  1. Assalamualaikum wa Rahmatullah green,

I don't have to tell you that music is Haraam, because you already know that. We have evidences from the Quran and the Sunnah that restricts every musical instrument with the exception for duff or hand drum, which is considered to be limited for women by some scholars.

There are the fitan of people who justify their love for music saying it is not Haraam. It is wrong... People also claim to reach spirituality through music, which is a stupidity. Allah's Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam highly disliked music and the position of the people of the Sunnah is that music is Haraam.

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said : "There will be [at some future time] people from my Ummah who will seek to make lawful fornication, the wearing of silk, wine drinking and the use of musical instruments [ma'aazif]. Some people will stay at the side of the mountain and when their shepherd comes in the evening to ask them for his needs, they will say : 'Return to us tomorrow'. Then Allaah will destroy them during the night by causing the mountain to fall upon them, while He changes others into apes and swine. They will remain in such a state unitl the Day of Resurrection."

Concerning your question, there is a difference between hearing and listening. If people listen around you, you do not have to cloae your ears, but just do not listen. But if you do listen sometimes, just say Astaghfirullah and come back to Allah. Forgetfulness is a part of life and even mistakes. Allah Will Forgive us for them, in sha Allah.

Concerning the harms of music, I know that it has psychological effects. And it also deviates a person from the path of Allah. It becomes an addiction that one can't do without, even listens to it in place of the Quran and during the Adhaan. It becomes an illness, illness of the heart that makes it dead. I have an expert who has been in this field for a long time admitting this. Do you see the image above? It is brother Aamir Muhaddith, who used to be a rap artist named 'Loon'. He accepted Islam and explains how bad music is. Watch this video:

    http://www.tubeislam.com/video/6745/Interview-Former-Rap-Artist-Loon-accepts-ISLAM-TheDeenshow

This video is also downloadable here: http://tubeislam.com/flvideo/6745.flv

Alhamdulillah, what our Rasool gives us is sufficient because Allah Said:

    وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوا ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَاب
And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.
    Surah 59, Aayah 7

Keep yourself away from music to the extent possible. But whatever is not under your control, you are not responsible. So trust in Allah and do what is right.

    • What you are saying is completely wrong. God gave humans the gift of making music, and some of the greatest music ever composed was to praise God.

The beautiful religious music of Bach,Handel,Schubert, and many others was written to illustrate the glory of God.

All those lovely church hymns carols and religious chants are there to demonstrate the wonder of God.

How can it be evil to praise God?

This kind of music is doing the same as what religious poetry does.

      It praises God.

Do you really want a world without such beautiful music?

If you do, then I feel sorry for you.

Why don't you just condemn the music that YOU feel is wrong, not ALL music.......think about it.

  2. El sistema is basically an industry to promote music in Venezuela isn't it ?

Allah said: “And there are among men, those that purchase idle tales, to mislead (men) from the path of Allah and throw ridicule. For such there will be a humiliating punishment” (Surah Luqman, V. 6).

The great Companion Abd Allah ibn Mas’ud (Allah be pleased with him) states in the explanation of the word “idle tales”:
“By Allah its meaning is music” (Sunan al-Bayhaqi, 1/223 & authenticated by al-Hakim in his Mustadrak, 2/411).
Imam Ibn Abi Shayba related with his own transmission that He (Ibn Mas’ud) said:
“I swear By Him besides whom there is no God that it refers to singing” (132/5).
The great Companion and exegete of the Qur’an, Abd Allah ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) states:
“The meaning of the word is music, singing and the like” (Sunan al-Bayhaqi, 1/221& Musannaf Ibn abi Shayba, 132/5).
    He also stated:
“Music and the purchase of female singers” (Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba, 132/5).
Hasan al-Basri (Allah be pleased with him) said:
“This verse was revealed in relation to singing and musical instruments” (Tafsir ibn Kathir, 3/442)
The same explanation has also been narratedfrom Mujahid, Ikrima, Ibrahim Nakha’i, Mak’hul and others (Allah be pleased with them all).
The above verse of the Qur’an, along with thestatements regarding its meaning is clear in the prohibition of music. It also serves as a severe warning for those who are involved in the trade of music in any way, shape or form, as Allah warned them of “Humiliating punishment”.

