I took money in my brother’s name
I claimed benefit money from the government under my brothers name without letting my brother know. I first asked him to apply but he refused so I went behind his back and applied under his name.
I applied for the benefit using my brother name... and I put my bank details so that the money would come to me.
I have recently started to practise Islam again and I wanted to repent from this sin.
I decided to tell my brother what I done...and he wanted me to give him all the money which I falsely claimed under his name.
So I decided to give him all the money which I claimed under his name.
And I repented to Allah...but I don't feel satisfied with my repentance. I'm not sure if I feel guilty for this or not. And was it the right thing for me to give him the money.
I have this feeling that he doesn't deserve the money and sometimes I question my self why did I return the money to him?
Please let me know if my repentance is valid.

Asalamualaykum Brother,
You obviously felt like you'd done something wrong, since you revealed your actions to your brother and opened yourself up to criticism and judgement. So I wouldn't overanalyze whether you feel guilty or not. You feel what you feel. To right this wrong, you should ask for forgiveness from Allah and for forgiveness from your brother. Inshallah your burden will be lightened and you and your brother can move forward with honest communication in the future.
Best,
Nor

SVS: You committed fraud WITH Government by pretending to be someone you are not. You probably signed as your brother. There may be a reason your brother did not apply for benefits
