Confused and worried about repentance.

The Door of Allah's Forgiveness is Still Open!

Assalamualaikum
I read on your site that if a person repeats a sin knowing its a sin and thinks Allah will forgive then that's a thought from shaytan but if they continue to sin they will be punished and their repentance is not valid what does that mean can you clarify please does it mean that if a person repents Allah will not accept his forgiveness? A Person did just that - they knowingly sinned and thought Allah will forgive and carried on sinning deliberately. They read this and carried on sinning and didn't repent - does that mean Allah will not forgive the person?

Someone had a thought one day about carrying on sinning and repenting and they kept telling themselves out loud and in their mind " I didn't think this thought" which they know they didn't it was in their mind; anyway one day they started thinking "I didn't think this thought but I do sins and carry on sinning that means that your intention is to carry on sinning and not repent". They were thinking this thought to themselves like speaking to themselves and they carried on sinning deliberately and didn't repent then they thought this again "that means your intention is to carry on sinning and not repent" and they carried on again sinning deliberately. Then they started thinking to themselves "you look for chances to sin and when ever you get the chance you sin" and they carried on sinning deliberately, they thought "you look for chances to do the sin of disrespecting your parents and other sins and you don't repent" and they carried on sinning after thinking this. And didn't repent at all.

Everyday they think this and carry on sinning deliberately. They never looked for chances to sin they just carried on sinning deliberately. They never thought to themselves "when I get the chance I will do this this sin and that sin and think nows my chance to sin" they just carried on sinning and didn't stop and repent. Then they started thinking "your plan is to carry on sinning and not repent" and they carried on sinning and didn't repent and they thought like this again and again and again and carried on sinning deliberately each time.

The problem is that they carry on sinning and dont repent at all. Even after reading what you said about a person who repeats a sin knowing its a sin and thinks Allah will forgive then this is from shaytan and if they continue to sin they will be punished and their repentance is not valid. After reading this they still carried on sinning deliberately and didnt repent. They dont repent at all and sin everyday deliberately - what can they do to stop themselves and start repenting? They get a lot of thoughts about repenting. Even people have told them to repent a lot of times but they didnt each time someone told them to. Somebody told them to leave sins immediately but they carried on. What can they do? They feel Allah will not forgive them because of sinning through out life and not repenting at all.

The Power of Istighfar – Astaghfirullah (I seek forgiveness of Allah)Astaghfirullah
People often forget the importance of the simple yet powerful dua (supplication) – Istighfar i.e., saying “Astaghfirullah” (I seek forgiveness of Allah). Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to recite this at least 100 times a day. Let us see the benefits and virtues of reciting this simple beautiful supplication insha Allah.
Istighfar (Astaghfirullah) is the gateway of relief and happiness. Whenever you are in distress start reciting it and Insha Allah it will take you out of your anxiety and will put you in a peaceful situation and will give you happiness.
Istighfar removes anxiety and duas are answered.
Istighfar opens the door of sustenance.
Istighfar opens the door of mercy.
Istighfar opens the door of knowledge.
Istighfar is also gateway of productivity.
Istighfar relieves you. When you feel that sadness within you, when you are disturbed and frustrated, when anxiety surrounds you, say “Astaghfirullah” “Astaghfirullah”…
Reciting Astaghfiruallah is an effective method of calming our self and wipes away the variety of worldly worries from our mind and body. It may also help us, if we are suffering from depression, it calm us and lessen our depression.
Astaghfirullah also helps us to refrain from all forms of sins. Regularly saying this reminds us that Allah is everywhere and in this way there is very small chances of doing wrongful actions.
Ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said,
“If anyone constantly seeks pardon (from Allah), Allah will appoint for him a way out of every distress and a relief from every anxiety, and will provide sustenance for him from where he expects not.” [Abu Dawud].
EXTREME DUA AND BEGGING FOR FORGIVENESS
The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam, said:
“The master of invocations for forgiveness is that the servant says:‘Allãhumma ‘anta rabbee, lã ‘ilãha ‘illã ‘anta, khalaqtanee, wa ‘anã `abduka, wa ‘anã `alã `ahdika wa wa`dika mastata`tu, ‘a`outhu bika min sharri ma sana`tu, ‘aboo’u laka bini`matika ‘alayya, wa ‘aboo’u bithambee, faghfirlee fa’innahu lã yaghfiru ‘aththunooba ‘illã ‘anta.
O’ my ‘ilãh You are my Lord, there is no ‘ilãh but You. You created me, and I am your bondservant, and I will stick to my covenant and promise [of faith and sincere obedience] to You, as to my ability. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done, I acknowledge, to You, your bounties upon me, and I acknowledge, to You, my sin. Thus forgive me, for none forgives sins except You.
Whoever says this as he enters upon evening, then, dies that night, he would enter Paradise; and if one says this as he enters upon morning, then, dies that day, he would enter Paradise”. [Al-Bukhari]
The servant is always in the blessings of Allah which necessitate thankfulness, and in sinfulness which requires seeking forgiveness.
Both of these matters are required and essential for the servant at all times, as the servant does not cease to alternate between Allaah’s (various) favors and blessings, and does not cease to be in need of repentance and seeking forgiveness.

