Magic and The Knowledge of the Unseen

Magic and Magicians

Asalaam Walaikum Brothers and Sisters

I need some advise regarding a situation involving my family and extended family. Please can you inform me of the following in light of Quran, Sunnah and Hadiths:
1. Are there any such humans in this day and age who can help cure people of illnesses and black magic/jinn by holding their wrists and making dua to Allah to take away the problem because they claim they have special powers from Allah?

2. Are any humans able to see black magic on a person and also be able to identify where this magic has come from? This person claims that Allah has given them the 'spirtual eye' so they can see/know the unseen. Is there any mention of this in Islam. Is it possible for anyone to know the unseen or past events about ones private life?

3. Are we as Muslims allowed to go to people who claim such powers and claim that they are close to Allah and ask them to make dua for us so our illnesses/black magic can be cured?

4. If one believes the claims of such people or participates in asking for help from these people in such manner, is it allowed in Islam or is this a form of Shirk?

Thank you for your help
Jazak Allah Khair

  1. As Salamualaikum,

Sister Forzana, not only in this age, but even in the time of the Salaf as Saliheen, there were many liars who claimed to have the knowledge of the unseen.

They are called "magicians". There people are allies of Shaitaan, who aid the Shaitaan by going astray and leading the people astray. The Shaitaan aids them by doing what they want from him of the effects of Magic.

Magic never happens, except when three are involved. One, the magician. Two, the shaitaan. Three, person on whom magic is done. (I am confused about the third. Insha Allah, I'll update if it is different).

Now, I will insha Allah answer you questions one by one.

    1. There are people who can cure magic through the Quran and the Sunnah. But holding the wrist and doing dua, I don't think it works. Quran is read before the victim repeatedly, until the Shaitaan is forced out.

It should be noted that there are people who claim to cure magic by performing magic. You should beware. There are again the allies of Shaitaan. And wrong can not eliminate wrong. Only the Quran and the Sunnah can cure it by the Will of Allah.

And one only needs knowledge and belief in Allah, and no special powers. The ones who speak of special powers maybe those who have Shayateen as their helpers. Beware!!!

How you can differentiate between them and the righteous people who can cure is that the former will ask you for your mother's name. This is one of the things. There are many other differentiators.

    2. Humans can see the effect of magic. Cure is from Allah. Noone can claim to know who the magic has come from, but until the Jinn himself informs them, they may find it difficult to find where it has come from (example: hair, nail, etc.).

The concept of "spiritual eye" is a hoax. There is no way of loomygog the unseen, except through Revelation (Wahy). It is possible for a person to know the future of another person, only through the Shaitaan.

According to a Hadith, when a matter is Decreed by Allah and the Angels discuss it, the Shayateen try to hear it from outside the first Heaven. The Angels manage to kill most of them, while others who escape, come to magicians and inform then about this. The magician then adds a hundred lies to it and informs the fools who visit them.

The magicians are also capable of knowing the part, again through the Shaitaan. There is a Shaitaan with every Human Being, as you maybe knowing, who always calls to evil. This Shaitaan knows every single thing about the person he is with. You may have forgotten something he may remember it. In other words, he is another you, who has no Islam, while you are a Muslim.

When a person visits the magician, this Shaitaan tells him everything. This is how he can tell everything correctly.

    3. According to the Ahadeeth, a person who visits people who claim to have there powers and who claim to know the matters of the unseen, his or her prayers for 40 days will not be accepted. But if he or she believes in the magician's words, this is Kufr. Magic is itself Kufr, learning it, practicing it is all Kufr.

    4. I have already said that it is Kufr. So you should be far away from then. But there are people who can cure magic through the Quran and the Sunnah. This should not be forgotten or ignored. Anyone who has knowledge and trust and belief in Allah can perform the cure.

If you have any further question, please revert.

    Jazakillahu Khair

  2. As I understand, it is a form of shirk. It is also a form of fraud as many of those who claim to have these powers, charge money to "cure" others from black magic. Think psychic hot lines, fortune tellers at markets etc. I'm not going to say that there are no humans who cannot see auras, or sense things more than others. But those intuitives rarely, if ever charge money, or even make themselves known. What I do know, and have seen, is that in many cultures old pagan superstitions remain, especially in more rural villages from the middle east to africa, to south america and europe as well. They're called "old wives' tales". And over the years, even with the advent of the internet and research capabilities, the old traditions be they pre-islamic, pre-christian, pre-mosaic law still are firmly rooted among some families/villages/societies and even carry over into families in the west who have been here for generations.

Yes there are people who can help those overcome their illnesses. They are called doctors, PA's, nurses, etc. And since not all illnesses can be overcome, those same professionals can advise an appropriate course of treatment.

