Why do Jinn Disturb us? Can a House Be Bad Omen?

Jinn and Bad Omen?

Asalamu Alaikum

when i was 13 me n my family  moved to a new apartment after coming back to my country from Saudi Arabia (completing umra).. that was the first visit of mine to Saudi n after coming back i often performed tahajjad prayer even i didn't kno all its merits that time (i was inspired to pray tahajjad as have seen ppl pray n do tawaf the whole night in Makkah) ...

I have read in book that after doing hajj or umra a person get too pious or get derailed by the shaitan...if jinn visited me does mean im derailed? it was first time in that new apartment i felt something unusual n not humanly when i was in my prayer.

from a very young age i believed in jinn but was brave enough as i know that ayatul kursi works as magic keeping jinn away from me..when i moved into the new apartment..soon my grandfather got ill n was moved to my aunt's house from another city - my aunt's house was 15 min away from my new home by car..

i regularly used to visit him with my mom..one day when i came home my two maids complained they want to leave  as they have felt something n one said she saw a white thing moving.another said door opened inspite of closing the door...me n my mother paid no attention..

After month or two my father n younger brother left for india to see a doctor leaving me,my mother n the two maid at home. one morning when i finished my tahajjad, i dont remember after fajr azan or before it i heard heavy footsteps n it seemed like runing in a fast speed or racing n i could hear very shrinky female voice n it seemed like more than one female,..n it cant be female  human being because who will jog at 4am? i told my mom in morning and she paid no attention..

another night,it was new year's eve n the next day would be eid. i was in bed n told  mom to come sleep with me but she was busy..then i heard some whisperings but didnit understand (i know now shaitan whispers didnt know then, but isnt shaitan whispers into our heart? should it be loud that we can hear?) i dont get it till now....

but very very sure i heard something..days passed by my grandfather was moved to my house n he died in my house.. in that time i started having sleeping problem at a very young age..soon  i stopped praying tahajjad n soon i also stopped praying fajr..my question does this things mean bad jinn visited me n i was under their influence?

i know any one can have insomnia, but mine happen at a vey young age like 13-14. can jinn cause sleeping problem? can a house be bad omen..i know islam dont permit in believing in omens. i think it that way because we had a lot of problem when we were residing there..

two years after we moved into our own home (in the same city)) from there n there was no problem i faced like before, After a year n half i went abroad for vacation with my uncle n aunt with their two little kids..my father n brother stayed in country as he had school to attend n my mother went to my granny's place to stay (stayed in the country)..

after i came back mom wasnt home  n my wardrobe as walls were coloured was moved n my bed thick mattress was removed by my father as his bed was taken for fixing it. only a thin mattress was there. as i was very tired that night after my journey, so after having dinner at a restaurant with my father n brother i went to sleep arriving home.

at 2:30 or 3 AM i woke up, closed my window to switch on ac, then lied down, then suddenly i heard someone feet landed on my bed n it made noise as the matress was thin. i felt it was a jinn n it kept on making noise as that something  was walking on my bed. i closed my eyes n started reading surahs n dorood, i felt it it touched my neck n also came infront of my face, then i fell asleep.

when i woke up i thought i have dreamed but suddenly when i looked to my left i see  footsteps as the matress preserved the steps.. i saw 3 footsize..one was enormously big n other was a little smaller.during afternoon i realized another footstep which was of a little child.no one enter my room during night as my room was locked and no one did my bed as i told my maid not to.

now im a adult n ALhamdiLILAH i dont face such problem

My question is does jinn come to people whom they feel are bad coz ive heard that once? can it be that after reading surahs jinn size got smaller n finally flee? can it be that jinn that came to the previous apartment haunted me to my home as well?

