Can I do salaatul istikhara to know whether to take medicine or not?

Viagra pills

Salaam brothers and sisters,

Here is my question: Is it possible to perform salaat isthikara to know whether to take a medication or not? Since I am in the medical field, and I know very well that the medication may or may not work for that particular disease, it's like gambling and a lot of side effects are accompanied with it. Thanks in advance.

  1. Salaams,

Istikhara can be made for any issue that you are seeking Allah's guidance on, so if you want to do it to determine if you should take this medicine or not, then do so. I think it also may help for you to talk to other doctors and professionals about the medication, as well as any patients who have taken it to see what their experience was. Fortunately, if you end up trying the medication and it doesn't have the effect you are seeking or the side effects are troubling you too much, you can always stop taking it.

  2. Salamualaikum

Adding to Amy's point, if you do the Istikhaarah and it is not good for you, then you'll see that the medication will not happen (provided you have full faith in Allah regarding the Istikhaarah)

    May Allah cure you