My friend has a neice here in the US who is aged 9 months. She was hit with a stomach virus which caused discomfort, fever, and intestinal symptoms. The baby's grandmother, from a rural village in El Salvador, and a catholic, decided that the baby was affected by the evil eye. So some long drawn out egg ritual was performed on the poor baby, complete with a very dangerous practice of wrapping a feverish child in a blanket soaked in isopropal alchohol. And this is in the US!!!! Luckily for the baby, her aunt stepped in, gave her tylenol, took her to the ER to be re-hydrated, and informed the old aunties that the Dr. cured the evil eye. I never realized this as a former US catholic (we never got evil eye training), but according to el sal catholics, once one is infected with the evil eye and recovers, he/she can never be infected again, but can infect others unknowingly. The father of this child is so convinced of the evil eye that no explaination of viruses and their transportation will suffice for him. When the father was young (he claims) a chicken gave him the evil eye, and he is wholly convinced he has passed this curse to his daughter.
So imagine if I claimed to be one who could detect the evil eyes affecting babies, and claimed to be able to cure the affliction and I travelled around neighborhoods claiming my gifts. oh the money I could make. But 1. My claims would be shirk. and 2. I would be commiting fraud.

    • You're right about the charging of money. These people do make a LOT of money in this process....

The sensing of aura you mentioned, is called Ilham. It is a source other than the Revelation, through which, Allah makes matters clear. It is something few people sense or feel. But this has nothing to do with knowing someone's future or someone's past. One form of Ilham is true dreams. Revelation is done only on Prophets. And it was stopped after the Revelation of the Quran. But Ahadeeth inform us that Ilham will remain.

I thought I should mention one more point, that according to Islam, evil eye does have an effect.

  3. Br. Waseem,
I agree with you and Islam that IIham exists. Of that I have no doubt. I only doubt those who claim to have the "cure" and publicly claim they have IIham and they can "cure" ailments thusly for a fee. Because quite simply I dont believe that mortals can see the future. I do understand that evil eye has an effect. However, it is my opinion that the evil eye and all evil therein can be negated/rendered somewhat powerless when those of us believers refuse to acknowledge (ignore) the evil forces pushing into our lives. It is by the acknowledgement of evil ("I've been cursed by black magic...") that evil takes force and feeds upon our fears. When one believes they've been cursed, they've essentially invited black works into their lives. The better avenue for cure of any black magic or evil eye is to acknowledge Allah firstly, and be confident in his protection.

    • Sister, yes the people claiming of Ilham maybe lying because Allah Gives it to Whoever He Wills. There need not be a specific person on whom Ilham happens, except if Allah or His Messenger inform us. For example, Allah's Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has informed that Ilham happens on Umar Radiyallahu Anhu, one of his companions. This is a specific case.

Secondly, magic is something that happens. When something happens suddenly or someone's state changes suddenly, thorough medical check up is done in order to find the reason for what has happened. But all the reports show a normal status, when magic is involved. The cause of illness or change of state is unknown or unidentified. This is a symptom of magic.

I would not negate magic as we know from Ahadeeth that it was done of Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. But it was cured using the Quran. The Shayateen can not stand the recitation of Quran. Hence, it is used as a weapon against them. They stop whatever they had been doing, when Quran is recited.

One of my friends used to see red marks on his body, as though he was severely beaten with something. He also say that all the clothes in his home were torn. All this was due to an un identified reason. When he was young, his parents used to bring people for cure. These were among the liars who allied Shaitaan. When they performed their acts, my friend started to recite the Quran. They immediately asked him to stop, as Quran would not let them do what they have to. This is magic.

A cousin's wife had the temporary effect of magic. This made her so strong that she overpowered her husband and his brothers, ran to jump from a two storey building, to stand on her feet. I am not kidding. This was unusual, due to an unidentified reason.

The cure is in the Quran. And anyone with strong belief and vast knowledge can do it.

Thirdly, evil eye does have an effect. Though difficult to believe, it does. It shows how intense jealousy can be. We have reports from Allah's Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam saying that evil eye does have an effect.
We do not know, does not mean it is not true. 🙂

Of course, belief in Allah and His Rememberance does prevent magic or evil eye from having effect on us. We are advised to say Masha Allah when we witness somethin good with another person to avoid the effect of evil eye.
Reading the last two Surah of the Quran also helps in protection from magic. This was what Allah's Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam recited, to cure himself from magic. We can protect ourselves through the Quran and Duas prescribed by Allah and His Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, and unquestionable belief in Allah.

