Struggling with the thought of future polygamy

polygamy

For the last 4 years of my marriage I've been struggling with the issue of polygamy in Islam.

My husband is not polygamous, and says he does not have an interest in polygamy, but still I find myself living in constant fear and worry that he will one day change his mind and I'll find myself in one of these marriages.

  1. Asalam alikum sister.
Dont be afraid of anything ALLAH is the best planer .deal with all your difficulties with sabr, stop overthinking thanks ALLAH for everything you have.

Deep down you believe he will. What makes you think he will do it?

  3. Asslaamualaykum Sister Aasiya,

    Ramadan Mubarak.

Has your husband talked about or otherwise indicated that he would be interested in having another wife? Or is your fear more baseless? Four years is a long time to be dwelling on the same fear. Do you have anxiety about other things too, or is this an isolated issue?

What about polygamy scares you? Is it having to share your husband's time and attention? Remember that your husband is a human being, a man, a creation of the Creator. As important as he is to you, you should be worshiping Allah alone. By being so consumed by this, you're giving your husband and this issue a greater status and power than only Allah should occupy in your mind and your life.

I think that a little bit more faith will solve your problem, but if you are still worried after more time has passed, feel free to write again and we will sort this out 🙂

    Hugs,

    Nor

  4. You can just divorce if he marries someone else. You don't have to stay in that marriage. It's not like he'll marry someone and then you'd have to stay in that marriage. So there's no way you'd end up in a situation of polygamy unless you choose to be in it.