  1. It's quite a story. I just want to say something... for those who are going to comment, please do not make definitive comments about what exists, what does not exists, or what those things are capable of. It's true that many people feel that they know just what exists and they love to set down ground rules. I'd just like to say that Allah SWT never ever said that jinn are the only things that exist, that they can not manifest in physical reality, or that there are not other multi dimensional or other beings that exist. I personally think, but only as an opinion because it's only after we die that we learn more than we know now, that jinn are the most relevant issue to our existance here because not only are they high in numbers, but their goal is to derail us from the fate that Allah SWT most wants for us. As for the other things, maybe it's just not necessary that we know about them at this point in existance.
As for the sister, I'd say open all your doors and windows and bring someone into your house with strong deen and someone who is not talking out of arrogance or otherwise, and have them read quran in every crack of your house during the daylight hours. Allah SWT gave us tools to protect us from jinn and shaytan and dajal so just use them and trust in Allah SWT and don't allow jinn to plant ideas in your mind.
Second piece of advice would be to get your mental and psychological wellbeing checked before you consider anything other worldly. Remember most people that suffer from sicknesses or disease that cause false manifestations in what seems like the physical reality can't really self diagnose. It could be caused from anything from stress to a brain tumor so get yourself checked out. The degree of your experiences and your background as well as physical health should all be considered before demons or otherwise are considered.
If you get a clean bill of health from a professional psychologist and medical specialists, and still feel something other than just jinn are following or pestering or even threatening you, then trust your soul, your spirit knows when it is in danger. If you feel you need to, seek out someone with an education in Religious studies and an open mind to ask for advice. Avoid those that are very fundamental in Islam or even fanatic. You don't want people pointing fingers at you and tell you that you're committing a sin by believing you're being pestered or attacked by something not of this world. I know when I go over seas many Mullahs and what not would be quick to say you're of little faith and jinn are capitalizing on that, so be careful who you seek help from.

  2. Salamualaikum,

Sister, Jinn interfering with our lives is a reality. In some cases, even the highly pious people are affected by their harms.

In most cases, though, it is only a supposition that Jinn has is involved, while it is not the case.

But yes, if a home becomes equal to a graveyard, meaning that no Quran is recited, no Salah is done, no mention of Deen, then Shaitaan can easily find place in this home.

There maybe differenct reasons why the Jinn disturb us including the feeling of love and magic (which is actually considered a contract between a Shaitaan and a Magician)

Imam ibn Taymiyyah mentioned the following causes for Jinn disturbing us:

    1. Due to sensual desires on the part of the Jinn, passions or even love, just as it may be among humans.

    2. hatred and revenge of the Jinn, because of some wrong done to him. For example, when humans accidentally harm or hurt the Jinn by urinating on them, by pouring hot water on them, or by killing some of them, the Jinn think that they have been harmed intentionally. Though humans may not realize what they have done, the Jinn are by nature ignorant, very harsh and unstable in their behavior, so they may revengefully punish humans much more than they actually deserve.

    3. plain evil on the part of the Jinn, just as evil and mischief occurs among humans for similar reasons.
    (Majmoo al-Fatawa)

In your case, Allah Knows Best what the problem was, but even if you are sure it was a Jinn, you were not harmed, right? So you need not worry.

In truth, the Jinn fear Humans. I have read/heard from the scholars that the Jinn were living in the mountains and seeking refuge from Humans, but when they say the Humans fear them, they took advantage and started to scare them. I am however not able to find the hadith or the athar that has this mention.

Jinn can harm the humans psychologically and emotionally.

They can also possess a human body, as mentioned in a Sahih Hadith in Imam Ahmad's Musnad and Imam Hakim's Mustadrak.

There is a Hadith in Sahih Muslim that says: "Verily, Shaytaan flows in the blood-streams of Adam's descendants."

You can safeguard yourselves from the Jinn by practicing the supplications of the day and night which can be accessed from the book of Duas "Fortress of the Muslim - Hisn al Muslim". You should also keep reading Quran, especially Surah al Baqarah.

Regarding bad omens, there is a Hadith that says “Tiyarah (belief in evil omens) is shirk.” - Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

Another Hadith says: “Bad omens are in a woman, a house and a horse" - Sahih Bukhari and Muslim.

About this Hadith, there are different views.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: “Another group said: regarding these three as bad omens only affects those who believe in that.

Whoever puts his trust in Allaah and does not believe in omens and superstition, that does not affect him. They said: this is indicated by the hadeeth of Anas, ‘A bad omen only affects the one who believes in it.’

If a person believes in bad omens, Allaah may make that the cause of bad things happening to him, just as He may make trust in Him and making Him alone the focus of one's fear and hope one of the main causes of warding off evil that people may superstitiously expect.

The reason for that is that tiyarah (superstitious belief in omens) implies shirk or associating others with Allaah, fearing others besides Him and not putting one’s trust in Him. The superstitious person attracts evil to himself, so the superstition affects him more, because he did not protect himself with belief in Allaah alone and trust in Allaah. If a person fears something other than Allaah, it gains control over him and he is tormented by it; if he loves something else as well as Allaah, he will be tormented by it; if he puts his hope in something alongside Allaah he will be let down by it. These matters are well known from real life and there is no need to provide further evidence. Everyone inevitably feels superstitious but the strong believer wards off those superstitious feelings by putting his trust in Allaah. Whoever puts his trust in Allaah, He will suffice him and he will have no need of anyone or anything else.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “So when you want to recite the Qur’aan, seek refuge with Allaah from Shaytaan (Satan), the outcast (the cursed one). Verily, he has no power over those who believe and put their trust only in their Lord (Allaah). His power is only over those who obey and follow him (Satan), and those who join partners with Him (Allaah, i.e. those who are Mushrikoon, i.e., polytheists)” [al-Nahl 16:98]