Sayyiduna Abu Malik al-Ash’ari (Allah be pleased with him) reports that he heard the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) say: “There will appear people in my Ummah, who will hold adultery, silk, alcohol and musical instruments to be lawful” (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Abu Malik al-Ash’ari (Allah be pleased with him) narrates a similar type of Hadith, but a different wording. He reports that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: “Soon there will be people from my Ummah who will consume alcohol, they will change its name (by regarding it permissible. m), on there heads will be instruments of music and singing...” (Sahih Ibn Hibban & Sunan Ibn Majah, with a sound chain of narration)

Imran ibn Husain (Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: “This Ummah will experience the swallowing up ofsome people by the earth, metamorphosis of some into animals, and being rained upon with stones”. A man from amongst the Muslims asked: “O Messenger of Allah! When will this be?” He said: “When female singers and musical instruments appear and alcohol will (commonly) be consumed” (Recorded by Imam Tirmidhi, Imam Ibn Majah in their respective Sunan collections).

Sayyiduna Ali ibn Talib (Allah be pleased with him) reports that the blessed Messengerof Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: “When my Ummah begin doing fifteen things, they will be inflicted with tribulations, and (from those 15 things He said): “When female singers and musical instruments become common” (Sunan Tirmidhi)

Therefore Music is haraam no doubt. It has many harms.

Music has effects on one’s emotions, creates arousal, passion and excitement, and also leads to various physiological changes in the person like those mad people who acts crazy while listening to metallica. It is a psychological proven fact that two things are instrumental in arousing the human sexual desire, one being the voice of a female (for males) and the other music.
This is the reason why Allah Most High says:
“O wives of the prophet! You are not like other women, if you are god-fearing. So do not be soft in speech. Lest in whose heart is disease should be moved with desire.” (Surah al-Ahzab, v. 32).

One of the harms of music is that it distracts one from his Creator. It serves as a temporary means of pleasure and satisfaction, which makes one forget who he really is and why he was created.
Human has been created for a noble purpose. Allah Most High says:
“I have created jinn and humans only that they serve (worship) me” (Surah al-Dhariyat, 56).
Music and temporary entertainments sink the human in physical pleasures and prevent him/her from true spiritual gains.
Another harm of music is that it instills the ideologies of the Non-Muslims in the heart and mind. The messages of today’s music follow a general theme of love, fornication, drugs and freedom.
We find that the whole world is obsessed with the Kufr idea of unrestrained freedom, i.e. freedom of speech and movement, etc songs like " you belong with me ", " this is my life " etc It is used as a means of drilling western ideologies into the hearts and minds, which are totally contrary to Islamic values and teachings.

But Islamic nasheeds and others which give advices and wisdom without musics is allowed.

    Pray and repent.

  3. Salam brothers,

DO you know what the ruling is regarding watching tv, films with some music in it just for entertainment. keeping in mind person is not being aroused or having bad ideas it is just for chilling out.

    Jazakallah

    • TV !! Tv just for chilling out ? Wow, there's so much more behind the scene sister.

I've studied public analysis and its doesn't look good.

Leave Islamic ruling aside for now. We'll get back.

To promote vice and prevent virtue, to promote modern western ideology, to promote corruption, to dent religious knowledge and its teaching, to express illusionary freedom, to promote female exploitation (liberation), to promote differences and division, to promote Islamphobia, to corrupt children mind, promotion of materialism etc etc. Think about it, How would they instill these sinister above points in our mind ? How would they do it even without us realising ? What is the most efficient and effective way to control the world ? Simple answer - MIND CONTROL.

One form of dictatorship is being in a prison where you can see the bars and the otherone is sitting in a prison but you can't see the bars.
The human race is suffering from ' MASS HYPNOSIS '. We are being hypnotised by news readers, politicians, teachers etc. We are living in a world where the people who run the medias, entertainment, movie industry etc are unbelievably sick people. The greatest hypnosis on planet earth is a small box in the corner of the room, it is constantly telling us what to believe is real for the sole purpose of indoctrinating us through mind control.
We think we have the freedom to think, freedom of choice etc, but NO we don't. We don't do critical thinking, they do it for us. To rule over the critical thinkers/religious personnel they need us to have their corrupted views. People who know nothing will stand for anything.