My understanding is that a key part of repentance is making an effort not to repeat the sin, and feeling sincere remorse for what has happened. I would suggest reading the information provided in the drop-down menu about repentance on this website.

Ultimately, no one can tell you with 100% certainty if your repentance is valid or invalid, as it should be a private matter between you and Allah. Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful, and will know if your repentance is sincere.

  3. asalamu alaikum,

there' a lengthy hadith, Allah(swt) said, even if your sins are compiled like the ocean,
as long as you don't associate anything with Allah, he will forgive them. the door to repentance is open, as long as you haven't seen the angel of death or the rising of the sun from the west.

if you do a bad deed, then follow it up with a good deed.

    ma salama..

  4. AsSalaamu Alaikum Sister Salwa,

You have gotten some good advices which could assure you of the Mercy and Forgiveness of Allah, Alhamdulillah.
Now, you may want to know how to keep steadfast after repentance, so please follow the tips below.

---1--- Refrain from anything that eases the ways of committing the same sins (like friends, places etc).
---2--- Continue keeping yourself in the state that always motivates you to repent (like being conscious of Allah and being fearful of Him)
---3--- Always remember Allah in your daily life activities, and repent to Him even if you didn’t commit any mistake or sin.
---4--- Reckon yourself every night before you go to sleep, and ask Allah for forgiveness. For example, each time you go to bed you ask yourself the following questions:

-1- Did I pray my five daily prayers?
-2- Did I pray my five daily prayers in awe?
-3- Did I volunteer to pray any extra-prayers (nawaafil)?
-4- Did I read anything from the Holy Quran while in awe and meditating, or did I memorize some verses from the Holy Quran?
-5- Did I say my Morning and Evening du'as/azkaar with meditation and Yaqeen (feeling close to Allah), in addition to the appropriate du'a for every act (like du'a for going in and out of the bath room, du'a before/after sleeping, du'a before/after eating, etc.)?
-6- Did I say prayer upon our Beloved Prophet (s.a.w.s)?
-7- Did I pray for my parents and for all Muslims around the world?
-8- Did I fulfilled the rights of others on me (the rights of my family and everyone)?
-9- Did I advise a fellow Muslim sister and helped her to do good deeds and to abstain from bad deeds?
-10- Did I remember death and the agony, plus the torment of the grave (what would have happened if I died in the day, and what is going to happen if I die this night?)
-11- Did I end my day with a sincere repentance and an awe forgiveness, while taking a new covenant with Allah to correct my mistakes, and to improve myself for a better state?

Hope this helps InshaAllah, and may Allah be with you. Ameen!
