I’m not a virgin but am marrying a Muslim

Question mark and female doll

Asalaamualaikum,

I want to congratulate you for the site, you are doing a great job here. I am not a muslim but I felt in love with one. I hope my question won't upset you. We plan to get married this year, but I have a doubt.

I'm not virgin anymore and I know this has a big importance to muslims. We talk about it and he is open minded so he understands. I've been raised in a society that doesn't has this principle and I come from a different world.

But I still need to know someone else opinion's, a person who has the same mentality. I don't want to get hurt later.

Thank you

  1. Maha32,

If your fiance knows that you are not a virgin and is happy to marry you, then what is the problem?

However with regards to Islam, I would like to say this. My understanding is that you have not accepted Islam and you do not follow any other faith either. So if you are willing to marry a Muslim man, what is stopping you from accepting Islam too? It will make your life a lot easier to live. You have not stated to what level you fiance practises his Muslim faith, but I am assuming that since he is happy to marry a non-Muslim, he 'may' not be practising on a sufficient level at all. Many men who marry non-Muslim women tend to feel a sense or urgency to follow their religion as time passes and especially when they have children. This more than often causes problems in the marriage since the wife may not be inclined that way.

    According to Islamic Law:

    - A Muslim man can marry a woman of the Book (a good Jewish or Christian woman) but preferably a Muslim woman. He cannot marry a woman of any other faith or a woman of no faith.

    - When a person accepts Islam sincerely, all their previous sins are forgiven and they begin with a new slate.

So my advice to you is to learn about Islam, accept it sincerely, marry this man and make an Islamic home with him together.