Hence Ibn Mas’ood said: “All of us sometimes feel superstitious, but Allaah causes it to disappear when we put our trust in Him.” They said: superstition with regard to houses, women and horses may affect only those who believe in it; as for the one who puts his trust in Allaah and fears Him alone, and does not believe in bad omens, then horses, women and houses cannot be bad omens for him....
(Shaikh ibn Qayyim in Miftaah Daar al-Sa’aadah)

I hope I have answered all your questions.

  3. Asslam alekum wa rahmatullahi barkatohu,

I don’t have many knowledge about this thing, but I have some information regarding this according to Quran Sharif and hadis some information i read personally and some of them found in internet and also trying to find more related to it, not any kind of bad intension or not any doubt about in our religion only wants me to close with religion and truth not wants misunderstanding and misguidance. and Allah SWT know my intension. And protect me to take and forward my knowledge with people any kind of misunderstanding and if some where I am wrong then please point out me.

Rabbi zidni 'ilman war zuqni fahman
O Allah! Advance me in Knowledge and true understanding

It needs no special stressing that the jinn were created before mankind, as Allah says: “And indeed, We created man out of clay of altered sound mud And the jinn, We created aforetime from a scorching flame of fire”[15:26-27].

The jinn are a world of their own, different from that of the humans or the Angels. They do, however, possess some characteristics in common with human beings, such as the ability to think and reflect. Likewise, they have the ability to choose between good and evil.

We are informed by Allah that the jinni was created from 'marijin min nar' (i.e., fire) as He says in the Glorious Qur'an:“And the jinn, we have created aforetime from The smokeless flame of fire”(55:27). And: “And the jinn: He created from a smokeless flame of fire”(55:15).

The jinn, including Satan, eat and drink, marry and reproduce. The first two characteristics, those of eating and drinking, can be inferred from the saying of the Prophet sallallahu alayhe wa salam:“ When one of you eats, he should eat with his right hand. And when one of you drinks he should drink with his right hand. Verily, Satan eats and drinks with his left hand”. As for the two other characteristics, they can be deducted from the Qur'an in that context where Allah describe the spouses of the believers in Paradise:“ Wherein both will be Qasirat-ut-Tarf [chaste females (wives) restraining their glances, desiring none except their husband, with whom no man or jinn has ever touched”[55:56].

Undoubtedly, all species (including the jinn and the devils) do die. This has been confirmed by the Qur'an:“Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish. And the face
of your Lord full of Majesty and Honor will remain forever”(55:26-27).

In addition, the Prophet, sallallahu alayhe wa salam, is reported to have said:“ I seek refuge, by Your Glory, the One, Whom there is no other god but You, the One who dies not, and the jinn and mankind do die”.

The jinn live on the earth as humans do, but most of them are found among the ruins and those places contaminated with ritual impurity such as bathrooms, cemeteries and animal yards. Many of them are also found in spots where money transaction (the root of the evil) takes places. The following advice was given by the Prophet, sallallahu alayhe wa salam, to his Companions:“ If you can, do not be the first one to enter the marketplace. And do not be the last to leave it for it is Satan's abode and therein he raises his banner”.

Some animals such as the camels are usually accompanied by the devils. The Prophet, sallallahu alayhe wa salam, said:“ Verily, the camel has been created from devils. And behind every camel there is a devil”. And also: “Do not make salah in the pastures of the camels, for they are from the devils. But make salah in the field of the sheep, for they are blessed”.

The jinn also used to go to the lowest heaven in order to eavesdrop on the inhabitants of the heavens and so would be able to find out what was happening therein. When this was detected, the number of guards (including meteors and comets) were increased, blazing down fire on dropping jinn. Allah says in the Glorious Qur'an:“And we have sought to reach the heaven, but found it filled with stern guards and flaming fires. And verily, we used to sit there in stations, to (steal) a hearing, but any who listen now will find a flaming fire watching him in ambush”(72:8-9).

