  1. Dear Shamim, As-salamu alaykum,

I'm sorry to hear that your son is not well. My daughter is also four years old, and I know how we worry about them at this age, and how much we love them.

I am sure you have taken him to a pediatrician and seen a specialist, yes? This is a very important step and should not be neglected.

If you have taken him, then what did the doctor say? Did he/she do a complete exam?

I'm going to put together a page with some dua' for one who is ill. I'll try to do it tonight Insha'Allah, then I'll post the link here.

  3. Salaams Shamim,

As Wael asked, have your referred to medical experts? As you have not mentioned in your question.

My eldest daughter now 6 years old had a similar problem. She has autism and one aspect of her condition is an aversion to many everyday foods. She also had an egg allergy. I struggled for 2 years to try to get her to eat. I tried all manner of things, giving plenty of what she liked to eat , with the Dr.'s advice allowing her to eat crisps and chips in excess as she liked them. She would only drink lots of milk.

It was a very difficult time as dieticians would give tips on how to present food and incorporate games, but my daughters eating problem was beyond this kind of tactic. I was also told some children just won't eat. This obviously didn't help or make me feel better. I felt a failure as a mother and comments from family members as if I wasn't feeding my child were very hurtful. My child was painfully thin and was not growing.

On a routine check up with her child development paediatrician, my daughter had tonsilitis. The paediatrician remarked that my daughter's tonsils were unusually large. I then had to demand that my GP refer my daughter for a tonsilectomy. After having them removed, my daughter began enjoying foods and found it easier to taste and swallow.

My daughter is old enough now to understand a bit better and it's easier to persuade her to eat more. What I am trying to say is don't despair. Keep trying and pray to Allah to guide and help you in this matter.
The more anxiety your show your child just can make it worse for them. Then eating will become an uncomfortable task rather than something we need to do for sustenance and also eating should be something enjoyable.

There isn't any tonic that I know of that encourages appetite. Continue to give vitamin supplements, ensuring you are not giving an excess of the same vitamins. particularly vitamin A & D. Also check if your child has any kind of food intolerance. As reactions to foods can be uncomfortable and make a child unwilling to eat.

I pray that your child will overcome this Insha'Allah,

    Regards

    Hopeful

  4. Salaam My Sister,

I am sorry for this worry that you are experiencing. In most hospitals there will be a paediatric dietician who deals with the nutrition and eating habits of children. Your son may have an undiagnosed problem such as reflux, high metabolism or allergy - anything which can be causing weight disorder.

A paediatric dietician works with doctors to ensure children are the correct weight, and are usually called in by doctors. You can also see them privately and pay for their services.

InshaAllah you will find one quickly and get your son putting on weight, my prayers are with you.

    Peace,

  5. salamualakum,
i agree that first have him checked by a doctor. if the doctor says there are no illnesses or health issues, then don't worry about it. kids grow at different rates. my brother was the skinniest kid ever, and plus he didn't have much of an appetite. he was constipated, and had to be distracted to be fed. but he's big and "extra-healthy" now at 25 years of age, and he grew up! he'as not that thin boy with dark circles under his eyes anymore. he loves food. your son is growing, you just can't see it. remember he was a sperm and egg first, then a baby in your tummy, then a newborn, and as the years and months progressed he grew out of his clothes, right? i would suggest give him lots of love, play with him, and the bond he will develop with you now is going to be everlasting. make him a happy and loved kid, enjoy him. he might just start gaining weight, i am serious. i am telling you, the best way to heal a kid is unlimited love and dua. don't force him, scream, yell, because he's growing anyways. give him variety. you know, carrot sticks, cheese sticks, different flavored milks, grains in different shapes, rice, bread, noodles, soups, nuggets, pizza.....he will one day be a man who loves food, and it will happen by itself. let him enjoy his life. let him have good memories of you.

  6. I have heard that children with same problem as yours can be given human growth hormone as some children can lack this, speak to the doctor about it?!

  7. assalamualaikum my son is 9 yrs old having bronchities he is very thin and skinny he is not gaining weight and height so please tell me some dua for my problem

    • ayesha, please log in and write your question as a separate post, and tell us more about your son's condition, treatment, etc. We are not doctors or medical advisors, however. If you only need a dua' for good health, here is one:

Allahumma adhhibal-bas, Rabb-annaas, ishfi wa Anatal Shaafi, la shifaa' 'illa Shiaa'uk, Shifa'al la youghadiru saqama

"O Allah, Remove the Hardship, Oh Lord of Mankind, Grant a cure, for You are the Healer, There is no Cure but from You; (You provide the) cure which leaves no illness behind." (while patting the sick person, recite)
      [Sahih al-Bukhari]

  12. Asslam O Alaikum
In my point of view your child is lacking HGH ; at this age it is a common problem its symptoms are undeveloped muscles, stunt or slow growth, weak bones and sleep desturbance you should consult a specilist to give him 4IU of human growth hormone daily for a limited time accordingly. Some basic treatments are your child should take high protein diet ; especially L-Lyseine and L-Arganine boost growth hormone production and your child should take 7-8 hour sound sleep. In some worse conditions there may be presence of tumor in pituitary gland which is limiting hormones like somatotrophine, testosterone etc

  13. pls recite surah Fatiha several times on your child, her food and water..inshaaALLAH will gt shifa
give kalonji( a pinch) in honey everyday regularly...
    surah yaseen whenever u can.
    n 4 qul..
