Islamic marriage advice and family advice

My family don’t want me to marry him because he’s black.

I am in love with a very respectful muslim man. We really want to get married and my family was approving..  Now that they know he is black, they don't even want me to talk about it..  He is so tired of waiting and wants us to be together no matter what.

As a muslim grown up girl I am almost 30 yrs old now. Can I marry myself to this good muslim man? Knowing that my family are not approving just based on the fact that he is black. At the same time, I don't think he is willing to wait for me any longer to get intimate.

  1. Asslamu Alaikum,
First of all, I don't believe that your parents should deny his proposal just because of his skin color, because in Islam, there is no prejudice towards a white or black person, or any Muslim person for that matter. However, you mention that he is a respectful Muslim man, but from the last sentence you wrote, I would have caution with his character if he is unable to wait to be intimate with you if you don't do the nikah. You cannot be intimate with him, or even communicate with him until you do the nikah. So I advice you to try and explain to your parents the situation and maybe get an imam involved and also explain to this man that you will not anger Allah to please him.

    • I noticed that too, but the questioner's English is not that good and Sister Z (an editor on this site) actually "polished it up" a bit, so I thought maybe the questioner had just expressed herself poorly and meant to say that the fellow won't wait to marry her.
