I want to become Muslim but I don’t know how my family will react?
Hello everyone,
I am 16 years old. A couple months ago, I met a boy. He then told me he recently became Muslim. He was talking to me a little about what the Quran says and I mostly believe everything was true. I know that Allah has to choose you. I believe he chose me when I was in class getting ready to take a final exam and someone in the class asked if they could pray, he's Christian. Then a girl asked "Wait, is anybody in here Muslim?" In my mind I said to myself "I'm Muslim" and when they bowed their heads to pray, I didn't participate at all I just sat there and looked around the room.
I feel like apart of me wants to be Muslim, but I am scared of what my family will think. And if I did become Muslim, I feel like it would break my grandmas heart (she's Christian) because she always asks me to go to church with her and I am basically her only good grandchild all the rest are in and out of jail and etc. Also, I feel like my mother will have a hard time respecting my decision and question me about it. I know for sure I have a lot more to learn but for right now I am going off off what I know so far. I feel like all my life my family automatically made me a Christian without me having a say so.
They automatically put me in a christian pre- school and so on. I never got a choice to explore religions and find out what I really believe, so I've now pronounced myself undecided but I do believe there is a God. I was hoping someone will respond to this and give me some advice on my situation and enlighten me some more on the beliefs, customs, and way of life of Muslims. I also have a lot of questions as well.

Our Prophet, Peace and Blessings be upon him, has informed us that every child is born with the natural disposition, which is Islam. Later, his/her parents make him/her a Christian, Jewish, and so on.
It is not the child's choice, but it is something the parents teach them and the child thinks it is the only way to live.
This is evident in your story. You had no options given. Instead, Christianity was taught to you by default, as your parents are Christian.
My sister, Islam is a Beautiful Religion. It is more beautiful to practice, than to just read and hear about.
You want to know the beliefs, customs, and way of life of Muslims. I'll give you the basic points.
Like any well built building has pillars to hold it, Islam also has 5 pillars, on which one's Islam stands.
The first one is the Testimony that there is none Worthy of Worship, but Allah who has no partner, no son and none like Him, and that Prophet Muhammad is His Servant and His Messenger.
The second pillar is 5 daily prayers. This is a differentiator between a Muslim and a non Muslim. If you see a true Muslim, you'll see that when its time for prayer, he/she will leave all the work, find some space and offer the prayers.
Third is payment of Zakah. Zakah is a charity which is obligatory upon every Muslim to pay, in order to feed the poor and thus eradicate poverty. Though it is a very small proportion, when all Muslims pay, it becomes huge.
Fourth, fasting the month of Ramadan.
And fifth, performing the Pilgrimage at Makkah (for whoever can afford it).
Islam is based on there pillars. How strong a person's Islam is, depends on how strong there pillar are. Moreover, if the pillars are strong, the building stands.
Just like this, faith is also based on six things.
Belief in Allah as One God, Belief in His Angels, His Books (belief that Allah sent down the Torah, Gospel, Psalms, The Holy Quran, but only Quran remains in its Original, unadulterated form), Belief in His Messengers, Belief in the Day of Judgement, that Allah will judge us all one day, and Belief in the Divine pre decree, the good and the bad of it.
Every Muslim believes in all of these. And one can not be a Muslim, until one believes in these.
I think this has given you some idea.
Now, the question is: what should you do?
You should first stop worshipping anything or anybody other than Allah. And avoid going to the Church. If your grandmother asks you to take her to the Church, you can probably make excuses and avoid taking her, too.
You should have firm belief that Jesus Peace be upon him is not God or His son, but was His Messenger. He was the son of Mary, and was born without a father.
Then, seek help from your Muslim friends in learning about the Quran, and get a copy for yourself and read.
As you are only 16, it might be a little difficult. But know that when you have chosen Allah's Path, you'll find Him whenever you want Him. He will Help you. Your family will possibly reduce conversations with you for sometime, but insha Allah, they'll soon be fine. Thus, you can also try to influence your mother to accept Islam.
Whatever be the situation, Islam teaches us to be good to our parents, be they Muslim or not. I would like you to keep this in mind.
If you fear that they will disown you, then you can probably keep your faith a secret, until you are ready to get married, then get married to a Righteous Muslim man. In the process, you can learn from your friends how to offer prayers and do other practices, and do them in secret at home. This would be more easy, if you have a seperate room for yourself, in which you can also read and learn about Islam, offer prayers, and so on.
This is what I think, will work. And Allah Knows Best.

