  1. Asalamualaykum Sister Binish,

Congratulations on the birth of your new baby MashaAllah.

I think you should first decide which name you most are leaning towards or have an affinity with, because in the Istikhara dua, you ask Allah if that particular name is the best, and if it is not, then to keep it away from you and give you something better. So you need to have at least a rough idea which one you like best, and then seek the blessing of Allah.

I would recommend you do some more research on the individual names you like, like their background, which part of the world they originated in, if there are any important figures with those names, and also which name just feels right to you. Also ask others whose opinions you value. Then the final step should be the Istikhara dua:

"Oh Allah, I ask you to show me what is best through your knowledge, empower me through your power, and I beg you to grant me your tremendous favor. For you have power, while I have no power, you have knowledge, while I have no knowledge, and you are the one who knows all things invisible. If naming my baby______ (baby name you like) is in the best interest of my religion, my life in this world, and my life in the hereafter, and can yield successful results in both the short and long-term, than please make it possible for me, make it easy for me, and then bless me in it. If not, then please turn it away from me, and turn me away from it, and make it easy for me to do well, wherever I happen to be, and make me content with your verdict."

    Hugs,

  2. Choice is yours, however I like Arabic names . For instance zedaan meaning “ progressor” however there are some names in my mind are,
    Hashaam bin ( father name)

  3. As-salamu alaykum sister. I would choose a known Islamic name, like Zayn, Zaid, Ziyad or Zakariyyah, since you like the "Z"s.

Basically something from the Quran, or one of the sahabah. You can't go wrong with those.

My daughter Salma, who is 14, says, "Tell her to choose anything except Muhammad or Ibrahim."

    I said why?

She said, "Because there are so many of them! There are six Muhammads and Ibrahims in my class!"

But those are good names too, of course.

For me, I really like some of the names of the lesser known sahabah.
