Islamic marriage advice and family advice

Just found out I’m married, but I don’t even know the man!

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatu

I just want to ask regarding about my situation.. I'm a reverted muslimah last year Alhamdulillah I found the right path of my life to choose Islam as my guide.  Do I have to be divorce first before marrying a muslimin? Coz I found out last year also after embracing Islam that I'm married already. Wallahu allam I did not know that I was married since 2008 I was shocked coz I did not attend to any ceremony of my "marriage". I just found out when I asked my sister to get me a singleness to verify that I'm single, and surprisingly the result was MARRIED. I did not know even the man who was it but he's an Indian nationality, since then I don't know what to do I consult to a lawyer and he said that I should file to nullify that marriage but It will cost me a lot. Please any advice.

  1. Your post is very confusing.
I think you need to explain further...

Firstly, congratulations on embracing Islam - may Allah guide you to success and happiness.

I'm not sure what you mean by asking your sister to get you a singleness - do you mean she requested a "No Impediment" certificate from the Consulate of your home country?

If someone has fraudulently reported that they have married you, then this is a legal matter, which should be taken up with your country's legal services - if you have spoken to a lawyer already, they should be able to advise you on who to contact next, and it might also be sensible for this to be reported to the police or to Immigration (as this man may have committed this fraud in order to break the law).

If you are considering marriage to a Muslim man (as a Muslimah, your husband must be a Muslim) then you can ask the Imam at your mosque what he would recommend in this situation. He may advise waiting until you can have a civil marriage as well as a nikah (some places will only do a nikah if a civil ceremony is also taking place), or might suggest having a nikah and then having the civil registration of the marriage at a later date.

It's not clear if you are considering marriage in general or if you have someone in mind. If you are thinking about looking for a husband, ensure you go about this in a halal way - many mosques or community centres provide an introductions service, or you could ask Muslim friends and family if they can look out for any potential matches. If you have already decided who you wish to marry, please ensure your relationship is halal, so no unIslamic interactions take place.

  3. I know it can be very stressful if one finds out he/she is married and he/she doesn't know who the spouse is?Can you give some more details so that we can try to find a solution to your problem.

  4. Asalamu alaikum sis someone may have just stolen your identity for immigration purposes if this is so you need to file for identity theft not a nullification try to find out go back to the lawyer and ask dear.