Tv is filled with subliminal messages, reverse psycology etc. We think our children are watching innocent cartoons, but these cartoons have reverse psycology in it designed to spoil the minds. Do your research to know what i'm talking about.

      1. Excessive Violence
It has long been known that television fosters violence.

      2. Horror
As themes of media content, violence and horror are similar, but not quite the same. Horror shows the gruesome effects of violence or any other destructive process. Why then would anyone find horror entertaining?

      3. The Cult of Beauty
From the beginning, television has labored mightily to convince viewers that they need to make themselves more attractive. It has offered up a ceaseless stream of ads for hair care products, shaving blades and creams, body soaps, deodorants, and a host of other products designed to enhance the feel, the smell, or the look of the human body.
In the effort to attract viewers and sell products, television and the other visual media constantly offer a gallery of the world'smost beautiful people. A modern man sees more world-class female beauty in a single day than his forefathers saw in a lifetime.
As a result of the media's relentless campaign to promote body consciousness, people today are more obsessed with beauty than ever before. But the cult of beauty brings dry rot to the moral foundations of society.

      4. Preoccupation with Sex
The Saturday lineup of programs for children and teenagers has adopted the goal of heightening their sexual awareness as much as current standards of decency will allow.

      5. Encouragement of Unhealthy Habits
Pediatricians complain that the media, especially television, are a prime causeof smoking, drinking, and drug use among adolescents

      6. Modeling of Uncivil Speech and Conduct
The talk on television offers almost no relief from uncivil speech. If everything were pared away that is rude, loud, boastful, hostile, insulting, boorish, naughty, disrespectful, manipulative, or unkind, hardly anything would remain. A bad mouth dominates children's programs and just gets louder in adult programs.

      7. Hindrance of Intellectual Development
The doctors' chief objection to television is that it stunts intellectual growth. A close connection between TV-viewing and academic performance has seemed probable ever since SAT scores dropped sharply in the late 60s and throughout the 70s.

      8. Suppression of Better Activities
Before television, people spent theirtime at home in wholesome activities. Families worked together, played together, went on picnics or to the lake, took pleasure rides through the country, strolled through the woods and fields.

      9. Promotion of Materialism
Television is a commercial medium. It gives the viewer entertainment at a price—the price being to sit and watch an endless procession of mindless commercials. The evil in these commercials is twofold.

      • 10. Generation of Discontent and Escapism
A happy life according to television is life in the fast lane—a life shared with fashionable people, cradled in wealth, and devoted to self-indulgence. We no doubt can agree that this is not really the good life. But is it even possible? How many people live like most of the characters they see on television? Very few. Most people who watch television must be somewhat discontent with their lot.
Most women looking across the room at their husbands, and most men looking across the room at their wives, can see that life has not given them a partner with the glamour and charm of a media star. Perhaps here we have one reason the institution of marriage is crumbling.
The average viewer comparing himself with the television characters he admires will judge himself inferior in many other ways as well. He is poorer, less popular and influential, less witty and bold, and so on.The result? Fantasy becomes more satisfying than real life.

Pre-marital relationship, agent of fornication, driking alcohol if stress etc are all propagated to destroy ignorant muslims. This is why, this generation is the worst period corrupt period generation the world has ever had period. This is prophecy is foretold by our Prophet. Our Islamic knowledge is disappearing whereas we are aware of the upcoming new movies. Many people can name atleast 10 actors and actress, but not much knows about the names of the prophet wives or the names of Allah etc. Due to watching movies, some people often think of it while praying. Very bad indeed. Spiritual soul is vanishing.

Watching tv or films etc is not permissible because of things such as uncovering ‘awraat, listening to music, spreading corrupt beliefs and calling for imitation of the kuffaar. Now we cannot tell there are good movies. All movies are sinister or atleast has some percentage of filth.

Prophet began a saying by mentioning the zina of the eye is looking because this is how the zinaa of the hand, foot, heart and private parts begins. This hadeeth gives the clearest indication that the eye can sin by looking and that this is its zinaa.

A look has the same effect on the heart as an arrow has on its victim. If it does not kill him,it will wound him. It is like a spark of fire in dried grass; if it does not burn all of it, it will still burn some of it. May Allaah have mercy on the one who said:
“Everything starts with a look, and big fires start from little sparks.

