Should I marry him? I’m 22 so I do not want to waste time waiting and seeing
I completed the istikara prayer and didnt not receive not sign or feeling or anything toward the matter I have.
I asked for guidance as to whether I should later get engaged /married to a good friend of mine.
I have known him for a long time and trust he is genuine.
I need some advice on what to do as I dont want to wait around if I get the right signs somehow in a prayer or something.
Then I will know if I should find someone else for marraige or wait .
I'm 22 so do not want to waste time waiting and seeing you see!
Thanks,

Dear-as338-The answer to my Istikhara was unclear. I need advice......
In one or two isthakahar you cant know it has to be continued in tahajud [middle of the night prayer]then fajr prayer for more effective results-till you achieve your reply and the reply is not only as signs seen by you only - It is the positive move from the boys side he may mention to his parents and they might agree and accept you to be daughter in law they readily want to come with proposal to yr house or call and talkj to your parents taht their son likes to marry your daughter like these positive signs are the ones connected with isthakhara-
Quran : Man is created out of haste.....
Man is created out of haste. I will show you my signs; but do not hurry Me.
Salamualaikum,
Sister, how are you going to proceed if he was right for you? Talk to your parents?
Do Istikhaarah with trust in Allah and then proceed with however you plan to. If it is good for you, insha Allah it'll happen. Otherwise, it won't.
If your Istikhaarah does not seem to help, then do it again and again until you have found the solution. This would show that you trust in Allah and you are asking him again and again.
And Allah Knows Best

Brother Waseem, I know that you have to perform 2 rakat namaz (preferably after isha namaz) and then read the Istikara dua but is it ok to go to bed and then wake up to pray fajr namaz? Will this make your Istikara stronger?
Thank you
Sister Saira, there's nothing like that as far as I know.
And you can actually perform Istikhaarah whenever you want, preferably after a Fard prayer (obligatory prayer - any obligatory prayer). Because Allah's Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said:
If anyone of you intends to do something, they should offer a two-Rak‘ah prayer other than the compulsory prayers (after them)
And a dream is not necessary as I mentioned. Allah does what He wants and Guides in whichever way He wants.

So you don't have to pray 2 rakat nafl first then read the dua? Because I read that you have to, after nafl but didn't know you can do it after any fard prayer. Does that mean even after 2 rakat fard for Fajr you can do Istikara?
Sister Saira,
What you read was right. And that's what I meant.
After any Fard prayer (preferably not Asr) or at any other time, you have to perform 2 Raka'at Nafl, then read the Dua by mentioning your need at two places before the words (Khairun li and Sharrun li)
No a Fard prayer can not be an Istikhaarah prayer. It should be separate. And even sunan should be separate from it.
I hope it is clear now 🙂

Thank you! Very clear 🙂
Actually, final question on this (sorry for asking again)...when you mention your need before the two places you mentioned, can you say the need in English and the rest of the dua in Arabic? Can you give me an example of how you'd say it please for example if you were doing it for marriage, so I know how to say it correctly.
Thank again!
Sister Saira, just mention the name of the person, and yes, English would Insha Allah do, if you are asking something else.
And Allah Knows Best

English Transliteration of Du'a Istakhara
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
Dua istakhara
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Hadrat Saad ibn abi-Waqas (r.a.) reported that the Prophet (saws) said, "Istikharah (seeking guidance from Allah) is one of the distinct favors (of Allah) upon man, and a good fortune for the son of Adam is to be pleased with the Judgment of Allah. And a misfortune of the son of Adam is his failure to make ‘istikharah’ (seeking Allah's guidance), and a misfortune for the son of Adam is his displeasure with the Judgment of Allah."
When the Messenger of Allah (saws) had to make any important decision regarding any affair, he would seek the guidance of Allah Subhanah and pray the two-rakah prayer of ‘Istikharah’. ‘Istikhara’ in Shariah terminology means to ask Allah to guide one to the right thing concerning any affair in one's life, especially when one has to choose between any number of permissible alternatives. What it signifies is that the person accepts his ignorance and weakness in the Presence of his Majestic Lord, believes that whatever is going to happen to him will happen with the Permission and Will of his All Mighty Lord, and he declares his absolute humility and submission in the Presence of his Merciful Lord and begs Him to guide him to the right decision.
And that is the basic message of the supplication one does when praying the salaat of ‘istakhara’:
Quoted below is the ‘dua’ or ‘supplication’ of the prayer of ‘Istakhara’ as taught by the Messenger of Allah (saws) to the believers.
English Transliteration of Du'a Istakhara
‘Allahomma Inni Astakheeroka Bi'ilmik. Wa'astaqdiroka Biqodratik. Wa'as'aloka min Fadlikal-azeem. Fa'innaka Taqdiru Wala Aqdir. Wata'lamo Wala-a'lam.Wa'anta-'allamul ghuyoob.
Allahomma In Kunta Ta'lamu Anna (Hathal-Amra) Khayul-lee Fi Deenee Wama'ashi Wa'ajila Amri Wa'ajilah, Faqdorho lee, Wayassirho lee, Thomma-barik lee fih.
Wa'in Konta Ta'lamo Anna (Hathal-Amra) sharrul-lee Fi Deenee. Wama'ashi.Wa'ajila Amri. Wa'ajilaho. Fasrifho 'annee. Wasrifnee 'anh. Waqdur leyal-khayr Haytho kan. Thomma ardini Bih.’
Translation of the du'a:
O Allah! I seek Your guidance (in making a choice) by virtue of Your knowledge, and I seek ability by virtue of Your power, and I ask You of Your great bounty. You have power, I have none. And You know, I know not. You are the Knower of hidden things.
O Allah! If in Your knowledge, (this matter) is good for my religion, my livelihood and my affairs; immediate and in the distant, then ordain for me, make it easy for me and bless it for me. And if in Your knowledge, (this matter) is bad for my religion, my livelihood and my affairs; immediate and in the distant, then turn it away from me, and turn me away from it. And ordain for me the good wherever it be and make me pleased with it.
If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is only ones. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
