I fear the Hereafter and feel that it is approaching

Strive for the Hereafter

The Hereafter

ASA everyone!

Lately I have been so worried about " the end of the world".

I know it sounds stupid and Islamically speaking nobody knows when the end is coming but Allah (swt) but you hear so much on tv and online. All this information that makes me think, is it really near?

It's getting to the point where I feel why bother to do this or that if we are all going to die by 12/12.

I get so sad looking at my son and thinking I will never see him get old, or get a degree or get married!!

What can I do to help me feel better? Please help!!

  1. Sister it's good that you feel and we all should feel for the end. And also bother , and you should bother because it will be the last chance to ask Allah for forgiveness and earn as much as you can so that your soul will be in peace and Allah will grant you in Janna. because after that THATS it no chance.

You should pray more make more dua to Allah and express your sorrow, sadness and cry to Allah, that's the way you may feel better. Actually I do that , maybe will be helpful.

    May Allah bless you

  2. As Salamualaikum,

Sister, belief in the Day of Judgement is a requirement for every Muslim.

Fearing Allah and facing Him on this Day is very important. It helps make one's Eemaan. If you fear Allah that you'll have to face Him and you are full of sins, it creates a need for Tawbah in your heart. This is how a Mu'min's life should be.

Your fear for the Hereafter is good. And yes, it is approaching fast, very fast. We are lacking far behind in our deeds. We can enter Jannah insha Allah, only by His Mercy. Otherwise, we are doomed.

We should hope that He will forgive us, and simultaneously fear His Punishment. He is al Maalik. To Him belong the Heavens and the Earth. To Him is the Day of Judgement. He is The King and no one dares to talk before Him, until He Permits.

This is Eemaan, which is between Fear and Hope, as Allah's Messenger informed in a Sahīh Hadith.

Additionally, your fear should not exceed the limit. You should not fear it, such that you can not sleep or eat and you can not do prayers properly. This would lead to extremism. And there are ahadeeth that condemn extremism:

‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Those who go to extremes are doomed.” He said it three times. Narrated by Muslim (2670)

    He also said:
'Do not overburden yourselves, lest you perish. People [before you] overburdened themselves and perished. Their remains are found in hermitages and monasteries' (Musnad of Abu Ya'la).

There's another Hadith in which he Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said (which means) do not go to the extremes, but choose the path that is between them. I am however not able to find this Hadith.

For example, we read Quran everyday. Can we complete the Quran in one day?
This is one extreme. Allah's Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam forbade us‎ ‎from completing the Quran in one day.
The other extreme is that one never reads the Quran.
And the path that is between them is that we read the Quran daily, how much we can, with understanding, insha Allah.

So please, do not let this fear ruin you.

    Wassalamualaikum

  3. Salamaliakum,
The last day is approaching fast but it is also said that it will not come till there is one human who will remember Allah(swt) by heart.Mashallah I think there are lots of brothers who are pious.
We should try to do the best in the time we have and be prepared dont think of it too much.Have fun with your son and teach him to be a good muslim.
    Jazakallah

  4. Assalamou 'alaikum

    Dear sister,
You should stop watching TV or surf the web, if that is causing you distress. Also we have the Quran and the sunnah in which these questions are treated.
About the fear you have of not seeing your son grow, know that nobody has the assurance that they will live till the next day, and the next day does not mean the day of Qiyamah.

    JazakAllah Khair

  5. asalamu alaikum,

after reading your post i can understand what you are going through, but you gotta realise people on the net saying stuff like the world gonna end on 12/12 is just nonsense. no one knows when the world is gonna end yet you take another human beings(non muslim) word for it.

instead of thinking about world ending, you should think about death since that is the first step towards akhira. death will come when you least expect it i.e today, tomorrow, cos you might die before 12/12.

therefore practice your deen and always be ready.

    ma salama