To conclude TV is a dangerous device and its harmful effects are very great. We know from the research that has been written about it that it is dangerous and very harmful to Islamic beliefs (‘aqeedah), morals and the state of society. This is because it includes the presentation of bad morals, tempting scenes, immoral pictures, semi-nakedness, destructive speech, and Kufr. It encourages imitation of their conduct and ways of dressing, respect for their leaders, neglect of Islamic conduct and ways of dressing, and looking down on the scholars and heroes of Islam. It damages their image by portraying them in an off-putting manner that makes people despise them and ignore them. It shows people how to cheat, steal, hatch plots and commit acts of violence against others. Undoubtedly anything that produces so many bad results should be stopped and shunned, and we have to close all the doors that could lead to it. If some of our brothers or sisters denounce it and speak out against it, we cannot blame them, because this is a part of sincerity towards Allaah and towards other people.
Whoever thinks that TV can be free of these evils and can be used only for good purposes if it is censored properly is exaggerating and is making a big mistake, because the censor may miss things and most people nowadays want to imitate the foreigners. It is very rare to find censors who are doing their job properly, especially nowadays when most people are only interested in time-wasting entertainment and things that turn people away from true guidance. Reality bears witness to that.

We pray that Allah guide us, open our heart, mind and eyes. We pray for Him to forgive us the sins we've committed ignorantly. We pray to increase our knowledge. Ameen.

    • Wa Alaikum as Salam sister,

The issue of music is clear that it is Haraam. But concerning TV, I read Shaikh Albani say that it is Haraam in today's scenario as most of what is broadcasted is a tool of Zina or something that leads a person a step closer to Zina, while Allah Says:

      وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا الزِّنَا ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ فَاحِشَةً وَسَاءَ سَبِيلًا
And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way.
      (Al Isra', 32)

He also says that if the TV was predominantly used for broadcasting deeni shows and for da'wah, then it would not just be permissible, but obligatory.

Concerning movies, what is not against the Sharee'ah and no harm, no fitnah maybe watched, but it is difficult to find such programs. All that a movie promotes today is immorality, Zina and materialism. It takes a person away from Allah and His Remembrance.

Watching what is in line with the Sharee'ah is watchable per me. I see my mother and my sister watch a TV channel to learn new recepies and I sometimes turn the National Geographic channel, Animal Planet and others to learn the unknown Creation of Allah and Glorify Him Subhaanah. There is music in most of these programs. Then again, there is a difference between listening to it and hearing it.

We should avoid what is Haraam and what has no good in it. Movies, soaps and the like are undoubtedly harmful for the families, societies as a whole. We should never give into such evil.

  4. Thankyou so much for responding. Really appreciate

I Can easily understand how easy it is for people to get brainwashed by tv and think only about the world. But i have also heard that if we do something which persuades are mond to go away from islam and think about bad things we should stop it. but if we can control ourselves and dont havre any bad effects then it is ok.

but dont know if its true to everything. from my opinion i see fitna all around us living in de wesyern world . you always come accross half naked people in the street school work etc. the tv is just a continuation of whays already around us. like most of de kids in my sons school are non muslom. i have to consyantly explaon to him that our life is different to theirs. he can play and talk to them and do anything which doesnt go against islam. but anything going against islam he shpuld not involve or he should say no. . they understand our values and never say why or anything. so we dont have a problem wiv it.

its surprising you say spouces compare their partner with tv characters. but actually i find they compare with reall people! when my husband was with me he used to always compare my beauty or phisic to his brothers wives or cousins but never tv. because people know that lifestyle lpoks arr fake. then you get muslim husbands who want their wifes to dress sexy etc cause they say woman outside dressed like thay and get entertained. these days de actual reality around us is the worst fitna so the tv does not introduce anythink new to me and my kids. if we lived in a muslim country then definitly will have these harmful effects.

but i understand how people with a weak mind can get easily brainwashed.

    • It is true. May Allah Protect us all from the evils of Music, TV, Movies and all idle talk.

I think your sons should watch the interview with brother Amir Muhaddith I have mentioned above.

