Does Islam allow/consider halal such marriages?

]halal or haram?

Assalamu alaikum,

Please advise me. Does Islam allow any man to marry his step elder brother's (one father but two mother) or step elder sister's grand daughter?

Wasalam,

al Safa.

  1. Salaams,

If you and your brother have the same father and different mothers this would be considered a "half" sibling, not step. "Step" siblings are when there is no blood relation at all, but the siblings are in the same household due to marriage. For instance, if your father married a woman who had a son of her own by a previous marriage, that would be a step sibling.

Based on how I understand what you're saying, the grandchild of your half-brother (or sister) would be your grand-niece. I have not heard of any allowance in Islam where nieces and uncles can marry, despite whether they are one or two generations removed. I also don't think the matter of you being a full blooded uncle or half blood uncle matters either. And Allah knows best.

  2. As Amy said, someone who has the same father as you but a different mother, is not a step-sibling but is a half-brother or half sister. Islamically, a half-brother or half-sister is the same as a full brother or sister, in the sense that a half-brother or half-sister is still your mahrem and your kin.

However, I do not know the law regarding the relatives of a half-brother or half-sister. My recommendation is that you do not consider such individuals for marriage. Look for someone who is not related to you. That is healthier and safer.
