My son has tonsilitis and I am confused about his name; please pray for him.

Dua Against Illness

Prophetic Dua Against Illness

My son has tonsilitis.  He takes antibiotics every three months.

Please pray for him.

My son's name is Arham.  Is his name ok, or must I add "Abdul"?

Please reply to me soon.

  1. Salaams,

If your son is taking antibiotics for tonsilitis every three months, perhaps it's time to have his tonsils removed. Tonsilitis is a common childhood illness that usually is treated in this way after one or two episodes of it, so if has been having a chronic course I would recommend that.

Your son's name, Arham, seems to be a uncommonly used derivative of the word/name Rahman, which means compassion or mercy. We most often see this used to describe Allah, as the Most Compassionate or Merciful (Al-Rahman or Al-Rahim). I don't think I've ever heard anyone called Abdul-Arham, and that meaning itself may be incorrect or perhaps offensive (I honestly don't know enough Arabic to know). If you want to change your son's name to something more appropriate, it would be best to change it to Abdul-Rahman.

    • Even with recurrent tonsillitis, it is VERY rare for doctors to remove tonsils anymore, unlike even 20 years ago. Inshallah your son will get relief from his symptoms and perhaps grow out of his condition. My warmest wishes for you both.

  2. When I first read your post, I thought your two questions were supposed to be linked...are they?

I hope they're not, but just incase it is how I thought - that you think his name has any effect on the tonsils, know that that's totally not the case. Lately we've had a few questions like that on the site so if you did not mean that at all then my apologies..just wanted to clarify that point.

As for the tonsils, if it gets recurrent and causes too many problems for him, then you can consider removing it. My nephew had this problem, excessively, and would regularly get bad fevers and sore throats..and the rest of it , you know. From a very young age and that too, repeatedly. So he had his removed and alhamdulillah he is better now.
If your son's isnt that bad, then don't go towards the extreme of removing it. If your in the UK, they wont do it that easily for you anyway.

Inshallah I pray that he recovers soon, Ameen. Dont worry, Allah is more merciful and loves him even more than you do. 🙂

    Was salaam

  3. I'm sorry regarding your son tonslils , as I'm not qualified o would recommend that u communicate with a qualified ENT . Inshallah he would be cured

  4. My son had his removed because every time he had a cold he would get tonsillitis, i think you she see your doctor about this, Antibiotics every couple for months is not doing the job and if he is in school then he's missing so much.

  5. Asalamalaikum,

My daugther aged 7 years has tonsilitis and doctor have kept it under observation, her name is Sadat Fatima,
any specific dua to cure the same.

Please let me know as my elder daughter is 11 years old and she is also suffering from tonsilitis, however doctors didnt mentioned to remove the same. Her Name is Sarwath Fatima.

    Pls help.

  6. Salaam,

(If your son is old enough to do the following)

Do not ignore that good old remedy, gargling with salt water. Take a glass of warm to slightly hot water, add salt to a level where it is uncomfortable to drink (as in, you would never put this much salt in your food). Gargle with the water every morning and evening.

If not old enough to the above, I do think a drink of honey would be of benefit, as described in the hadith (I don't know the exact one).

    May Allah cure him, Ameen.