    • This may/may not be true, differs with cases I believe. But with regards to TV, I doubt this will be true. Let me define ' mind control ', The most insidious threat to our basic freedoms, such as freedom of mind, freedom of speech, is a little-known phenomenon known as mind control. "Mind control" refers to all coercive psychological systems, such as brainwashing, thought reform, and coercive persuasion. Mind control is the shaping of a person's attitudes, beliefs, and personality without the person's knowledge or consent. Mind control employs deceptive and surreptitious manipulation, usually in a group setting, for the financial or political profit of the manipulator. Mind control works by gradually exerting increasing control over individuals through a variety of techniques, such as excessive repetition of routine activities, intense humiliation, or sleep deprivation.
Satan implemented his mind control scheme on the human race along time ago. Dumbing us down using various mediums.

Satan is a " Clear enemy ", Allah said.

"O Children of Adam let not Satan tempt you, as he removed your parents from paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts, indeed he sees you, he and his tribes, from where you do not see them. Indeed we have made the devils, allies to those who do not believe" (Al-A'raf : 27 )

"And deceive whoever you can among them with your voice, and assault them with your horses, and foot soldiers, and become a partner in their wealth, and their children, and promise them. But Satan doesn't promise them except delusion" (Al-Isra’: 64 )

Prophets said to Iblis, "By what did you defeat the son of Adam?” He said, "At the time of anger and at the time of desire".

"He (Satan) promises them and arouses false desire in them, but Satan doesn't promise them except delusions" (An-Nisa’: 120)

"… But I had no authority over you except that I invited you, and you responded to me, so don't blame me, but blame yourselves…” ( Ibrahim : 22 ).

" And indeed they avert them from the way of guidance while they think that they are rightly guided. The worst that the companion or the devilish companion would do is to avert someone from the truth. And not allow them to wake up to find out the truth, rather deceives him and makes him think that heis on the right path until painful fate and destiny takes him by surprise " ( Az-Zukhruf: 37)

"O Mankind indeed the promise of Allah is the truth so let not worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allah by the deceiver (Satan). Indeed Satan is an enemy to you so take him asan enemy. He only invites his party to be among the companions of the blaze" ( Fatir: 5-6 ).

"And do not follow the footsteps of Satan, indeed he is to you a clear enemy. He only orders you to evil and immorality, and to say about Allah what you do notknow" (Al-Baqarah : 168-169)

Therefore, I would take measures to stay away from TV, infact I've ditched mine long ago with no problems. Even if there are very few Islamic channels, the great number of channels are evil. Bad greatly outweighs the good. One great Imam said " This is the very same reason why wine was made Haraam. Wine in itself holds many benefits aswell as many harms because of wine holding more evil and harm than the good it contains, it was declared Haraam in the Shari’ah. The same law applies to ‘Muslim TV’ apparently it may seem good as it contains the recitation of the Qur’aan and Islamic discourses, etc. However, the evil of it exceeds the good by far".

Modern western civilization started around 17th or 18th century. It wasn't able to reach all corners of the world at all. But when TVs came into existance in the 19th century, it was easy for the world to learn the new attractive corrupt civilization visually. Therefore, tvs in developing or underdeveloped countries plays a vital role in corrupting majority of the people than the developed countries, already corrupt environment.
As we already know that, tv in the west plays a continual role of spoiling people further ( Islamphobia etc ) because the environment is already evil, unlike in middle east or elsewhere, the environment is somewhat clean, TV plays critical role in corrupting minds of ignorant muslims and non as well (like comparing with actors etc). Leave aside muslim, it was a non-muslim who started to say, tv is such a filth and a brainwashing box. In your case, since your environment is already evil, it would be a bad idea to participate in tv evil for entertainment. Evil evil=evil sq., it would be best to have more sunnah type home. Good for kids too. Your kids can more clearly differentiate between good and evil.
TV affects children greatly only by watching cartoons. It has subliminal messages and reverse psycology used big time. Research about it.
May Allah protect us from evils of satan. Ameen.

My advice to you is to use the brain that God gave you- and stop trying to promote lies about the Koran......................

        • Marek,

Islam relies on Quran and Hadith for evidences. If you do not understand Islam, please avoid talking about it until you learn it from its correct sources (the Quran and the sound Hadith). Thanks!

  5. Salaams,

While there are certainly limits and admonishments on the types of entertainment a Muslim is permitted to engage in, I think it's safe to say that none of us live in a vacuum. There is no need to be overly legalistic or sterile about the approach to music.

