Different sects

Can a sunni girl marry a shia boy? I am planning to do a istakhara myself and tell him to do perform it too. Is it okay for me to marry him? We are together since childhood and it's nearly impossible for me to forget him. Marrying another guy would mean ruining his life as I won't be able to fulfill his needs or love him. I want someone to guide me through.