The jinn have the ability to take on the shapes of humans and animals. On the day of the battle of Badr, Satan approached the Prophet's enemies in the form of a man called 'Suraqa Ibn Malik' and promised them aid and triumph. On that occasion Allah has revealed the following verse:“ And remember when Shaitan (Satan) made their (evil) deeds seem fair to them and said: No one of mankind can overcome you this day (of the battle of Badr) and verily, I am your neighbor (for each and every help).
But when the two armies met and Satan saw the angels descending from the sky to support the Muslims side, he fled. [the above verse continues]. But when the two forces came in sight of each other, he ran away and said: Verily, I have nothing to do with you. Verily, I see what you see not. Verily! I fear Allah for Allah is severe in punishment” (8:48).

However, the devils have no power over the pious and loyal worshippers of Allah. This means that the power granted by Allah to Satan and his tribe is not without limits. Allah says in the Glorious Qur'an:“Verily, My slaves you have no authority over them. And All-sufficient is your Lord as a Guardian” (17:65). “And indeed Iblees (Satan) did prove true his thought about them: and they followed him, all except a group of true believers (in the Oneness of Allah). And he (Iblees-Satan) had no authority over them except that We might test him who believes in the Hereafter from him who is in doubt about it”(34:20-2l).

Imam Al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: This Hadith affirms that both the divine decree and the evil eye are real; it is powerful, but neither the evil eye nor anything else can cause harm or do any good or any bad except by the decree of Allah.

    What are Jinns?

    1. Amongst Allah’s vast creation are Angel, humans and Jinns (Genies).
    2. Jinns and Angels are invisible to the human eye (until science and technology advances).
    3. Angels are obedient and loyal to Allah by following each and every instruction. Whereas humans and Jinn are given the freewill to choose whether to obey or not to obey.
    4. Amongst the family of jinns there are a group of disbelieving Jinn who follow Iblees the greatest enemy of Allah and mankind. it is this group that cause mischief to he humans.

    About Jinns.

    1. Created from smokeless fire.
    2. Granted free will, to obey or disobey Allah.
    3. Ability to fly, change form and or appearance.
    4. They eat, drink, marry, procreate and have nature calls.
    5. Disbelieving Jinn serve Satan. (Iblees)

“I created jinn and mankind only that they may worship me.”
    (Quran: Al Zariyat:56)

A hadith on the authority of Ibn Masud the Messenger of Allah (saws) said:
"There is not any one of you except that he has been assigned his companion from among the Jinn and his companion from among the Angels. Then the Companions said,
'Even you, O Messenger of Allah,' He replied 'Even me, except that Allah has protected me against the Jinn, so that I am unharmed, and so he orders me to do nothing but good'."

If you know or feel you have been confronted by a Jinn, then recite \
Auzuu billah hi minash shaytan nirrajim, bismillah hirrahma nirrahim ......; Lahawla wa la quwwata illa billahil aliuwul azim.....
and the last two chapters of Qur'aan, Qul auzu birrabin nas and Qul auzu birabil falaq, or the best verse to recite is Ayat Al Qursi
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'Ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan
O Allah! I ask You for knowledge that is of benefit, a good provision and deeds that will be accepted.

  5. Aslamulaikum im moving into a new appartment with my husband and my seven year old son and i was told that my appartment is had experience with jinns and im not so sure if i should move in there with my young son? Im a new muslim and i dont know much about how to deal with this i went to visit my appartment and i felt uncomfortable there and my husband says its fine as long as we read quran in the home and keep everything halal but unfortunetly im not as strong in my faith. ALLAH knows best

  6. Just before sun set / before maghrib salah I'd suggest you to close every window and cover your water vessels / kitchen utensils and cutlery in the name of Allah, say bismilah (in the name of Allah) whilst closing the windows and the main doors of your house. When you hear the Barking of a dog after this time, any time during the night seek refuge with Allah, say out with your tounge or mentally: bismilahi a'uthoo bilahi minna shaitanir rajeem. you can easily find this dua and it's correct pronunciations via authentic websites on Google. Trust in Allah. Show no fear, don't acknowledge the happenings, ignore them and don't give it significance for the jinn like this and may do it more. asalamu alecom

    • Oh please.

      Wael

    • The part about closing all doors and windows is correct. So don't listen to that immature fool Wael. We were downstairs after Maghrib and my daughter said there's something upstairs, she can hear them breathing. A cold sweat came over me and my hair raised on my head and hands. When I went to the upstairs rooms, the sensation became stronger and in different parts of the house. We lit some incense and preceded to smoke out each room. The entire upstairs was open and dark, so they took the opportunity to enter our house. The next sunset, we closed all doors and windows and the problem didn't return.

  7. Believe in the oneness of Allah, remember Allah constantly. Believe in everything Allah has revealed to us in the qur'an for this is the truth. Guard yourself from the disbelieving people seek refuge in Allah and guidance too. Asalamu alaycum sister.