Allah(swt) does not want to make things difficult for you. If your grandmother wants you to take her to the church, then it is your duty to take her. This does not mean that you are disobeying your Creator (Allah).
Islam is a way of life and simply means to submit to the Will of Allah. We believe that everyone has been created by the One Creator - Allah. There is no one like Allah, and He is like no-one. We create no images of Him. We believe that every Messenger/Prophet since the time of Adam, including Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus were all human beings and came to give the same message - that 'God is One' and that our purpose in life is to worship Him alone. Muhammed was also a Prophet/Messenger and was the last of more than some 250,000 Prophets and was hence the seal of the Prophets.
We believe, that also the previous Messengers were given the same message, the message was distorted by the people. But the Quran given to Muhammed (the last Prophet) is the only Book that has not been changed in its written form. People may attempt to change it in other ways, through interpretation and understanding etc, but the original form will never be lost, because Allah promised to Protect it Himself. It has been retained since its revelation over 1400 years ago.
If you believe that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah and that Muhammed is His last Messenger, you are already Muslim. I completely understand that you are scared to tell your family that you are Muslim yet, so I suggest you stay quiet about it till a time comes that Allah gives you a way forward. Who knows, your grandmother may become Muslim one day :). Sounds like a miracle? Well, Allah can make anything happen.
There are some specific acts of worship that a Muslim has to abide by as Waseem has pointed out. At the same time, we need to make sure we are interacting with all people - Muslims and yet to become Muslim in a good manner. We take our laws and examples of our how to live from the Quran and the Sunnah:(ways of Muhammed).
Do you live near any Mosques or Muslim people? Please let us know so we can direct you well insha'Allah. There are also lots of places you can read about Islam on the internet, but some are misleading so it is important that you find the right places.

I dont think this is true sisterz.,, its not the girl's duty to take someone to a place where they would be committing shirk and associating partners or ascribing a son to Allah almighty .. If she becomes muslim, it would be a sin for her to take someone to the place where they would be worshipping others beside Allah.... Unless she doesnt have an alternative, or there's nothing she can do, then Allah is oft forgiven, most merciful... But if she has the ability or alternative ways of preventing her self from taking someone to synagogue or a church, then she must not take anybody to a place where such person would go and be committing shirk..
Also for point of correction, there are 124,000 prophets sent by God to human kind... And not 250,000.

When you are learning about Islam ,and after you accept it, you have no obligation to tell anyone about it. In fact, why don't you just make it easy on yourself and don't concern yourself right now about making any major changes or discussing it with anyone who is not Muslim. Just relax, Islam is easy. Continue and be nice towards your grandmother and family. Take Islam one step at a time.
Please google the nearest mosque to your house. Go their and speak to a muslim sister that you want embrace Islam. InshaAllah, she will help you with open arms.
Please take note that in Islam there is none worthy of worship besides Allah (swt) and Muhammad (pbuh) is the last and final messenger of Allah (swt). Don't let anyone tell you any different to that.
And during your process of learning Islam become friends with good practsing Muslim sisters. Do not become friends with Muslim brother/s, even if you think he could help or bring you closer to Islam. Have your dependency on Allah (swt) only. Read good Islamic books. Learn from trusted Muslim websites. Do the basics that you can do, like stop eating pork, do not drink alcohol, do not mingle with boys or have boyfriend, wear modest clothing (i do not mean the hijab as yet because once your family openly knows about your faith in Islam then gradually practise hijab).
Like I said sister,take one step at a time. Be extremely patient and always seek Allah (swt) guidance.

My dear friend! Its great to know about ur intention of liking the religion of Islam n become a Muslim. Look have many things in my mind to tell u about Islam. U would be amazed by how wonderful this religion is.. the rest of the world will appear nothing in your eyes if you embrace Islam n follow Quraan n sayings of final Prophet SAW. The core belief is the faith with ALLAH, the Trust on ALLAH n His sayings. Its the first step. the second step is to practice the sayings of ALLAH n become a practical Muslim., n do good acts for others to be favorite in eyes of ALLAH. If you do all this you have a lottttttttt more to avail on the day of judgement, that will come after this whole world wil come to an end one day by ALLAH's will, n then each n every person on this earth will see what he has brought with him living in the world. If he is follower of Islam, n practiced the orders of ALLAH. Assalmaolaikum! very good decision! there are lots of peoples converting to ISLAM and without a doubt they are a happy and satisfied people! and sometimes they cry just by thinking to die without Islam! islam is the only and pure religion! you should learn about islam great decision ma shaa ALLAH!