  4. ASSALAMALAIKUM-
The following sermon was delivered by Shaikh Abdul-Aziz bin Abdullah bin Hasan AlShaikh and addresses the misguidance of people wearing Tamimah (also referred to by names such as amulets / Taweez / talisman, etc.) for the purpose of healing or preventing problems. As we can see that such acts are not only prohibited, they constitute Shirk, which is the worst forms of sin and puts the person out of
1]Are there any such humans in this day and age who can help cure people of illnesses and black magic/jinn by holding their wrists and making dua to Allah to take away the problem because they claim they have special powers from Allah?
The effects of magic can be removed by making recitation of Qur'anic verses; by offering legitimate prayers (Ruqyah)

    ANSWER....Allah the Almighty said:
"Say: Tell me then, the things that you invoke besides Allah, -if Allah intended some harm for me, could they remove His harm, or if He (Allah) intended some mercy for me, could they withhold His Mercy? Say: Sufficient for me is Allah; in Him those who trust (i.e. believers) must put their trust."

2]Are any humans able to see black magic on a person and also be able to identify where this magic has come from? This person claims that Allah has given them the 'spirtual eye' so they can see/know the unseen..
ANSWER- THERE IS NO SPIRITUAL AYE AS A SPECIAL AYE FOR ANY ONE LIKE THTA IT IS JUSTA FALSE PRETENCE TO LURE PEOPLE WHGO HAVE A WORRY ON THEIR HAED AND THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT AND PULL MONEY AND GIVE YOU MAULETS[TAWEEZ] AND SEE THE STATUS OF AMULETS IN ISLAM-"Whoever wears talisman or an amulet would never see his wish fulfilled by Allah. And whoever hangs a sea shell would never get peace and rest."
In an another version the Prophet (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) is reported to have said:
"Whoever wears a talisman has committed Shirk (polytheism)."
"Whoever visited a soothsayer and believed in his words, has denied the Revelation to Muhammad (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) (i.e. Qur'an).(Abu Dawud)

3]Are we as Muslims allowed to go to people who claim such powers and claim that they are close to Allah and ask them to make dua for us so our illnesses/black magic can be cured?
ANSWER-ALL THOSE WHO GO TO THESE PEOPLE FOR SEEKING HELP THEY FALL TRAP INTO MAJOR SHIRK AS THE ONES WHOM YOU ARE THINKING TO HAVE PPWERS THEY ARE MAKING BUSINESS OUT OF IT AND YOUR IMAN IS LOST AS LONG AS YOU BE IN BELIEF THAT THIS PARTICULAR PERSON IS YOUR HELPER WHICH IS THE ROOT CAUSE OF SHIRK-
    4. If one believes the claims of such people or participates in asking for help from these people in such manner, is it allowed in Islam or is this a form of Shirk?
ANSWER....SEE THE EXAMPLE OF NABI SALALAHAUALAHAIWASALAM- During the time of the Prophet, there was a hypocrite who was causing harm upon the Believers. So some of them said "Let us go to the Prophet (s.a.w) and ask him to Istagheeth (seek for the removal of harm) for us from this hypocrite." So the Prophet (s.a.w) replied "Verily, Istighaathah cannot be requested from me, rather, from Allah." Although it was within the Prophet's (s.a.w) ability and power to prevent the harm from the hypocrite, and although their request was Islamically valid, he stressed on the importance of using such terms for Allah only, because of the consequent damage it could cause to the Tawheed of his Ummah, had it been used to other than Allah.
NOW PL JUDGE WHEN NABI SALALAHAUALAHIWASLALAM DIDNT ENCOURAGE PEOIPLE TO SEEK HELP FROM HIM IN HIS LIFE TIME TO AVOID MISGUIDENCE TO THE PEOPLE RATHER HE WANTED TO MAKE THE CREATION DIRECT SEEKER OF HALP FROM THE CREATOR ALLAH-THEN WHERE IS THE QUESTION OF THE USELESS SELF APPOINTED IMAMS AND SUFI [SANTS]SADHUS WHO ARE NOT EVEN ON THE RIGHT AQEEDA SHOWN BY NABI SALALAHAUAIAHIWASALAM THEY THEMSELVES ARE MISGUIDED AND LIVING IN DELUSION AND THEY DEVIATE INNOCENT PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHEN YOU ARE IN THESE TYPE TROUBLES LIKE MAGIC EFFECTS ETC-
    I REPEAT THIS AGAIN-
The effects of magic can be removed by making recitation of Qur'anic verses; by offering legitimate prayers READING YASEEN AND LAST TWO SURAHS OF KHUL FROM THE QURAN WITH FULL STRONG AND UNSHAKEABLE TRUST AND CONFIDENCE ON ALLAH ONLY-INSHALLAH WE CAN FACE NAY CYCLONE THAT COMES OUR WAY-IN THE FORM TROUBLES-
