Seeking Guidance about Istikhara

dreams

Istikhaarah and Personal Choice

(Editor's note: both of your posts have been combined into one for the sake of convenience.)

My situation:

I am planning to go for my higher studies, and I intend to do Istikhara for seeking guidance from ALLAH, as there are a number of pros and cons related with that (like leaving family, job, etc.). I have a strong faith in Istikhara, and have been practising it for long. But I seldom remember my dreams, or they are associated with what is happening around me. Sometimes I will see three dreams in one night, as I have bad sleep.

So, I did Istikhara continuously for the last 4 days. This is what I have been following:

Day 1: Don't remember dream, but woke happy, contented and satisfied.
Day 2: Don't remember dream, but woke confused
Day 3: Don't remember dream, but woke happy, contented and satisfied.
Day 4: Don't remember dream, but woke happy, contented and satisfied.

What I should do?

How valid is the Quranic Istikhara,

  1. Asalaamu alaikum brother
You need to continue for 7 days. If by the you do not receive an answwr then obtain advise of people u trust, and trust in Allah that you have made the right decision. If you don't have anyone like thia , the n trust your heart and place all of your Trust on God most High, for He is all Wise And will inshAllah guide you appropriately. Take care, Asalaamu Alaikum was Rahmatullah

  2. AsSalaamu Alaikum,

If you did the Istikhara correctly as per the way it was taught by the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wasallam (in the hadith), then do what you think is the best for you. You can also discuss about what you want to do with your close relatives (like mother or father), and then take the final decision. The final decision would be the result of the istikharah, inshaAllah. If the thing is good for you in Dunya and Akhirah, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will make it happen, inshaAllah. But if it's bad for you, He will save you from it, inshaAllah.

As for the validity of the Quranic Istikhara, undoubtedly it is bid'ah. It has no basis in Islam. However, what is valid is to hear a good word (it could be by reading the Holy Quran or you just heard it somewhere) without you making the effort to hear it.

    Narrated Abu Huraira:

"I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying, "There is no Tiyara, and the best omen is the Fal." They asked, "What is the Fal?" He said, "A good word that one of you hears (and takes as a good omen)". (Bukhari)

Hope this helps inshaAllah, and Allah knows best.

  3. Masha'Allaah! You are very good in Faith and Belief. How? The repetitive fluency of your dreams is something that I am concerned of. I will not quote Qur'an and Hadiths here. But will let you know in a nutshell.

Brother, You are constantly fighting for your own self. And your Faith and Belief is getting stronger day by day masha'Allaah! Don't let it go away. This is a Gift from Allaah (subhanahu wa ta'ala). It seems to me you are a true knowledge seeker insha'Allaah. For you my friend Allaah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) Has Higher places to give to His servants. So fasten your seat belts you have got a long journey to go. Brother Adnan, Be strong because when Allaah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) Wants someone to give something Nobler He Will Test the person accordingly, you will be tested more.

Regarding your dreams and the frequency of doing it represents you are following the path of Islam. masha'Allaah! Also don't let the devil fool you. You might get wet dreams. Beware! Cause the devil wants your Faith and Belief to decrease. SO BEWARE!

As your current situation carry on the path that you want to follow for higher studies. One thing you should and must carry on is reciting the Qur'an with translation. And insha'Allaah you will see how Allaah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) Will Ease your path. Amen!

For you the Signal is Yellow: Meaning You have more opportunities coming to your way in terms of higher studies insha'Allaah. Now, it is your choice to move to the country or wait for more.

    Best regards,

    Allaah Knows the Best!

  6. Hi. Actually, I fell short of words while making this comment on my original post, but had no other source to seek guidance from.

In my pursuit for higher education, I left my hometown to the destination country few days ago with a short Transit / Stopover between the connecting flights. When I left my hometown, I had feelings in my heart which don't let me made a final decision (i.e. to go ahead or to stay back). After reaching the transit city via Airplane, I didn't boarded the second flight somehow and rather stayed back. Now, I am in the same transit city from past few days, asking guidance from ALLAH, whether to go ahead or to revert back.

My situation is that I can't make up the mind. I wanted to go for Higher Education, but something stops me. When I try to revert back to hometown, something again stops me. I can't figure out any solution to this.

Please advise. I am in a do die situation now.

    • AsSalaamu Alaikum Brother Engadnan

You seem like a devout Muslim brother, who is very cautious about everything in his dunya and deen, mashaAllah.

What I can say now is that, you should make wudhu, then seek refuge from Shaitaan, and then do Istighfaar for a while, and then pray Istikhara again, and see what happens next inshaAllah.

May Allah keep you safe in your journey. Ameen!

  7. Thank Issah. I will surely follow your directed procedure tonight.
