Islamic marriage advice and family advice

Dua for my potential spouse

The Right Girl

The Right Girl

I am a young Muslim man looking for a wife who is religiously committed. I have prayed istikhara and am waiting for the results. I know a girl who is a friend of  our family which I have grown feelings for ,but she is not very committed. Could I pray for Allah (swt) to guide her so I can marry her. I feel very at ease with her but will not marry anyone who is not following Islam well. This is to blame because I was not following islam fully back then but now I am very keen to follow quran and sunnah and lower gaze and be separate from non mahram. Will this be a dua likely to be answered or  should I try to forget about her?

  1. It's never a bad thing at all to make positive du'a for someone else - on the contrary, it's a really nice thing to do! However, don't make du'a with any expectations of your du'as coming true so you can marry this girl. Allah decides who to guide, and she may not be the one He has decided to guide now, or ever.

Also, please don't ever get married with the idea that once you are married, you can change your wife. There is a really nice quote that truly reflects reality: "Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you will understand what little chance you have of changing someone else".

    • I was going to give similar advice but Leylani summed it up pretty well. He/she has given you good advice, please take it.

  2. Salam Brother,

May Allah grant you and everyone of us who are looking righteous spouse that will be the coolness of our eyes, Ameen. Below is a dua from the Quran for righteous spouse and children.

Wallatheena ya ku loona rabbana hublana min azwaajina wa thuriyatina kurrata aa’yun waj’alna lil mutakeena imaama

And those who pray, “Our Lord! Grant unto us spouse and offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and give us (the grace) to lead the righteous.”
    Quran~Surah Al-Furqan (25:74)
