My name is Renee, do I need to change it?
Salam,
I wish to know if I need to change my name, Renee. I have lived as a muslim for nine years but I haven´t converted yet, I will because I want to marry a muslim, soon. Please advice me.
Thank you.

Salaam Renee,
Welcome to Islam!
It is not neccessity for you to change your name. Many Muslim reverts will choose to take on a name which has spiritual meaning, significance and relationship to Islam as a mark of their faith - however this is a personal choice. Commonly used names are Amina, who was our Prophet (pbuh)'s mother, or Fatima, who was his daughter. A woman is also commonly named after an honoured character trait such as the name Djamila, which means beautiful.
The surname remains the same. It is not permitted for anyone to claim to belong to anyone other than his father.
Peace,
Leyla