While certain instruments are haraam, and women are forbidden from singing in front of men, no one can say melody itself is haraam. Birds sing, and it's natural for humans to want to sing. We all know that the Medinians sang songs about the high status of Prophet Muhammad SAWS when he entered their city. Not only that, but there are several hadith which discuss the occassions and instances where celebrating with music is permitted or accepted:

Al-Bukhari reported in his Sahih in "The Book of Marriage", under "The Chapter of Beating the Drum During the Wedding and the Feast": Bishr b. al-Mufaddal told us that Khalid b. Dhikwan said: "Al-Rabi' bint Mu'awwdh b. Afra' said: 'The Prophet came to me after consummating his marriage with me and sat down on my bed as you are sitting now, and small girls were beating the tambourine and singing in lamentation of my fathers who had been killed on the day of the battle of Badr. Then one of the girls said: 'There is a Prophet amongst us who knows what will happen tomorrow'. The Prophet said: 'Leave this talk and say what you were saying before'".

Al-Bukhari also reported in his Sahih in "The Book of Struggles", in "The Chapter on Tambourine", as well as Muslim in "The Book of The Two 'id Prayers" "The Chapter on Permission of Games in which there is no Sin [involved]":

On the authority of 'A'isha who said: "The Prophet of Allah (S.A.W.) came to my house while two girls were singing beside me the songs of Bu'ath (a story about the war between the two tribes of the Ansar, i.e. Khazraj and Aws). He reclined on the bed and turned his face to the other side. Abu Bakr came and scolded me saying: 'The instrument of Satan in the presence of Allah's Apostle?' The Prophet of Allah (S.A.W.) turned towards him and said: 'Leave them'. When he became inattentive, I waved the two girls to go away and they left'".

On the authority of 'A'isha who said: "It was the day of 'id when Negroes used to play with leather shields and spears. Either I requested the Prophet of Allah or he asked me: 'Would you like to see the display?' I replied: 'Yes'. Then he let me stand behind him and my cheek on his cheek and he was saying: 'Carry on, O Banu Arfida'. When I got tired, he asked me: 'Have you had enough?' I replied: 'Yes'. He said: 'Let us go'".

Al-Bukhari narrates in his Sahih in "The Book of Marriage" in "The Chapter on The woman looking at the Ethiopians and others without any Doubt" that 'A'isha said: "I saw the Prophet (S.A.W.) covering me with his rida (upper garment) while I was looking at the Ethiopians play in the masjid until I got bored. Imagine how a young girl desires such entertainment".

Similarly, Muslim narrated in his Sahih in "The Book of the 'Id Prayers", in "The Chapter on The Permission of Entertainment" from 'A'isha who said: "The Ethiopians were playing on the day of 'id (i.e., they were dancing) in the masjid, and the Prophet (S.A.W.) called me, and I put my head upon his shoulder and I began to look at their games until I had had enough of watching them".

Just like anything, moderation is the key. Of course we are to avoid what is clearly haraam, but there are many Muslim artists today who produce nasheeds in acapella or with percussion only. Maher Zain compiles two versions for each of his songs: the instrumental version and the acapella/percussion only version. I don't think someone has to forgoe music entirely to stay on the safe side of their deen when they can listen to halal versions and compilations that are currently available.

Some Muslims seem to shun anything creative, and advise others not to draw anything (even though animate images are the only forbidden objects), never to write any poetry (even though the Qu'ran itself is beautifully poetic), not to sing or dance or immerse oneself in any creative outlet even though we humans were made with highly creative attributes which need proper expression.

What every Muslim should remember is that we are not to kill or erase our nafs, but bring it into submission. We do that by keeping it within proper bounds, but not by stuffing it into a thimble. Let's take care not to throw babies out with the bathwater.

  6. Yes, as I said above, only daff/hand drum/tambourine is allowed, though aome scholars limit its use to women in their gathering.

Apart from this, singing, when done without musical instruments and in praise of Allah, and for purposes other than what include Haraam (such as a lover singing about his or her 'love').

In some cutures, marriage day is a day when they use the tambourines to express joy. They also sing for the man and the woman being married.

  7. Regarding music and its lawfulness, Kamal El Mekki has given a comprehensive lecture titled The End of Music. You can listen to the lecture below:
