. It amounts to changing the creation of Allah Subhaanah.

        • You people are wasting times and abrogating Islam without any guidance from God Almighty.
Such petty things not worth following.Everybody has to answer to God on their faith and their deeds.
Do not tell others to live their lives.Sick and tired of reading such illogical things.Be good to your fellow humans irrespective of caste, religion, creed or race. That will send you straight to heaven.
Peace and blessing of the Almighty be upon all who are being led astray.

          • Lol Azim,

You just also gave your advice on 'how to live life' aswell. If you're so sick and tired of reading 'such illogical things', why do you keep coming back for more?

      • Removing hair is permissible for women except from the eyebrows. So shaving the legs etc is permissible and possibly even good to do if it beautifies you for your husband.
Hair can also be removed from the face but again, not from the eyebrows. In general the scholars have agreed though if someone has a monobrow it is permissible to remove hair from between the eyebrows to seperate the brows. But only on that condition.

A few scholars have also said if the eyebrows are very bad it is permissible to tidy a bit - but it is definietly best avoided as this hadith is quite clear and it is easy to step over the limit.
So avoid it for Allahs sake - I know its hard but its worth the reward. Imagine how beautiful will be in Jannat InshaAllah.

  5. Assalam o alykum wr wb

@Aliyeee ya Allah WHO SAID THAT MAN CAN SHAVE BEARD? ITS HARAM FOR MAN TO SHAVE BEARD .just think before you speak out of grudge.

Yes women CAN REMOVE HER OTHER BODILY HAIRS BECAUSE ITS ENCOURAGED TO BE CLEAN FOR THERE HUSBAND AND THEMSELVES. AND BEAUTIFY

In line to eyebrows there is clear authentic hadeeth not to pluck ,shave eyebrows of any sort.. because it comes under amending the allahs creation .. EVEN IF HUSBAND DEMANDS. IF THE HUSBAND DEMANDS HARAM IT DOESNT BECOME HALAL.

regarding upper lip MOST OF THE WOMEN do not get upper lip hairs kinda bushy one. if do they get they can pluck it because it doesnt change the adjective of a women.and also ur husband will be please not to see hairs on upper lips and that is halal .

REMEMBER THE BEAUTY DOESNT COME FROM OUTER EMBELLISHMENT RATHER FROM INSIDE and its Allah swt who will bless our faces with noors and enlighten it .

    • I'm not speaking "out of grudge". It was a mere assumption. I'm a new Muslim and I've seen many Muslim men with no facial hair (because they shaved it)

  6. @aliyeee
Maybe it will help you if you take out se tome and read it inshallah.

  7. men shouldnt shave their beards because thats sunnah of the prophet right? but they are allowed to tidy up the beard...in the same way are women allowed to make their eye brows look neater because that would also allow beautification for their husbands? Women are alllowed to remove hair from any other part of the body, i just wondered why specifically it is an issue with eye brows?

    • not just because its a Sunnah but becauuse it is a command of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi wasallam to leave the beards and trim the mostaches. Regarding tidying it up, there is a difference of opinion among the Scholars. Many say one should let the beards be, (and I say if they do this, the beard will stay tidy). Others including Shaikh Albaani Rahimahullah say that beard can be trimmed to one fist length. So, with conviction, follow any of these.

And we are Muslims. We hear and we obey. If we do not understand, we do not ask why. Allah knows, while we do not.

  8. Sorry for my another spell mistake " sometime"

  9. To the commenters, take the hadith at face value and accept it. The Prophet (sws) said that plucking the eyebrows is haram, so accept that and don't do it; and the Prophet (sws) stated the reason in the hadith, so why ask "why"?

  10. Asalaam alaikum,

Hanafi jurists differ on the viewpoint expressed here with modifications and allowances.

    http://qa.sunnipath.com/issue_view.asp?HD=1&ID=14929&CATE=239
    http://qa.sunnipath.com/issue_view.asp?HD=1&ID=4427&CATE=90
    http://qa.sunnipath.com/issue_view.asp?HD=1&ID=55&CATE=90

If we do not understand, we study and venture on the path of knowledge with humility. The question of "why" is pertinent inside all of us and is established as part of our fitrah, though worldly arrogance can corrupt it. Yet, with humbleness, it is a means to get closer to Him and flourishes when we realize that Allah (swt) guides us as we seek Him through understanding. The reason for this is that through it, we can gain contextual perspective which is superior to blind following.

