Swearing By Allah. How to stop something bad from happening
Salam,
I have a question about swearing by Allah.
(This was when i was not as religious.)
So let's say that you are very afraid that something will happen so you ask Allah, I will never do this thing ever again, will you please stop whatever I'm scared of from happening? (Or maybe something has already happened, and you are asking Allah to stop it) Sort of like a sacrifice so the thing doesn´t happen?
So, anyway, the thing you are afraid of doesn´t happen, but you break your swear, is there a way to repent and be forgiven?
If so, what is it?
I heard somebody telling me you fast for two months but I just want to make sure.
Jazakalihair, please answer as soon as possible.

Thatmuslema, Asalaamualaykum,
Allah (swt) says in the Quran in Surah Al-Maaidah Verse 89: “Allaah will not punish you for what is unintentional in your oaths, but He will punish you for your deliberate oaths; for its expiation (a deliberate oath) feed ten Masaakeen (poor persons), on a scale of the average of that with which you feed your own families, or clothe them or manumit a slave. But whosoever cannot afford (that), then he should fast for three days. That is the expiation for the oaths when you have sworn. And protect your oaths (i.e. do not swear much). Thus Allaah makes clear to you His Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) that you may be grateful.”
Also the Prophet (saw) said: “Whoever swears an oath then sees that something else is better than it, let him do that and offer expiation for his oath.” Narrated by Muslim (1650).

I do not feel it is right for us to bargain or negotiate with Allah. We should make sincere dua and ask Allah to better our situations knowing that He can do anything, nothing is too great for Him to do. At the same time, continue doing as many good deeds as possible like the obligatory acts of worship i.e. Salaah, Fasting, Pilgrimage, Zakah and also do volunatry deeds i.e. giving sadaqa and good to people. When you give up something because you know Allah dislikes it, this is a real sacrifice.

Please log in and submit your question as a separate post, be sure to add more detail so we can advise you better. In the meantime, speak to Allah, talk to Him(swt) directly - He(swt) is As-Samee and Al-Mujeeb, He(swt) is The One who Hears and The One who Answers.
