I want to pray regularly, help!

Offering prayer on their time

Praying in seclusion, without anyone's intervention

Aslaamu alaykum,

I hope you all are fine. I am owais. I want to pray 5 times nimaaz daily, but I can't- even though I am always free. What should I do so I can pray 5 times?
Thank you.

Regular prayer is one of the core pillars of our faith, and as such we need to make extra effort to fulfil our obligations. There's no easy way to magically become regular in your prayers - what you need to do is commit to it and keep trying.

There are plenty of methods people use to help them fulfil their daily prayers. For example, if you have a smartphone, you could download an app that alerts you at prayer times (some of them will even tell you which direction to face as well, which can be useful if you're in an unfamiliar setting). Or, you could set an alarm for each prayer time.

There's only so far such tools can help you though. To become regular in your prayers, you need to be determined to achieve it - don't think "Oh, it's time for Maghrib so I'll pray after this TV show ends" - get up and pray as soon as your chosen tool tells you to pray.

The picture that accompanies your post is one of my favourites on this site - the man in it is clearly dedicated to Islam and focused on his prayer. No matter how busy our lives may be, can they really compare to the devastation around him? If he can pray in the midst of chaos, surely we should all make more of an effort too?

May Allah guide us all to fulfil our obligations and find peace in Islam.

    • AsSalaamu Alaikum Brother Owais, may Allah make you like Owais al-Qarani.

Masha'Allah you have a great name. Owais al-Qarani was a great Wali (servant) of Allah.

I am not going to say much, as all I wanted to say has been said above by Sister midnightmoon. However, I may include that you should find good muslim friends, and abstain from those friends who do not pray nor remind you of your prayers. A true muslim friend will not be shy to tell you the truth. The Prophet (s.a.w.s) said, "The human is on the path of his friend, so let anyone of you be careful when choosing a friend" Allah (s.w.t) also said, "O you who believe! Be conscious of Allah, and be with the sincere (friends)." (Quran 9: 119)

Also, if you haven't yet read anything about Owais al-Qarani, please check the link below, perhaps you may be motivated by it, and learn to become like him Insha Allah

  2. Brother, I am also struggling with this as well. I learned about Islam much later in my teen years and for some reason after many many years still struggle with praying in time.

We all have challenges we have to face, this is our jihad. No matter what happens in every prayer I make I make a dua for Allah to keep me on his path no matter how far I stray.

Never give up hope brother, this is what the shaitan wants you to do, to give up and quite. But know that Allah is the most merciful and if you turn to him in sincerity and get back on track it's always better than giving up. Say yup I messed up that day, but you know what, tomorrow is gonna be better and move on.

It's hard not just for you, but for a lot of others out there, just realize that missing your prayers and praying them late is not good and will be punished in your grave for all the ones you missed. So pray sunnah prayers to insure you are covered.

For me personally, punishment does not motivate me as much as the reward does. I like to think of salat as my way of saying Thank you to Allah for all the blessings I have. It's like 5 times a day, I can talk to Allah tell him thank you and make dua for the things that are floating in my mind.

Allah is merciful and kind, and has given us so much. He doesn't need us to pray to him, we need him which is why we pray.

This is a great lecture that I enjoy when I am feeling a slump in my iman.

    Hope that helps brother.