Allah (swt) wants Muslims to reach the level of certainty. That only comes through searching through the "whys."

  11. Assalaumu aliakuam brothers and sisters,

Can I also add that plucking the eyebrows is also one of the 'kabir' (major sins of islam) and we must try as much as possible to stay away from this and trust Allah swt for the reasoning for not allowing us to do so. As muslims we need to take on the role of 'we hear and obey' rather than question the 'why's' of the Almighty and Rasuol's (pbub) rules and teachings. Allah bless us on the correct path ameen ya rab.

Can I also ask a question on this topic as I too get scared to trangress the limits of the eyebrows. Once I found out it was one of the major sins I left it but when I watched Sheik Assim L. Alhakeem's lecture online he said that we can pluck the middle hairs on top of the nose (middle of eyebrows) as this was not part of the brow, can i ask your throught brothers and sisters on this, even sisters what do you do? I completely have not touched the brows but the middle I do take off but I am not too sure if this is even permisible. Please I hope someone can shed some light on this part so we can not trangress the limits inshallah.

Allah keep us on the right path and increase us in all in correct knowledge.

    Jazakakarallah,

    Your sister

    • Wa 'alaikum as Salaam Wa Rahmatullah

SisterR, Alhamdulillah, we hear and we obey (سمعنا ‏
واطعنا)

Shaikh Asim was right. This has been the opinion of majority of the 'Ulama. A woman has the right to beautify herself for her husband, Alhamdulillah.

To sitisfy yourself, read the following fatwa from the Permanent Commitee for Fataawaa which consists of Major (Kibaar) Scholars:

      The Committee was asked:

What is the Islamic ruling on plucking the hair between the eyebrows?

      They replied:

It is permissible to pluck it, because it is not part of the eyebrows.

      (Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 5/197)

      The Standing Committee was asked:

What is the ruling on a woman removing hair from her body?

      They replied:

It is permissible for her to do that, apart from the hair of the eyebrows and head. It is not permissible for her to remove the hair of her head or to remove any part of the eyebrows, whether by shaving or any other means.

      Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 5/194

May Allah enable us to follow in the footsteps of His Rasool Sallallahu 'alaihi Wasallam and his Sahaabah Radiyallahu 'Anhum, until we meet Him.
      Aameen
      Wassalamu'alaikum Warahmatullah

      • Jazakakarallah khairan Muhammad,

Ameen to listening to the commands of ar-rahman (swt), following the footstops of rasool'allah (saws) and the sahaba (ra) until we meet them bi izin il lah.

Thanks for the prompt reply with backed up references.

May Allah swt reward and guide us all.

        Salamat,

  12. Asalamualaikum,

@Professor X, the link you posted are good I read all of them but I got confused in one think if it's possible please will be good for me if you can explain in easy way to me. I want to understand I dontcwant to read only alsocwant to understand correctly. I will paste the part I didn't understood.

    That is " Husbands Permission
As for the special case of a husbands permission in this regard, it does indeed affect the ruling. Whenever the husband permits her to remove her facial hair, it becomes permissible [h: for her to do so] because he has a [h: shariah countenanced] interest [h: in her doing so], namely: her beautification for him and he has permitted her to do this (Mughni al-Muhtaj, 1.191). One can also infer from this that an unmarried woman may not do that [h: i.e., remove eyebrows or facial hair]."

By reading I understood that if husband want then it's right? Please correct me

    Walaikumasalam

  13. Just for your information:

Sunnipath is a website which actually adheres to deviant sufi aqeedah. Scholar Abu Mussab Wajdi Akkari-who is a staunch advocate of following the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (S) and the ways of the righteous predecessors did research on Sunnipath and declared it to be a follower of deviant sufi creed in the following lecture.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZY8xJaVRxM

  14. lets make it clear. SUNNAH is the habit or practices of the Prophet PBUH. Regarding of shaving beard, IT IS NOT HARAM. it is SUNNAH. if you do it, you get reward, if you dont, no reward nor SIN. Same goes to sunnah fasting. if you dont fast on monday, you wont get punishment right.

Dont get confuse. Islam is not rigid, its flexible. hope you guys have a blessing day. Salaam.

    • miya, "Sunnah" is a confusing term for some because it is sometimes used to describe all the actions of the Prophet (pbuh), and sometimes used to describe actions which are voluntary in Islam, not required.

The correct understanding is that the Sunnah encompasses the sayings, actions and approvals of the Prophet (pbuh), some of which are required in Islam (fard, wajib), and some of which are not.
